We’ve provided several answers to questions related to Paints & Primers , see some other helpful Q&A related to this product.
Question: Does this primer block tannins and is it safe for painting a baby crib?
Answer: None of the products we sell block organic wood smells or tannins. One route you could go involves using chemicals to block the tannins (then you can block the chemicals) You would first need to go to a box store and purchase a waxless shellac (the shellac will off-gas) to apply over the wood. This will encapsulate the tannins. Then, you may use the AFM Transitional Primer over the coats of dried shellac, followed by the AFM Zero VOC paint over that. This combination will make the baby crib safe from tannins.
Question: Do you have a quart available for pickup?
Answer: We do have stock of that on hand currently in our Fairfield Iowa store, yes.
Question: Can your transitional safe coat primer be used over polyurethane would without having to sand the wood?
Answer: It is preferable that you do a mild sanding first. You want the primer to stick well and it may well not if you don't sand first.
