I lost my home in the N. California Valley wildfire, 7 months ago. I purchased a new home and I can't be on the deck during the day, because heat from the sun reactivates the oil-based stain on the deck, making me ill. I've chemical allergies, especially to oil-based stains (triggering Asthma). I've stripped some of the oil off (using citrus-based natural stripper - SafeStrip) and need to cover the deck with a barrier to reduce outgassing of the oil-based stain residuals, protect the wood, not outgas after it cures. Would Deck Revive and PermaBond create a barrier to block the residual oils from reactivating when heated by the high noon sun? Do you have any suggestion on ways of stripping oil-based stain not using toxic chemicals? View answer

We plan to install floating cork flooring over cement slab at grade. A moisture barrier like Moisture Block is needed as our real-life experience of moisture migrates from the ground up, through cement. We also want QuietWalk: it's insulative, cushioning & moisture wicking. The cork floor manufacturer's installation pdf says don't install the floor over an underlayment more than 1/8" (0.125) thick. QuietWalk is .13" thick (.05" too thick). Plus .006" thick Moisture Block would exceed max allowable thickness by .056. I saw in another Q&A using both may be overkill, but I feel we need both. I'm confused about exceeding the manufacturer's allowed underlayment thickness. Can you clear up any confusion and can I use both underlayments together? View answer

I have a Hot Dipped Galvanized Metal dog kennel, can I apply two AFM Safecoat products to, a base coat of AFM SafeCoat, MetalCoat Metal Primer (as a base-layer) with 2 top-coats of AFM SafeCoat, All Purpose Exterior Satin, Custom Color Paint? I know AFM SafeCoat Transitional Primer works with the All Purpose Exterior Satin, though I wonder if MetalCoat is better for this? The kennels going to be revamped as a catio & kept outside throughout the seasons; with a very free-draining mixed-aggregate/Geocell ground grid & stone-flagger topped patio with a Corten steel border to serve as base pedestal. Would this be the combo I need to ensure that the kennel can have extra layers of materials life and will resist the elements year round? View answer

Dry chemistry components do not breakdown completely. Following Instructions Mixed components in 65 degree shop after having set for several days in 60 degree plus space. Added liquid together with exterior gloss acrylic paint. Stirred liquids for several minutes. Added dry components gradually while mixing, continued mixing. Mixed for 10 minutes and found the mix grainy as though there was sand in mix. Let mix set for 20 minutes and remixed, I mixed with drill driven mixer for 15 minutes more. Still grainy. Applied to deck and rails. Result was rough sandpaper finish. Disappointed. Rails too rough to rest bare arms on and deck too rough for kids to want to run and play on. I've used three kits and results all the same. What's wrong? View answer

I am sampling one AC vent in my home. The vent grills have what appears to be dark mold on them. I would like to take a sample from the surface of the grills (visual mold) and also attach the petri dish to the same vent. Can I put the surface mold on 1/2 the petri dish and leave the other half empty when I attach the petri dish to the AC vent. If I need to use 2 tests, one for the air flow coming out of the AC vent (attach to the AC vent) and one for the surface mold, is it ok to swipe the surface of both the grills and the inner wall of the same AC vent. I didn't know if I need 2 test kits for sampling the AC grills and the vent wall on the inside of the AC grills. It is black with suspected mold growth too, unless it is just dust. View answer

I have several samples of Marmoleum Cocoa that I like very much but would prefer a much higher gloss sheen. Can this (or Forbo commercial gloss finish) be applied to new Marmoleum for the specific purpose of achieving a higher gloss? I understand that topshield2 does not require additional finish for surface protection. I am simply looking to achieve higher gloss on the Marmoleum Cocoa (without compromising it's durability). If not this product, what could be used to gloss up satin Marmoleum. Thanks. View answer

Hi - we recently moved to Hawaii and purchased some nice Westminster Teak pieces for outdoors. They are under an awning but the humidity here is high most of the year. We have extreme chemical and mold sensitivities and are looking for a natural stain for our new furniture. Can you tell me how your product compares to Rubio Monocoat stains and second how often we might need to reapply your stain if we go with it? Many thanks! View answer
