I'm in the process of putting down Varathane Floor Finish (oil-based polyurethane). I have two coats on OSB (I'm using DriCore as basement flooring). Unfortunately, I was unaware of just how toxic polyurethane is and am concerned about the potential long duration of off-gassing. I'm looking for an encapsulating sealer to contain the VOCs and the off-gassing. Will the SafeCoat Soft or Hard Sealer work for this? View answer

I'm creating closet shelves with raw MDF boards. I'm concerned about formaldehyde off-gassing from the MDF. How to incorporate the odor-blocking sealants into my workflow? Apply AFM Safecoat Hard Seal (or is Safe Seal better here?) on the raw MDF, wait for sealer to dry, then apply primer and cabinet paint? I am removing old vinyl tile flooring from the 1980's that was glued down with a black adhesive that has an incredibly strong chemical odor. It doesn't contain asbestos, we had it tested. The subfloor is plywood. The smell is definitely coming from the adhesive because there is no smell at all until the flooring comes up. Can we apply the Hard Seal over the adhesive that's stuck to the subfloor to encapsulate the chemical off-gassing before installing the new wood floor? The last thing I want is for some horrible chemical reaction between this product and the adhesive. (Unfortunately we do have to remove the vinyl flooring rather than lay the new wood flooring over it because it's so uneven.) View answer

I believe the hard seal that I ordered from a different company that was closer to me. Let it freeze during shipping. I put it on wood items and it's cloudy and uneven. Does this mean that the product is no longer usable? I don't mind using it in a garage cabinet if it's still going to work to block off gassing and give a good seal over the cabinet.
