Cork Flooring Q&A

(Not really a question?) Sample boxes vs colors seen on computer: I have heard on this site and many others that the colors do not match the Website. This is usually used as a criticism. The color discrepancy comes from the settings on your computer and the Website. Those two will never match. Every computer is different when it comes to color. Also, you are dealing with light on your computer. It will always make colors and other items look different than in real life. THIS is why it is SO important to get the the boxes of samples; so you can see what the product REALLY looks like. Three cheers for GBS for providing the SAMPLES in a box. View answer

I have a sample of the Wicanders cork flooring, and I can easily put scratches in it with my fingernail. Is the Amorim waterproof cork surface more resistant to scratching (thinking pet toenails), and if is scratched through the finish wouldn't that then allow water infiltration? View answer

Is this flooring truly non-toxic? I will be installing it in a baby's room and he will be crawling in it. It says there's no ADDED lead, so does that mean there is lead in the flooring? I've also read that nano-coatings like that used in this product can abrade or otherwise leach from the surface and the particles can cause health problems. Is that a concern with this flooring? Thanks. View answer

Should I not use a vapor barrier on pre existing hardwood floor? The installation instructions state "Existing wood planks, engineered wood boards, OSB panels, drywall elements etc. must not be covered with PE foil acting as a vapour barrier. The area below the floor should also be sufficiently ventilated in an adequate way (back-vented skirting board) to maintain the equilibrium moisture content of the wood planks, engineered wood boards, OSB panels, drywall elements.". Does this mean that I shouldn't use the 6mil underlayment? View answer

I'm interested in installing Amorim WISE on a second-floor condo. The subfloor is gypcrete. How does the sound insulation of this product (7mm of cork) compare with other cork floating floors (like Wicander) that have less cork but are thicker (10-12mm) due to the thickness of the foam board?
