I'm looking for a water based polyacrylic to cover a wood measuring stick I created for my daughter. I have acrylic paint pens for marking her age, so polyacrylic would be perfect for protecting it but also being able to paint over in the future. However, I'm having a hard time finding a VOC-free version. Do you have a product that will match this need? View answer

I am interested in your Marmoleum countertop material for a kitchen sink countertop area. The sink area is approximately 18 sq. ft. Would this product be shipped as 2 sheets of 9 sq. ft (1 square yard) or one large sheet of the size I need? Also, how can you trim this material? View answer

Is SafeCoat suitable for painting a kitchen floor? I have a small kitchen with uneven floors--old fir with a Varathane finish that is now worn, nasty and ugly. The floor is so broken up and the space is small so I don't want to go through the expense of re-flooring with wood--just want color and a clean look. View answer

I noticed one of the other odor sealers on your site said not to use it over oil-based polyurethane, but the Acrylacq description didn't say that specifically. Does the Acrylacq work well over oil-based polyurethanes? I am chemically sensitive and would love to be able to buy 'normal' finish furniture and just put a coat of this over the top! View answer

My dad has fabricated a hunting cabin using an existing metal building. The interior has been enclosed in plywood on ceilings and walls, insulated with roll-out insulation in between the metal walls and plywood. We used caulking and glue to seal in all the spaces and cracks. The building seems to be off-gassing, and it actually made him sick a few days after he stayed in it last year. I want to seal it before he comes back in November. I talked to an ecoadvisor, was recommended the HardSeal since we are not planning on painting, keeping the natural, rustic look. The cabin is 440 sq ft, how many gallons will I need to cover with one coat? I will need to coat the ceilings too, basically the whole interior. I plan on using a sprayer. View answer

I'm looking at the product SafeCoat Hard Seal to cover up cat urine. The previous owner of my home had a cat and I'm looking for a way to cover the smell. How well does this product cover up cat urine that's on a concrete subfloor? Can this product be used on a concrete subfloor? Is there a better product that you are aware of that would do this?" I'm building a log cabin and need help in selecting stains to test for the outside of the logs. The logs will be treated with borate, but need protection from the sun and rain. I'm extremely chemically sensitive, and any products containing natural rubber latex (AKA latex) would not be an option. Suggestions? Naturally I want a product that will hold up as long as possible, but it's most important that it is relatively inert and doesn't cause any reactions for me. I'll be testing before application for my tolerance, since even I don't know what I will react to half of the time, I understand that you have no control over what might or might not work and how my body might react. What offers the best performance for the chemically sensitive? View answer

According to your website, the SafeCoat Polyureseal BP cannot be applied over oil-based polyurethanes or oil-based products. Does this include oil-based stain, such as Minwax? Wood Finish? 250 VOC Compliant, a penetrating oil-based wood stain? If so, are there stains that you would recommend instead? View answer

I'm looking to paint a bathroom cabinet and a piece of furniture, but I am having trouble deciding between the ECOS brand and AFM Safe Coat. Which one is best if I'm going for the most eco-friendly, non-toxic option? Are they comparable or does one stand out? I read somewhere that the ECOS contains mildewcides and AFM does not, but I don't know if this is accurate. Do you know or can you confirm that this is the case? View answer

We have a garage that we've converted to a cabin for my father. We put up chipboard walls and ceiling. He is chemical sensitive to the off-gassing. Would applying AFM Safe Seal to the already-installed boards solve the problem? We would only be treating one side of the boards. View answer

I am looking for the best options for a finish on a painted pine wood floor. There will be a few layers of paint on the floor (likely a no VOC water based paint, followed by a milk paint or some such) and I need something that will create a durable surface that shoes and high heels won't mar. Suggestions? View answer

I know that Kahrs is listed as an eco flooring but I noticed that some of the Kahrs products have to be oiled after installation. Is this a low VOC oil provided by Kahrs? I just wonder if I am defeating my green choice by then having to oil the floors after installation. View answer

I plan on installing USFloors Expressions Hand Scraped Spice with Quiet Walk. I have a concrete slab floor, house was built in 1982. Do I need to seal it with a sealer, or only if the Calcium Chloride test shows moisture? If you recommend a sealer, then which one of yours should I purchase? View answer

I was wondering if you could ask AFM about whether Safeseal on plywood sheathing would stop water vapor from being able to pass from the inside of the house to the outside. I'm wondering if I am going to cause walls not to be able to dry to the outside because of this product. In a nutshell, does Safeseal affect the permeability of the plywood to allow water vapor to pass through?
I'm reasoning if it stops off gassing of formaldehyde (gas) that it will also stop water vapor (gas) also. Is my reasoning faulty? View answer

I am installing T&G Douglas Fir flooring in a small (200 sq ft) hermitage. The cabin is located in an organic garden so I certainly want to use an environmentally friendly product. The cabin will not get a lot of foot traffic (200 sq ft doesn't allow for a lot of feet). I am trying to keep the cost down. Which of your products would you recommend? View answer

I recently purchased SafeCoat wood stain and am very happy with it! However, when I went to apply the SafeCoat Polyureseal BP (satin finish) to the dining room table I have stained, on reading the directions it said that I HAD to use 1 or 2 coats of glossy finish Polyureseal first if I wanted to get a matte finish? Do I really need to order a glossy quart now, as well, in order to achieve a matte finish? What happens if I just use 2 to 3 coats of the satin finish? View answer

I am interested in sealing my mudroom floor which is made of unfinished bricks. I was wondering if your penetrating sealer would be an appropriate product: http://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/All-Products/Paints-Coatings-Concrete-Masonry-Sealers/Green-Building-Supply-Penetrating-Concrete-Sealer The description mentions mostly exterior applications, so I wanted to double check regarding interior floor use. Also, would it be appropriate to use on a stoop directly outside of the mudroom door? View answer

She likes the Spa blue color (3219).
The questions we have are:
1. What is the price of this product?
2. How long does it take to receive the product?
3. What (if anything) is used underneath the Marmoleum as an underlayment, and what kind of glue should she use? The trailer has flooring that is marine plywood, which we have recently installed.
