Hardwood Floor Finishes Q&A

We stained our wood-clad patio doors with the walnut-colored Rubio Monocoat, after testing the stain color on a piece of 1x4. The doors turned out much lighter than the swatch shown on your website and also much lighter than the test piece.
We would like to go darker on the color. However, with the doors being wood-clad (i.e.. thin veneered on the inside surface), we wouldn't be able to sand them down to re-stain them. What would you suggest we do? Can we layer another darker-colored Monocoat? Will the wood take on more color? If not, what are our options? We have pets at home so we have to use VOC free products. View answer

I have a raw wood countertop and I love the light wood color and do not want it to "yellow" when sealing it. If I get the 5% white stain, will this compensate for the "yellowing"? Also, when applying the stain, will it darken if you overlap when applying it? for example, when i applied one of your darker stains on another counter, one coat was perfect, but I had to do some touch-ups and everywhere i touched-up was extra dark from the stain overlapping. Is this the same with the lighter colors? View answer

Ref: Rubio Monocoat, Oil Plus 2C Interior Stain and Seal Kit. I would be using this on new plywood cabinetry inside my van. I plan to do all the sealing, staining, and curing of the wood pieces outside the van. My concern is spontaneous combustion of the cured oil-stained wood on a hot sunny 120 deg. F day when the interior surfaces baked by the sun can reach temperatures of over 180 deg. F. Will this be safe to use in this situation or should I only consider water-based sealers and stains? http://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/All-Products/Paints-Coatings-Wood-Stains-Sealers/Rubio-Oil-Plus-2C-Kit
There are two components of this product. Can mixed final product be stored and then used at a later time? If not, are instructions for the proportions of each components included with the product, so one can mix as much as he needs as he goes?
Lastly, if one decides to seal the surface after using this stain, which odor-free product would you recommend? I have old engineered 3 ply tongue and groove floor tiles from the 1960s and recently had bug bombs set off in the house which of course left the residue on the floor soo I had it cleaned with Castile soap and water but the guys doing the cleaning in the living room used a little too much soap and water in the living room so not much finish left there. I will be moving into the house in a couple of weeks or less . Of main concern to me is that I have 3 cats and I want a hard wax oil that is not toxic at all for my cats as I am 65 years old and they are all I have left that I love. What do you recommend with all things considered to seal about 450 square ft ?Thank you View answer

Im considering applying this to 2x6 pine t&g flooring. Its for a new build. I'm hoping to coat all sides with 1 coat, install, and then protect with floor protection (cardboard builders board) to help mitigate any potential damage during the rest of the construction. After all construction is finished I would sand the floor and reapply oil/wax. Does this seem like an appropriate approach? If so, how long would you say I need to wait between applying the first coat prior to install and covering with builder board (to avoid any issues with curing under builder board). Thanks for your help! View answer

I am wanting to use your Rubio Monocoat, Oil Plus 2C, Interior Stain Kit on my HEMLOCK flooring. I would love to finish to look like the current sanded raw wood. We sampled the PURE (clear) and it added a sheen and a slight amber. Do you have a color you would suggest it I want the wood to appear 'untreated'? I know it needs some sheen as a matte finish shows everything.Thank you View answer

I was hoping to use this on patio furniture, but I see that it is interior only. The furniture is under a deck and will not be directly rained on, but will be exposed to extreme humidity (I live in Mississippi) and the occasional rain blowing in. Will this product work or is there another that is recommended? View answer

Thinking of using Rubio Monocoat on raw ponderosa pine. I need to stain to match Knotty Alder doors that I finished with the penetrating oil with wax. Turned out beautiful but darker than expected. Does the pine need to be pre conditioned to control the grain and which color would best match? View answer

I am planning on making an epoxy river table. I have heard a lot of good things about the Monocoat Oil + 2C Kit. How well would this work for sealing a dining table, against the normal wear and tear one might see there, like heat, water, and food spills? Would I need to re-apply on a schedule? Is it safe?
