Wood Stains & Sealers Q&A

Would this be safe to use to seal a cabinet that will hold dishes for food use (I want to seal the entire inside and outside of a cabinet that will hold plates and cups). Would it be safe to eat off of those dishes if they were kept in a cabinet sealed with this, or is there a more food-safe product we can use? Looking for a matte finish! Also, not sure if this cabinet has a small amount of a water- or oil-based varnish on it already. Which products that would be safe to put food dishes on top of should we order samples of? We'd like to encapsulate potential harmful chemicals on the furniture, while being able to safely store the dishes and wipe down the shelves with non-toxic cleaner, as able. Any recommendations? Thank you! :) View answer

Would this, or any other product, work to seal in VOCs in a vehicle that has a "new car smell"? Someone took my car to get detailed and the seats stained as a gift, and it smells extremely strongly of harmful chemicals. Would using a sealer product on the seats/dash/console help, or is that not advised? View answer

Hi! I'm looking to seal some pet-smelly particle board "subfloors" from the 80s. The particle board is pretty long-term smelly, so we wanna make sure whatever we do to seal them works thoroughly. We did BINZ shellac on the subfloor in 2 rooms and it worked great. I'm not looking forward to doing more shellac, but I'll do it if it is what will work best. Would you say this safeseal product could be used *in place of* the shellac on top of the particle board or would safeseal be something to put on top of the shellac? Thanks! View answer

I use 1.5" rigid (styrofoam) foam insulation boards in the window wells of our passive solar home to keep the sun out in the summer. However the styrofoam sheds and makes a mess on the floor. I'm looking for something to seal the boards so that they will not shed. Will the SafeCoat Safe Seal product be the best choice. I do not want something that will remain sticky as I take them on and off periodically. Please advise? View answer

I applied Bioshield Primer #5 then Bioshield Hardwax (#11 I think) to my floor 12 years ago. I have cleaned the floor since , but never reapplied any oil or wax products since. The whole floor still look great even after all these years, except for some high traffic areas. How do I treat those areas? Do I need to refinish the entire floor? View answer

Can I use any of the Safe Seal products to coat the inside of an RV before refinishing it? We would want to coat almost everything--floor, walls, and cupboards. Will it adhere to the finish on cupboards, and is it then paintable? Which product should we use? I think we would want it to be matte. Thanks! View answer

I am wanting to use this on cement trays that I've created. These trays will be used inside the home and will likely hold an array of items. Do you recommend this product as a cement sealer? I primarily want it to create a clear barrier to avoid staining. It would be nice if it's fire resistant but not a huge requirement. View answer

Would this be the appropriate product to apply to a piece of furniture that I have that is made of particle board but has a veneer or laminate covering? I am trying to protect it from any possible water that could come in contact with it as a precaution .. example cup water rings! Thank you! View answer

Hi, I have an rv with a fiberglass shell, one piece, that I'm remodeling due to interior water damage. I have stripped it entirely, repaired the leaks around the window and door and now want to waterproof seal the interior fiberglass shell before insulating and putting the walls back on. What product would you suggest for priming and sealing? Do you also have a foam insulation you would recommend? View answer

I have a 40 year old teak dining room table. After wiping it down there are areas that are lighter than others from rubbing too hard. can I apply this Koloranti teak oil to blend the light and darker areas to make them less noticeable without stripping the wood down first. I am not looking for perfection just an improvement? Thank you View answer

We are building out our sprinter van ???? and have a raw wood countertop in it. What is the best product to seal/protect the countertop (solid wood not butcher block)? We do not plan to cut directly on it but the sink is built into it and it will get wet. I was told that linseed will not protect it from water damage and mildew, is this true? Would polyurethane be a better choice? View answer
