I purchased three 4 slot mail/paper organizers from Amazon. The seller says they are made of: "100% Natural Bamboo, Made of superior phyllostachys heterocycla (a kind of bamboo), real material, Not synthetic wood ;renewable and eco-conscious resources." They have an unpleasant smell. I can't tell if they shipped with a stain or sealer (natural looking) so don't know if the smell is from a coating or the material itself.
