Wood Stains & Sealers Q&A
Activity timeframe
I am ordering Rubio Monocoat for my hardwood floors. I have a few questions. I am interested in purchasing the raw wood cleaner and the natural soap that is recommended in the application instructions. I don't think they are available on your site. Do you have alternate products that you recommend? Also, are the application and buffer pads that you show the regular nylon pads that would come with the floor buffer that I would rent? Lastly, I'm mixing two colors 1/2 and 1/2. If I store the extra - will it sit ok with the colors mixed together, or should I only mix them in each batch as I go, the way I'd mix in the step 2 oil. I know. This is an art project and I'm on my own. But, I thought I'd just ask in case. Thank you so much. View answer

Hello, used 2 coats on teak and mahogany bench swing...love the product, the way it goes on, no awful smell all great. Question: I noticed after several weeks the wood grain was raised considerably and felt dry. We tested with water and it does bead up. Is it typical for the grain to raise after application? We like how our exterior door looks with a simple coat of linseed oil but want to protect it further. Can a clear Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Exterior Wood Protector be applied on top of wood previously treated with linseed oil? Is there a time period to wait since the linseed oil was first applied or would this product not be compatible with linseed oil? Thanks in advance! View answer

We have an oak cabinet (veneer shelves and sides, solid doors and trim) that was built about 30 years ago by a local carpenter. We love it but it has had a "doggie doo" smell inside ever since we got it when it was new. It still does! It looks totally normal, but when you open the doors, there it is. Humidity seems to make it worse. We do not know what kind of finish it has, but it is not bare wood. Do you have any suggestions on how we could mitigate this problem? It was less an issue when we lived in Arizona, but here in Indiana it has gotten worse. View answer

We have a White Oak outdoor dining table that we just finished and are struggling with how to finish it. The person who built it suggested polyurethane for spar varnish. Our concerns are weather durability for hot sun and rain, food and drink spills, And we prefer a flat finish if possible. We live in California or the sun is hot! And we don't want to stress about water rings on the table Would this be a good alternative to the options above? View answer

How easy is this to use on pine? It states above : "NOTE 2: Soft woods like pine are very porous and often appear splotchy unless sanded and treated properly by professionals." So if I sand it, would it still be blotchy because a professional has an extra step that they would do? View answer
