I have recently stripped some wallpaper and am now left with drywall that has some glue and quite a few little places where th drywall paper covering has pulled away. My understanding is that the conventional process to deal with this is to apply an oil based sales, then skim coat, then sand, then prime and paint. I am looking for something less toxic for the first two steps of this process(oil based sealer and skim coat with joint compound). Would this project work in lieu of the oil based sealer? If so, would it be ok to do a skim coat over it? View answer

I have an old deck with mildew etc. I am planning on sanding the deck then cleaning then applying GSDR. I would like a cedar or dark red color. Can I paint over GSDR? Will it fill cracks and if not what product would you recommend either before or after applying GSDR? Would you recommend a primer after cleaning from sanding before applying GDSR? Thanks View answer

There is wallpaper in the home I am purchasing. I would prefer not to remove it because of lead paint concerns. I was told that in order to paint directly over the wallpaper, it needed to be sealed with an oil-based primer first, so it doesn't loosen. Will AFM Safecoat Primer work for this, or do I need another type of product? If so, what would be recommended (I want something No-VOC)? Thanks for your help. View answer

We are planning to paint out old farmhouse in the spring. We will be painting over aluminum siding that was installed in the late 70s. it's been painted several times over the years, but it is chalky and fading. What do we need to do to prep the aluminum, and then what products would we use to prime and paint (and how many coats of each would you recommend for aluminum)? View answer

I have a cinder block foundation with a cement based parging that had a color added to make it black. The color turned out to be a darker grey. I believe it was a powder that was added to the parging mix. Can we use the Silacote to get the black color we originally were looking to achieve? Also, if the Silacote is suitable, which type would be recommended, smooth or textured? View answer

Hi! I am searching for a non toxic paint to apply for a decorative graphic motif on 100 yo ceramic hearth tiles that get no foot traffic. Might you have any recommendations for which of your products to use? I was considering the clay paint. Thanks so much for your expertise and feedback! View answer

Hello! I live in FL (think HOT and HUMID). We are ripping up the old outdoor carpet on our lanai and are wondering what to do with the bare concrete to protect and seal it. It does get a little wet occasionally from heavy rains on one side of the porch, but overall it is a covered area. What products should I use to best stain or paint and seal it? And can we get away with just the concrete stain or paint? or do we need to seal also? Thank you! View answer

I have oil based paint on my cabinets and woodwork in my home. House was painted 16 years ago when I purchased it. It is now needing to be painted but I am allergic to toxic oil based paint. I have been told my cabinets should be sanded and a primer applied before painting a water based latex paint. I'm told primers That are used for this have a terrible odor when applied and I need to avoid anything with strong odors and toxic chemicals. Do you have a primer that would take care of this issue...? .thank you..Liz .. View answer

We have a small shower with tiled walls that go 3/4 of the way up but the shower ceiling and very top of the wall is painted and constantly mildews. There is no direct water spraying on the painted part, but it obviously gets very humid. Would this paint work in such an area? View answer

I want to paint some foil faced insulation. It was recommended that I use a water based self etching primer. I can't find one that is water based and all are very toxic. This is for my son to live in so I don't want toxic. Will this work on the metal foil thats on insulation? If so, can I cover it with regular interior paint? Thanks View answer
