We are planning to paint out old farmhouse in the spring. We will be painting over aluminum siding that was installed in the late 70s. it's been painted several times over the years, but it is chalky and fading. What do we need to do to prep the aluminum, and then what products would we use to prime and paint (and how many coats of each would you recommend for aluminum)? View answer

I plan to paint over some oak wood trim. I will give it a light sanding first as it is covered in a glossy finish. Would this primer work? I see it says it is for wood, but then later mentions it's not recommended for certain woods. I don't know much about tannins. What would you recommend I use before paint. (I plan to use AFM for the paint.) View answer

I have a shelving/storage unit in our mudroom (hanging coats, shoe storage, etc.) that I want to paint. I am pregnant and trying to be extra cautious with paint and primers. What do you recommend I use to initially prime the shelving unit and then which paint type to purchase? Does a specific paint type go with a specific primer? Do I need to "seal" anything with a different product once I'm done painting? Thank you. View answer

Hello. I recently enclosed my patio for my cats. A semi gloss metal paint was recommended for my walls for easy cleanup. Now, I'm worried the paint is toxic and contains harmful glycols. I want to repaint the walls but need to put a primer or barrier on the walls to seal the toxic paint. What do you recommend? Thank you View answer

We are painting all new trim, our customer is VERY VERY sensitive to many things. We've used your ecolacq sandable primer. Lots of bleed thru for our Poplar Wood, is your transitional primer sandable? I believe the only products we are approved to use are the AFM Safecoat products. View answer

I'm putting up new drywall and want to know which afm products are best suited to seal off toxic off gassing. From what I read, is it afm transitional primer and afm safecoat ? Or do I use afm new wallboard prime coat in replacement of the transitional primer? Will it have the same encapsulation properties? View answer

Hi there, will this primer work well for old plaster walls? We have a 1940s home & tore off two layers of old wood paneling to discover yellow painted plaster walls. So it's easy to assume it's lead based paint as well. Will this primer be suitable for this? We have ecos paint but cannot use their primer as it isn't suitable for plaster. Thank you so much for your help! View answer

I just hired a contractor to remove popcorn ceiling, resurface and repaint the ceiling. He used a Sherman Williams paint that smells so toxic, it's causing me to have eye, nose, throat and respiratory irritation. Can I use AFM safecoat sealing primer to paint over the existing paint the contractor used to get rid of the odor? View answer

I was given eight 3 ft x 5 ft metal boxes I intend to use as veggie beds. What do you recommend I paint on the inside to keep the boxes from rusting away too soon and is safe to treat the inside of these metal boxes so that the veggies that people eat won't absorb anything toxic from either the paint or leaching from the metal? The boxes on the inside are presently coated with dirt, some paint, lots of rust and bare metal. View answer

I have removed wallpaper, filled cracks with plaster and sanded those down to create a smooth surface. There are however still some minor imperfections in the wall. Can I use this primer to form a thick smooth coating so my paint layer goes on nicely? Also I am painting a baby room, so will this have no off gassing? And if this is the right primer, what paint can you recommend that will give no voc and no off gassing? Thank you View answer

Will this adhere to semi-gloss paint? The previous owners of our home used semi-gloss on the ceiling in some areas. I hate it and I am wanting to switch to eggshell of matte. I am hoping to find a non-toxic solution that does not require us having sand and retexture the ceilings. Would this work or do you have another product you would recommend? Thanks! View answer
