SAMPLE - AFM SafeCoat, Polyureseal BP, Matte Q&A
Activity timeframe
I just bought a piece of furniture that smells like it has recently been spray painted. I want to coat it with something good-safe so that it not only seals in the VOCs but also maintains durability as I plan to use it in my dining room. What product would you recommend for painted wood? View answer

I have particle board kitchen cabinets in a place built over 30 years ago. Only surfaces visible when the cabinets are closed have a laminate veneer. The insides and presumably the bottoms and and backs are uncoated particle board. I want to seal the surfaces I can reach - the insides. I have a full leftover container of AFM Hard Seal from another project. I noticed Polyureseal BP did best at blocking formaldehyde in the tests on your website. Would you recommend Hard Seal, Acrylacq, or Polyureseal BP? View answer

My carpenters applied an oil based stain to my oak stair treads. Big mistake. It smells horrible. I did not apply oil based polyurethane yet because I realize that will smell even more! And water based polyurethanes don't work over oil based stains! Is there any healthier product I can cover my oil stained stair treads with? So far every product I see says do not apply over oil based stains. Is there any "low odor" oil based polyurethane product I can use? Or do I need to sand off the old oil stain and start again?? Hi, I'm wondering if this product could be used to protect from off-gassing from a linoleum floor? The finish has worn off due to faulty cleaning, and is now off-gassing. we'd prefer to not change the floor entirely. Would this or another product help seal the off-gassing, and could it be used on organic materials such as linoleum? (don't want to risk microbial growth). Thanks a lot! View answer

Will this AFM SafeCoat Polyureseal BP *prevent yellowing* if applied to new, sanded Hoop Pine Plywood (similar to Baltic Birch Plywood) over time? I want to preserve the light, natural color of the wood, so prefer not to use any stain. And will it be successful in repelling moisture, or is there another product to finish/seal with? I plan to install the plywood on the walls and ceiling of my tiny house. View answer

I painted my laminate formica countertops with a paint kit. it's holding up well, but the glossy finish is showing wear and scuffs. I'd like to take it to a matte or satin finish, but the paint kit company only offers gloss. If I sand with a fine grit and dull the surface, can I use this to reseal? How durable is it? View answer

Looking at buying a home with knotty pine paneling, flooring, and cabinets. The previous owner smoked and the smell is lingering throughout the home. We suspect they were stained with an oil based product, along with an oil based polyurethane finish. Is there anything we can do to encapsulate the smell? View answer

We used Mixwax Fast-Drying Polyurethane Satin on raw cherry hardwood flooring in one room. We've done 3 layers already. The off-gassing has been horrible! We plan to use another product in the remaining rooms. Would you recommend using this product. AFM SafeCoat, Polyureseal BP, as a 4th layer to seal it in order to prevent more off-gassing? Would 1 layer be enough? View answer

Hello, I am interested in this product. Like many people here, I've recently refinished some rooms in my house with an oil based poly and the smell still isn't gone. I'd like to finish the rest with this product, but I'm worried about it not matching the rest of the floors. I have 100- year-old red oak that's being sanded and refinished. Will this finish give the floors a similar look in terms of color, to a classic poly finish? Thank you! View answer

Since this is a low VOC product and not VOC free, doesn't it also emit at least low levels of VOCs into the air and if so, is there a timeline for it to stop? I would like to use this product over a "low VOC" finish on the interior of a buffet cabinet that is still off-gassing (the exterior is not), even after sitting in an open-air screened in porch for 8 months. it's lacquer finish is supposedly a low VOC product.
