I'm creating closet shelves with raw MDF boards. I'm concerned about formaldehyde off-gassing from the MDF. How to incorporate the odor-blocking sealants into my workflow? Apply AFM Safecoat Hard Seal (or is Safe Seal better here?) on the raw MDF, wait for sealer to dry, then apply primer and cabinet paint? Or apply primer and cabinet paint first, then apply the AFM Hard Seal as the final layer? I need the final finish to be durable and ideally a semi-gloss texture. Thank you View answer

Hi! I have 3 cockatiels that I love dearly and they have their own room in my house. They are messy and I need to be able to clean the walls easily. I just painted with ECOS eggshell paint but I find that it's not as easily cleanable as I need it to be. What is an eco-friendly top coat that I can put over the ECOS eggshell paint that will clean up more easily and not harm my birds respiratory systems in the process? View answer

Hi. My contractor used Great Stuff Gap and Cracks spray foam to seal cracks throughout our under-construction home. Due to asthma, allergies, and general sensitivity to chemicals and smells, I had specifically requested no high VOC materials, poly-isocyanates, polyurethane, etc. -- all of which are in this product. They used the foam where the subfloor meets the wall, around plumbing penetrations, and around electrical boxes. Removing the spray foam is dangerous and maybe impossible. Can I seal the foam to prevent a lifetime of off-gassing? Would Hard Seal work for that purpose? Or is there some other approach? Thanks! View answer

I've built a flat file art cabinet that's has big drawers (20"x 40") out of sanded plywood. Wood came from Ecuador (smells awful) it's off gassing in the garage for 2 months and it still smells. Would you recommend SafeSeal or Hard Seal for the drawer bottoms or something else? All chemicals/smells need to be sealed as it will be in my bedroom.1. When coating is it best to do the tops of the drawers, let it cure for a day, then flip the drawers and do the bottoms, or can I do both in 1 day?2. SafeSeal and Hard Seal say don't use over oil based products. I primed/painted the cabinets with oil based paint, then painted over with fusions mineral waterbased paint, can I use Safe or HardSeal to seal in that color on the outside of the cabinet? My daughter just rented space for a golf cart business where the owners have covered all the walls in particle board. They did this just before she took possession. It is unpainted - raw. I was looking at how to paint it when I learned this product is toxic. I understand your products can cover surfaces and make them safer. I thought the best would be the Safecoat Hard Seal but it is a gloss finish and I don't see that it's available in any other finish. How could we paint the walls in a colored paint over a gloss finish? The other option was the Safecoat Safe Seal but can this be used on walls like the Hard Seal? If not, can you please tell me what would work. She is sensitive to chemicals and now has entered a year lease! Please help! View answer

I believe the hard seal that I ordered from a different company that was closer to me. Let it freeze during shipping. I put it on wood items and it's cloudy and uneven. Does this mean that the product is no longer usable? I don't mind using it in a garage cabinet if it's still going to work to block off gassing and give a good seal over the cabinet. Next time, I'll buy it from you and work out the longer wait time to receive it. View answer

Would this, or any other product, work to seal in VOCs in a vehicle that has a "new car smell"? Someone took my car to get detailed and the seats stained as a gift, and it smells extremely strongly of harmful chemicals. Would using a sealer product on the seats/dash/console help, or is that not advised? View answer

We used radon seal and are looking for a topcoat waterproof layer. We have also previously sealed cracks and old carpet tacking holes with a silicone based caulk. Will this product hold up to high traffic and constant pressure from carpet and will it adhere after using radon seal? View answer

Looking for a non toxic alternative to Kilz sealer for subfloor before new carpet install. Will this work? Subfloor had dog urine damage in spots, so it was sanded and bleached to resurface the subfloor before new carpet install. Installers recommended using Kilz before installation but I'm hoping for a safer product since I baby will be in the house. View answer

Hello,I used Klean Strip Green Adhesive Remover to remove floor adhesive from 8'x10' cement floor. I did my best to clean it up afterwards. Then I used DRYLOK Floor & Wall Masonry Waterproofer to seal the cement. After letting the small room air out for a few weeks using a large fan and fresh air, there is a strong odor that is bothersome and irritating to my eyes and nose. It seems to be the Klean Strip Green Adhesive Remover odor that is still off gassing after 6 weeks. Will AFM SafeCoat Hard Seal be the correct product to seal in this odor? Thanks,Kevin View answer

I have a solid wood birch desk, it is finished but the grommet holes are not. I have sample of soft seal and hard seal. I know soft seal is not recommended on solid wood, but hard seal is? Would it be ok to use hard seal to protect these grommet holes or would I need to get sample of polyureseal bp? Which smells more? View answer

I'm interested in sealing OSB subfloor (prevent/arrest off gassing), but the tackiness of SafeSeal will potentially/likely make installation of the Pergo click-lock flooring difficult. I'm looking at HardSeal and Polyureseal BP as other options. Any recommendations here? View answer
