Cork Flooring Q&A

How resistant is this new generation cork floor to fading from sunlight? Our current cork tile installation faded badly around area rugs after a few years of partial daily sun exposure through south and west windows resulting in a bleached-out appearance compared to the much darker covered areas. Thanks. View answer

We are planning on putting this in a bathroom as well. On their install-info on the website, it states " However, in order to prevent the water to penetrate under the installed floor (which can create conditions for growing of fungus, mold or smell), a polyurethane sealant must be applied on expansion joints. Do you have anything for that? Also, when they joints I assume it means where the boards connect to each other? I am sure normal caulking around the tub etc is standard. View answer

I'm interested in installing Amorim WISE on a second-floor condo. The subfloor is gypcrete. How does the sound insulation of this product (7mm of cork) compare with other cork floating floors (like Wicander) that have less cork but are thicker (10-12mm) due to the thickness of the foam board? Do the wood-look cork floors require a specific backing on entry mats and kitchen mats? I understand there's an issue with rubber or latex backed mats on cork, but since the top layer of the wood-look flooring is a different material, what kind of mat or rug can be used? View answer

Would there be any issues with installing in an unheated sunroom (with concrete subfloor)? My sunroom is not climate controlled (heated or cooled) and I would like to install cork flooring in it. I don't believe the temperature will wildly fluctuate in a short period of time and the room is fairly insulated. But I am in New York State and it does get cold outside. I've read good things about this product and would like to give it a try but don't want to have it fail on me for using it in the wrong application. Thank you! View answer

Can you explain what all the "Non PVC" Components are. On Amorim Wise website for Wood look materials, from the bottom to top there are 5 Layers: 1:"Integrated Cork Underlay" 2. "Non PVC Cork Rigid Core" 3. "Cork Inlay" 4. Non PVC Wood Printed Film". "SRT Non PVC Protective Wear Layer"What is the difference Between HRT and SRT wear layers? What is this layer, Aluminum Oxide, Acrylic Polyurethane, or a wax such as Carnauba Wax, or other? What is the non PVC textured wood printed film actually made of?How are the subsequent three layers (cork inlay, rigid cork core, and cork underlay manufactured? Do any of them contain any resins or binders. If so what are they? Thanks,Nicholas M Schedeler View answer

Hi! I read about the presence of 1-methyl 2-pyrrolidinone in the greenguard certification sheet which may cause reproductive harm. Is it present in the PET stain/finish in the wood cork flooring? Also, what are the ingredients of SRT finish? We will be installing cork floor by removing the old carpets. Do we need an underlayment? View answer

Is the Cork Look Identity Grafite considered a "warm" or "cool" color? I have the sample box and still can't tell for sure. It seems to be both: with a grey-brown and then a warm beige in the little "holes". Maybe that makes it a "neutral" color? How would any of you rate that color: warm, cool, or neutral? View answer

I want in my bathroom but am hesitant due to the chance of water seeping into seems and getting moldy or warping the material, esp since it is a layered veneer. (I am also concerned about pipes bursting now that I just survived this TX ice storm and am afraid the cork would be ruined whereas my current tile os holding up well). Will you please speak to this? The installation guide recommends a glue-down installation in high-moisture situations and areas that get direct sunlight. I'm hoping to install this in a kitchen with a skylight, however there's already a glue down cork floor in the room (solid, fairly level, but surface is beyond repair). Can I install this cork floor as a glue-down on top of the existing cork floor? Or is it ok to float? If yes to gluing, what adhesive is best? Thanks! View answer
