Hello, we're looking to have our floors redone. Our contractor said they add an additive to the grout to seal it in one shot. I believe they use miracle sealant. I want something more eco-friendly. Is this considered an additive that they could add to the grout or do you carry something like that? View answer

I am building a small kit home on Helical piles in MO. There will be 2 inch pine tongue and groove flooring directly over the joists with no vapour barrier or insulation. The joists and skids are rough sawn hemlock. Would the Vermont Natural Coatings, Exterior, Penetrating Water Proofer be a good product to coat the underside of the 2" flooring, the joists, and the skids with? The skids will only contact the brackets of the helical piles and not come in contact with the ground at all. There should be air flow and limited if any sun exposure. I am concerned with preventing moisture buildup, mold, etc.... and not having to reapply a product later on because that would be extremely difficult to access. View answer

I have MCS and we are having no-VOC cabinets fabricated for our laundry room, which will be painted using AFM Safecoat. Should the PureBond plywood and solid wood be primed before painting with Safecoat? Would semi-gloss be best for laundry room cabinets? I have been buying safe products from Green Building Supply for years. I can't thank you enough for selling safe, no-VOC products. They are a real life-saver. Keep up the great work! View answer

We are adding new sheetrock (wet rated and ceiling both) to a bathroom remodel (all walls). Is the New Wallboard the right primer or is it not suitable for wet rated sheetrock, such as the Mold tough line from USG? Half of the walls in the bathroom will be tiled. View answer

Loving this product so far. However, I'm confused on what's the best protocol for sanding. I've heard that before applying oils/sealers, it's best to sand a little, as it 'roughs up' the surface a bit to allow for better oil penetration. Is this true? Also, on the official "Technical Information and Application" PDF for this product, it states "For best absorbency, all surfaces should be sanded NO FINER than #100". But this leaves the surface fairly rough - can I not sand it more finely, creating a smoother wood surface? Thanks a bunch! View answer

The installation guide indicates the countertop will expand and contract, possibly up to 1/2 inch. Does that mean we should leave a gap between the edge of the countertop and a rigid structure such as a fixed wall? For a 36"x72" slab, would it expand in both directions equally or might it be less in say the long direction vs the short? Would the 1.5" thickness be prone to significant expansion as well? If I just want to preserve the appearance of the exterior of my redwood garden boxes and not concern myself with preserving the interior, could I just use this product and not need to put the AFM Safecoat Dynoseal on the interior? Do I need to be concerned with this product leaching any chemicals into the soil without the interior coating? View answer
