I just hired a contractor to remove popcorn ceiling, resurface and repaint the ceiling. He used a Sherman Williams paint that smells so toxic, its causing me to have eye, nose, throat and respiratory irritation. Can I use AFM safecoat sealing primer to paint over the existing paint the contractor used to get rid of the odor? View answer

I was given eight 3 ft x 5 ft metal boxes I intend to use as veggie beds. What do you recommend I paint on the inside to keep the boxes from rusting away too soon and is safe to treat the inside of these metal boxes so that the veggies that people eat won't absorb anything toxic from either the paint or leaching from the metal? The boxes on the inside are presently coated with dirt, some paint, lots of rust and bare metal. View answer

I have removed wallpaper, filled cracks with plaster and sanded those down to create a smooth surface. There are however still some minor imperfections in the wall. Can I use this primer to form a thick smooth coating so my paint layer goes on nicely? Also I am painting a baby room, so will this have no off gassing? And if this is the right primer, what paint can you recommend that will give no voc and no off gassing? Thank you View answer

Will this adhere to semi-gloss paint? The previous owners of our home used semi-gloss on the ceiling in some areas. I hate it and I am wanting to switch to eggshell of matte. I am hoping to find a non-toxic solution that does not require us having sand and retexture the ceilings. Would this work or do you have another product you would recommend? Thanks! View answer

I have new masonite shelves that I need to stop the voc fumes from. Will be indoors. Preferably one coat, if it is primer. It will be in closet, so looks are not important. Would like it to be white. Also do I need to sand? Thank you for your help. Which Safecoat product would you recommend? View answer

I have a shelving/storage unit in our mudroom (hanging coats, shoe storage, etc.) that I want to paint. I am pregnant and trying to be extra cautious with paint and primers. What do you recommend I use to initially prime the shelving unit and then which paint type to purchase? Does a specific paint type go with a specific primer? Do I need to "seal" anything with a different product once I'm done painting? Thank you. View answer

I plan to paint over some oak wood trim. I will give it a light sanding first as it is covered in a glossy finish. Would this primer work? I see it says it is for wood, but then later mentions it's not recommended for certain woods. I don't know much about tannins. What would you recommend I use before paint. (I plan to use AFM for the paint.) View answer

My husband and I recently nailed a grid of wood two-by-fours on our bedroom wall (pine, unfinished, plenty of knotholes). I was going to paint the wall with the grids of wood nailed to it a dark color, however a professional painter told me I need to prime the boards with an oil based primer so that the knotholes don't keep bleeding through.Do you have a Safecoat that the painters can use over the white oil-based primer that can later be painted with latex paint? I want to seal in some of the oil primer's VOCs because I am six months pregnant. Then, I wanted to paint the wall a color of my choice. What would you recommend? I don't want knotholes bleeding through, but I am very concerned about the fumes. View answer

I am a single pregnant mom and trying to be careful with paint and primers. What do you recommend I use to prime the shelving unit and then which paint to purchase? I have a wood shelf unit in our entryway (place for boots, umbrellas, etc.) that I want to paint. Does a specific paint go w/ a specific primer? Do I need to "seal" anything with a different product before I paint? Or after I paint? (Sorry for all the questions, love your store!) View answer

Hi, I am looking to repaint an old fence that had weathered quite a bit and hit by moss and lichen. I had cleaned it and sanded it down but looking to restore and protect it but also have a choice of colors to choose from. What would be my best bet with an environmentally responsible primer/paint/sealant? I was thinking a Safecoat transitional primer followed by their exterior paint satin but not sure? Thank you,Yaniv View answer

I ran out of AFM transitional primer after using three gallons for three rooms, and my painters were not really able to get a good cover on the master bedroom with new drywall. I am not happy with the thin layer of primer that is on the walls. My question is can I use the gallon of ECOS drywall primer over top of AFM transitional primer to get a more even coverage than I have? I like how our other rooms look with a very good coat of AMF and always believed it is important to have good solid coat of primer for a nicer paint finish. View answer
