We have a plain, flat black wooden headboard that we have had for 11 years. Most of the time it is fine but occasionally there is a faint musty odor coming from it. It has never been wet, we keep it clean, and would like to keep it. Is there a non glossy, clear coat we can apply (no VOCs) which will help seal the wood and eliminate the occasional odor? I want to order the Rubio Oil Plus 2 part and I found this link: http://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/All-Products/Paints-Coatings-Wood-Stains-Sealers/Rubio-Oil-Plus-2C-Part-A. I am not clear if I order this product if it comes with Part B or 2 or do I need to order that separately. Please advise. View answer

Hi, can I use Rubio Monocoat, Oil Plus to stain old kitchen cabinets? View answer

I build custom recording studio furniture, mainly desks. I'm currently using solvent based stain and a pre cat lacquer spray for the finish. I'm looking for a new approach that can be applied faster, and doesn't require the loss of brain cells (even with a respirator I can smell the lacquer as I spray). Rubio Monocoat seems to be advertised for wood flooring, but would it be suitable for a daily use desk? View answer

We stained our wood-clad patio doors with the walnut-colored Rubio Monocoat, after testing the stain color on a piece of 1x4. The doors turned out much lighter than the swatch shown on your website and also much lighter than the test piece.
We would like to go darker on the color. However, with the doors being wood-clad (i.e.. thin veneered on the inside surface), we wouldn't be able to sand them down to re-stain them. What would you suggest we do? Can we layer another darker-colored Monocoat? Will the wood take on more color? If not, what are our options? We have pets at home so we have to use VOC free products. View answer

I have a raw wood countertop and I love the light wood color and do not want it to "yellow" when sealing it. If I get the 5% white stain, will this compensate for the "yellowing"? Also, when applying the stain, will it darken if you overlap when applying it? for example, when i applied one of your darker stains on another counter, one coat was perfect, but I had to do some touch-ups and everywhere i touched-up was extra dark from the stain overlapping. Is this the same with the lighter colors? View answer

Ref: Rubio Monocoat, Oil Plus 2C Interior Stain and Seal Kit. I would be using this on new plywood cabinetry inside my van. I plan to do all the sealing, staining, and curing of the wood pieces outside the van. My concern is spontaneous combustion of the cured oil-stained wood on a hot sunny 120 deg. F day when the interior surfaces baked by the sun can reach temperatures of over 180 deg. F. Will this be safe to use in this situation or should I only consider water-based sealers and stains? http://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/All-Products/Paints-Coatings-Wood-Stains-Sealers/Rubio-Oil-Plus-2C-Kit
There are two components of this product. Can mixed final product be stored and then used at a later time? If not, are instructions for the proportions of each components included with the product, so one can mix as much as he needs as he goes?
Lastly, if one decides to seal the surface after using this stain, which odor-free product would you recommend?
