Some recommend a shellac sealer first but others say to just wait for the oil finish to fully dry or cure. Hi. I see you do not recommend putting this product over an oil-based stain. However, I had tables made and the guy put a water-based polyurethane (Varathane brand) OVER his oil-based Varathane wood stain. The tables look awesome, no flaking or peeling. But they are off-gassing and the odor is bothersome. But I feel like it will be safe to put a coat of SafeCoat PolySeal BP on top since there is already a water-based finished that was put on last.
