Hi, I have a new home build for my daughter and I. We are both chemically sensitive. We bought ECOS primer for going over the sheetrock, wondering how many coats are suggested if the ECOS and also is AFM safe coat flat a good option for over thsf? And how many coats ?! Thanks View answer

In our manufactured home we had to remove carpet due to pets. I then painted our stained subfloors. In painting our master & spare bedroom floors, I put primer down on both subfloors and ALSO painted walls, baseboards and floors. I have both rooms sealed off as best as I can because of strong smell. During/after painting, the smell got so bad, it gave me an instant headache (I wore a respirator for vapors, which made sickness even worse). Can I paint over these toxic VOC paints? It sounds like I can seal in the strong odors. I would like to order your paint swatches quickly so that I can decide on a color. Could you please let me know which color swatches can be used on floor paint? I am assuming the AFM Safecoat swatches/paint for floors. View answer

What AFM Safecoat zero VOC paint sheen do you recommend for older real-wood worn cabinets in a bathroom where there is routine moisture from everyday showers and using the sink? I purchased semi-gloss AFM for the walls. Also, what AFM color might you recommend for these same old, worn real-wood originally stained walnut/mahogany type cabinets. I'm thinking of selecting the AFM SafeCoat zero VOC paint because I don't want to use a stain, even an AFM stain, I know the stain has more odor than the zero VOC paints. We are chemically sensitive. Would I do better with a color that is closest to the current old walnut/mahogany-type stain that is on there now, so the zero VOC AFM would blend more easily and cover over the current worn-out stain? I have chemical sensitivities, and am trying to cover up the slight fragrance from 2 year old paint in a 2 year old house that's still bothering me. It could also be the drywall or compound underneath the paint that's coming through. I originally wanted to go with Ecos paint, but the reviews say it doesn't block out odors. Will the Safecoat paint block any odors without the transitional primer underneath? I don't want to spend the extra money if i can help it. View answer

I have some bare drywall that appears to be outgassing in a new bedroom. I'm chemically sensitive and would like to try your SafeCoat transitional primer to seal the drywall, then paint over with your Safecoat zero VOC flat. Would this work? I tried primecoat HPV before but didn't like the smell. View answer

I'm trying to decide between ECOS and AFM paint. We are moving into a house and plan to paint all the walls. I don't know what they are currently painted with. What I want is just something completely non toxic. I plan to go white. Any recommendations one way or the other? View answer

We made the mistake of priming with an oil-based primer and are now concerned about off-gassing. Would it be recommended to re-prime with your transitional primer, then apply the topcoat? Or can we just cover the oil-based primer with multiple layers of your topcoat? Thanks! View answer

I have MCS and we are having no-VOC cabinets fabricated for our laundry room, which will be painted using AFM Safecoat. Should the PureBond plywood and solid wood be primed before painting with Safecoat? Would semi-gloss be best for laundry room cabinets? I have been buying safe products from Green Building Supply for years. I can't thank you enough for selling safe, no-VOC products. They are a real life-saver. Keep up the great work! View answer

I would like to use this to paint my old wooden bedroom furniture that has a finish on it. it's important that there are no paint smells coming off of it, as the headboard and night table are close to my head when sleeping. I don't want to sand it down. Can I just use the regular safecoat paint without sanding and using the primer? Does the primer have more of a smell than the regular paint? Primers usually have stronger smells. View answer
