Hello- I am finishing a couple walls with Durastain Pro (Iron Wood) Stain. I have a leftover gallon of SafeCoat Hardseal in Gloss that I want to use as the initial coat over the stain and then add a top coat of Acrylacq in Satin or Gloss. I am building a small kit home on Helical piles in MO. There will be 2 inch pine tongue and groove flooring directly over the joists with no vapour barrier or insulation. The joists and skids are rough sawn hemlock. Would the Vermont Natural Coatings, Exterior, Penetrating Water Proofer be a good product to coat the underside of the 2" flooring, the joists, and the skids with? The skids will only contact the brackets of the helical piles and not come in contact with the ground at all. There should be air flow and limited if any sun exposure. I am concerned with preventing moisture buildup, mold, etc.... and not having to reapply a product later on because that would be extremely difficult to access. View answer

I have old engineered 3 ply tongue and groove floor tiles from the 1960's and recently had bug bombs set off in the house which of course left the residue on the floor soo I had it cleaned with Castile soap and water but the guys doing the cleaning in the living room used a little too much soap and water in the living room so not much finish left there. I will be moving into the house in a couple of weeks or less . Can I wait a day between applying the first and second coat of Deck Revive? I live in a warm climate and have likely missed the window of opportunity for handling all the steps in a single day (permabond, quickcrete, two coats of deck revive). I will have about three hours in the morning that i can work before the deck is above 85 degrees. I think I can get the primer and first coat on, but would need to wait until evening or the next day to apply the second coat. Will this work? View answer

Ref: Rubio Monocoat, Oil Plus 2C Interior Stain and Seal Kit. I would be using this on new plywood cabinetry inside my van. I plan to do all the sealing, staining, and curing of the wood pieces outside the van. My concern is spontaneous combustion of the cured oil-stained wood on a hot sunny 120 deg. F day when the interior surfaces baked by the sun can reach temperatures of over 180 deg. F. Will this be safe to use in this situation or should I only consider water-based sealers and stains? We stained our wood-clad patio doors with the walnut-colored Rubio Monocoat, after testing the stain color on a piece of 1x4. The doors turned out much lighter than the swatch shown on your website and also much lighter than the test piece.<BR>We would like to go darker on the color. However, with the doors being wood-clad (i.e.. thin veneered on the inside surface), we wouldn't be able to sand them down to re-stain them. What would you suggest we do? Can we layer another darker-colored Monocoat? Will the wood take on more color? If not, what are our options? We have pets at home so we have to use VOC free products. View answer

I need to stain joists that I will be using to rebuild part of my deck. The boards are pressure-treated 6X10s that have been cut into four-foot lengths. All the info I can find online about preparing lumber so that stain will adhere to it recommends toxic products. Everything I read says that if you don't prepare the boards the stain won't adhere. That is a particular problem since I live at 9,000 feet in Colorado where we have bitter, snowy winters. Is there something you have that I can use to prepare pressure-treated boards for staining that does not contain toxic chemicals? View answer
