We had two new energy efficient furnaces both installed with IQAIR filters. The technicians used High VOC sealants and glues. it's been 5 weeks and it's still strong and offensive. Can I use one of your VOC blocking sealants on PVC pipes and glue beads? Which product would you recommend? View answer

Hi. On the first floor of my house, my plywood subfloor smells like basement (the basement is located underneath it). Before I install cork floor, is there any odor sealant I can use on the plywood subfloor? Can I use "AFM Safecoat" or "Caliwel Industrial Mold and Mildew Inhibitor"? Which one would you recommend in my case? Thank you. View answer

We had a leak and mold in the walls in the bathroom/bedroom and it was professionally remediated but I still smell the mold and am affected by it. Before fixing the walls, I was going to just paint the studs with this but just saw in Q&A to use a primer first. I was thinking it would be better if the Caliwell touched the wood to kill any spores/mold deep in it left behind and maybe coat it twice. Is this good or will the primer followed by this work best? We have a crawl space that smells musty, but see no mold. It is very dry, and also has a crawl space dehumidifier. The floor/walls are sealed with plastic and insulation. But the musty smell is still there, and has permeated the room above. Would this help with that odor, if I treated the floor joists with it? Or should I also treat the foundation under the insulation? Last summer I sprayed it all with bac-a-zap but that didn't seem to do anything. View answer

I am going to use this in a basement. The subfloor/ceiling is rough sawn cedar and sanding would be labor intensive, we are not able to do that and would just rather paint over them as is. There are stains from mold that was treated with concrobium, and we want to use either the coating or primer over it. We will likely use a bright white paint over the first coat but are undecided about that at this point. What would you recommend we use? The contractors we had out to look were going to use a toxic encapsulation coating after mold removal and we want to be sure the mold is not just sandwiched, but gone. View answer

Could you use this on a basement floor that is often subjected to water leaks and has mold on it and grease? Or would th safecoat concrete floor paint be better? Also is it ok to use your degreaser to clean the basement floor and then follow with paint? We have a septic system and I read that the degreaser could destabilize the septic system. View answer

Is caliwel compatible with closed cell foam insulation? We plan to apply caliwell to rafters of a cathedral ceiling and then apply closed cell foam insulation on top of it. Want to make sure Caliwel does not cause issue with closed cell foam adhesion or some sort of chemical reaction. Testing a small area is not an option as the installer will be doing the foam in one large application. View answer

We have a small shower with tiled walls that go 3/4 of the way up but the shower ceiling and very top of the wall is painted and constantly mildews. There is no direct water spraying on the painted part, but it obviously gets very humid. Would this paint work in such an area? View answer

I am doing a down to the studs remodel of a frame house in a humid environment, and plan to paint the entire frame structure with CIM&MI. Given the highly alkaline finished PH, what is the long term effect on all the fasteners it comes in contact with, such as nails. Also, what are the risks to tradesmen working on the structure after that, drilling holes, sawing, installing new framing, etc? View answer

Can Caliwel be painted over Penetrating Concrete Sealer? We have some moisture in our basement well room. The walls are concrete block and we get efflorescence and mold on them. I'd like to keep the mold at bay in there, would the concrete sealer be enough or would we also need Caliwel to prevent mold growth from humidity? (We live in Minnesota, quite humid in the summers and very dry in the winter.) We aren't planning to do anything extraordinary to manage the air moisture in there, there is a door that connects to our finished family room that allows some air to move through the well room . Perhaps the penetrating concrete sealer would be enough? View answer

Are there interactions between Caliwel and other substances or conditions that prevent it from curing or that cause it to break down? We used it on a basement floor and are experiencing burning/allergic symptoms, a strong smell from the product etc. We are wondering what product could be used to paint over and neutralize or seal it? AFM Safecoat information states "For raw wood surfaces, use AFM's Ecolacq Sandable Primer."OSB generally counts as "raw wood", so should the AFM Ecolacq Sandable Primer be used? More specifically, for stud framing, should the Ecolacq Sandable Primer be used before CaliWel? View answer
