Asking if others note a slight warm tone to Silver Birch color -- looking for something midway between a warm light brown and a cooler gray. Have been looking at gray for 20 years, ready for a change but don't really want to go too dark. Also is Silver Birch available now that it's after Mid July? View answer

I tried cleaning the mastic off of my concrete floor with 2 coats of Blue Bear but can't get it off. Would this be suitable as a primer to help paint adhere/last? Also, my paint is Safecoat brand. Are they compatible? And would I have to mix this primer with my Safecoat (so essentially would I need to buy more paint for the priming coat)? Thanks. View answer

I live in a house that has a cement basement and on the outside it looks like limestone. I want to paint the bottom 2 feet of my exterior house (looks like limestone) with a cherry brown to bring out the colors to the rest of the house. This will make it look really nice as the house has a faded touch to it. I kind of dread painting it with a paint brush so I'm looking for advice on what to use? View answer

Is AFM WaterShield the right product to apply to the walls in a bathroom to repel moisture? The previous owner of my home had a bathroom (with shower) built, with NO fan to deal with moisture in the air when the shower is running. When I use this shower I use a window fan to push the moist air out, but, lots of moisture collects on the walls/ceiling in the bathroom. No issues with mold/mildew. How can I make these walls more hydrophobic so when the shower is used, the condensation that collects doesn't stick so readily, allowing the walls to dry more quickly after being wiped down. I will get a bathroom fan installed eventually but I want to add a water repellent on the walls (applied on top of the wall paint). Any product suggestions? View answer

Currently have 20 yr old cork flooring in our home I want to replace to keep the sustainable nature the designers initially intended. Much of the floor has dramatically faded due to sunlight. Will sanding floor bring back the original color? We have floating cork planks in kitchen over radiant floor heating (buckled from water damage, have large floor gaps) and glue down cork squares in areas with baseboard heating. Your website seems to say the Waterproof CORK look floors need to be initially top coated then regularly resanded and varnished to make them waterproof while the wood look is maintenance free? If additional top coating is needed for the cork look why is the price different from regular cork flooring? Thoughts on Osmo Polyx-Oil? View answer

I've a project with several slabs of raw live-edge Saman Acacia wood installed as kitchen counters, vanity top, and as a breakfast nook. The project is in the midwest (high humidity area) and need to ensure the finish is waterproof (around the undermount sink and in a bathroom) and does not require frequent maintenance. While a poly coating would likely be the best waterproofing option, we don't want to cover our raw wood with a plastic-looking coat and prefer to be able to spot refinish. We've had Bioshield #9 recommended to us but I wanted to see if AFM penetrating oil or AFM oil wax would be a better option in terms of waterproofing and longevity for my Saman Acacia? View answer

My husband and I really appreciated advice from your experts. New project: our 1970s yellowish laminate countertops. On a very limited budget raising a large family. With each upgrade we want to pursue safer choices. We've read about concrete countertops on the EWG site as being safe with no off-gassing. Also read about concrete overlays of existing laminate countertops. We would really appreciate advice on how to affordably and safely upgrade approx 55sq feet of laminate countertop. Are concrete overlays safe? What overlay product is safest? What concrete sealer for food surfaces? Curious if linoleum countertops over the laminate would be a safe affordable choice. If so what product is safest and most affordable? Thank you, Emily Herron View answer

We just built a butcher block table out of an old piece of a bar top which has a strong paraffin odor. We have used mineral oil and a lavender essential oil to reduce the odor. It helped a little but not enough to enjoy the table in the house. Will this product keep that odor under wraps? View answer
