I have a carbon steel sheet (lead-free) that will be used for a magnetic board for my kids. The surface is uncoated and bare and will need to be coated to prevent rust from oxidation. I ordered a new cast iron radiator (steam radiator) which comes pre-primed by the manufacturer. They said that without painting it with a "Non alkalized oil based enamel" the radiator would be off-gassing toxins and it Shouldn't be used until it's painted.
