We have polished mud floors that were treated initially with several coats of linseed oil, left to dry for quite a while and then waxed with Bioshield #32 and buffed. That was a couple years ago and was appears as if it needs to be reapplied. Our question is whether we should apply any oil, either Bioshield Hard Oil #9 or another oil first before reapplying the Bioshield #32? Or is there something else we should do before reapplying and buffing with the Bioshield wax #32? View answer

I have brand new oak butcher block style countertops from IKEA. We wanted to keep them as natural as possible and so we put 3 layers of mineral oil, and a 2 layers of a mineral oil/beeswax finish. As soon as a moist dishtowel rested on the countertop, the grain swelled up and was rough. We need to put something else on that's more durable after all. Will this Naturals Oil Wax Finish be ok to apply on top of these other natural oils/wax? Sure seems like there's plenty more penetration capacity based on how NON-water resistant the counters seem to be still. Oh and our sink is set into the countertop (lots of potential water exposure) and cooking will take place on them, but no chopping directly on them. View answer

What is the material used for the bottom of IKEA dresser drawers? It is almost paperlike with a very spongy porous bottom. Will this work for that? They lined the top with white liner. I put safeseal on the bottom sides and it absorbed it right up. Now it's a darker color. The dresser itself is pure pine so I didn't' think there would be smell. But there is a very sawdusty smell with the dresser in the room and it increases when opening the drawers so I suspect it is from the drawer bottoms. There is still smell. Will additional coats help? Or will it just ruin the papery material? View answer

I've been applying Acrylacq to the interior of some wood drawers. On my last few, I applied one coat and then ran out of the Acrylacq product. Can I simply resume applying once I order a new supply, or do I need to do anything to re-prep (e.g., sanding, etc) in order to get started again? The Acrylacq instructions say to apply new coats in 4-8 hours, so I'm wondering if waiting longer causes any issues? View answer

Hi! I have gunstock oak in my new home. Sadly, its stained different colors in different rooms. It has a natural golden finish in one room and a ore finished reddish stain in another. I want to have all of it sanded and stained a dark chocolate brown. I like brown that has more pink or chocolate undertones. I do not like grey browns or green browns. What would you suggest? I am hoping to find a cleaner that can be bought locally or made/ mixed by hand (like a vinegar/castille solution). Is there anything that could be purchased at a big box store or Ace Hardware that could be used on these floors? Thank you! Just wanting to reduce environmental impact! View answer
