I need to stain joists that I will be using to rebuild part of my deck. The boards are pressure-treated 6X10s that have been cut into four-foot lengths. All the info I can find online about preparing lumber so that stain will adhere to it recommends toxic products. Everything I read says that if you don't prepare the boards the stain won't adhere. That is a particular problem since I live at 9,000 feet in Colorado where we have bitter, snowy winters. We stained our wood-clad patio doors with the walnut-colored Rubio Monocoat, after testing the stain color on a piece of 1x4. The doors turned out much lighter than the swatch shown on your website and also much lighter than the test piece.<BR>We would like to go darker on the color.
