I put first coat of this primer on top of old red paint in small bathroom and aired out room with fan on for 2 days and there is still an odor it's actually stronger this morning! it's been 3 days! Why is there an odor that will not go away? What should I do now? I bought this primer so I don't have to worry about odor or voc !! View answer

Dry chemistry components do not breakdown completely. Following Instructions Mixed components in 65 degree shop after having set for several days in 60 degree plus space. Added liquid together with exterior gloss acrylic paint. Stirred liquids for several minutes. Added dry components gradually while mixing, continued mixing. Mixed for 10 minutes and found the mix grainy as though there was sand in mix. Let mix set for 20 minutes and remixed, I mixed with drill driven mixer for 15 minutes more. Still grainy. Applied to deck and rails. Result was rough sandpaper finish. Disappointed. Rails too rough to rest bare arms on and deck too rough for kids to want to run and play on. I've used three kits and results all the same. What's wrong? View answer

I have a Hot Dipped Galvanized Metal dog kennel, can I apply two AFM Safecoat products to, a base coat of AFM SafeCoat, MetalCoat Metal Primer (as a base-layer) with 2 top-coats of AFM SafeCoat, All Purpose Exterior Satin, Custom Color Paint? I know AFM SafeCoat Transitional Primer works with the All Purpose Exterior Satin, though I wonder if MetalCoat is better for this? The kennels going to be revamped as a catio & kept outside throughout the seasons; with a very free-draining mixed-aggregate/Geocell ground grid & stone-flagger topped patio with a Corten steel border to serve as base pedestal. Would this be the combo I need to ensure that the kennel can have extra layers of materials life and will resist the elements year round? View answer

I lost my home in the N. California Valley wildfire, 7 months ago. I purchased a new home and I can't be on the deck during the day, because heat from the sun reactivates the oil-based stain on the deck, making me ill. I've chemical allergies, especially to oil-based stains (triggering Asthma). I've stripped some of the oil off (using citrus-based natural stripper - SafeStrip) and need to cover the deck with a barrier to reduce outgassing of the oil-based stain residuals, protect the wood, not outgas after it cures. Would Deck Revive and PermaBond create a barrier to block the residual oils from reactivating when heated by the high noon sun? Do you have any suggestion on ways of stripping oil-based stain not using toxic chemicals? View answer

What AFM Safecoat zero VOC paint sheen do you recommend for older real-wood worn cabinets in a bathroom where there is routine moisture from everyday showers and using the sink? I purchased semi-gloss AFM for the walls. Also, what AFM color might you recommend for these same old, worn real-wood originally stained walnut/mahogany type cabinets. I'm thinking of selecting the AFM SafeCoat zero VOC paint because I don't want to use a stain, even an AFM stain, I know the stain has more odor than the zero VOC paints. We are chemically sensitive. Would I do better with a color that is closest to the current old walnut/mahogany-type stain that is on there now, so the zero VOC AFM would blend more easily and cover over the current worn-out stain? In our manufactured home we had to remove carpet due to pets. I then painted our stained subfloors. In painting our master & spare bedroom floors, I put primer down on both subfloors and ALSO painted walls, baseboards and floors. I have both rooms sealed off as best as I can because of strong smell. During/after painting, the smell got so bad, it gave me an instant headache (I wore a respirator for vapors, which made sickness even worse). Can I paint over these toxic VOC paints? It sounds like I can seal in the strong odors. I would like to order your paint swatches quickly so that I can decide on a color. Could you please let me know which color swatches can be used on floor paint? I am assuming the AFM Safecoat swatches/paint for floors. View answer
