SAMPLE - AFM SafeCoat, Acrylacq, Matte Q&A

I see that to get the best natural wood look, I should use gloss for first coat and then the satin. I have your Safecoat Hardseal product in gloss. Would this be ok to use with the acrylaq? Do I even need the acrylaq or should I order the Safecoat Hardseal in satin? It's for a kitchen table. View answer

I bought an antique painted cabinet, painted green. I want to use it in the kitchen so I want to cover the paint with something. Is AFM SafeCoat Acrylacq a good choice? The description says "Raw wooden stained or previously painted cabinetry," Does that mean it can go on painted wood or wood that was painted and then had the paint removed??? Or is AFM SafeCoat, Polyureseal BP a better choice??? View answer

Hello! I am looking for a non-toxic top coat for a solid wood dining table (pine) that has been stained with ecopaints stain. We are looking for a matte top coat that has little to no shine and that will help protect the table top from food/stains and also make it easier to wipe down with a wet cloth. Can you advise which product you would recommend? View answer

We have a plain, flat black wooden headboard that we have had for 11 years. Most of the time it is fine but occasionally there is a faint musty odor coming from it. It has never been wet, we keep it clean, and would like to keep it. Is there a non glossy, clear coat we can apply (no VOCs) which will help seal the wood and eliminate the occasional odor? Im looking to seal art made up of many different types of materials (wood, paper, paint, metal, everything...) - I'm looking for it to be crystal clear and not have much in way of harmful chemicals. I realize this product isn't it since it looks like it's for mainly wood - any suggestions on an all purpose clear sealant that's also archival? Thanks in advance! View answer

Which glossy varnish can I use on a painted table? I used a previous eco varnish on it about 20 years ago on this table that had a been painted with artists oil paints and it has a thick rich golden gloss that I love but due to "dining room abuse" it has a few dings. I thought it was made with walnuts and it didn't smell or off gas. I wish I still had the can because I don't remember it's name but I did get it at a green building supplier View answer

I am making a kitchen table out of white oak. I have applied multiple coats of a water based urethane but am not satisfied it will protect against 3 grandkids. I used a water based urethane as I don't want any yellowing. Can I apply this product over what I have and will it give a good protection? View answer

I recently installed untreated pine on the ceiling in my bathroom. I am looking for a nontoxic seal that will protect the wood from water damage/molding etc. I don't intend to stain the wood. I only need to seal it. Is this an appropriate product for that? Thanks in advance. View answer

I am a cabinet maker and looking for a lacquer substitute that is more environmentally friendly. This seems like a good fit. Is there a line/brand of stains that work well with this product or will any non oil based stain work? Going non oil based drastically reduces selection in stain/finish products but it's a move I'm looking to make for my business. Also. Is this available in 5gal? View answer
