I would like to order a shoe rack that is described as "Iron frame with satin pewter". This seems vague and it is from china. To be on the safe side, I would like to paint it with something to seal in any off gassing that may occur. Would this product be appropriate for that? I have always thought all these wire storage racks that you get from places like Home Depot are not likely to be toxic and I have many of those, not sure how true that is, but this shoe rack looks to be more of painted finish than the typical wire racks and has 'metal mesh' for shelves. I'm planning on painting some plywood and particle board but am interested in lowering VOC emissions. Do you recommend using AFM SafeCoat Primer and then Zero VOC paint? Or does it need to be sealed first with one of the AFM sealers and then primed and painted? View answer

My husband and I recently nailed a grid of wood two-by-fours on our bedroom wall (pine, unfinished, plenty of knotholes). I was going to paint the wall with the grids of wood nailed to it a dark color, however a professional painter told me I need to prime the boards with an oil based primer so that the knotholes don't keep bleeding through.Do you have a Safecoat that the painters can use over the white oil-based primer that can later be painted with latex paint? I want to seal in some of the oil primer's VOCs because I am six months pregnant. Then, I wanted to paint the wall a color of my choice. What would you recommend? I don't want knotholes bleeding through, but I am very concerned about the fumes. View answer
