I inherited an old house with damaged cork tile with lots of cat urine (smelly). Some of the cork tiles are ruined, soaked with urine. To add to the problem, a lot of the cats are still here; most behave, but a few don't (they are indoor cats, I plan to rehome them soon). Enzymatic odor removers work well (should work...forever? - things like Angry Orange, Rocco & Roxie Professional Strength Stain & Odor Eliminator). Can I use the Enzymatic odor remover, then apply AFM SafeCoat Polyureseal BP or other AFM sealing product (please advise which) to seal the old cork tile, and then put your waterproof cork (floating) over it. I don't want to lay your waterproof cork flooring and then smell urine. Please advise? -Beverly

Yes. The first step is to remove ALL the cats. If you have cats in this house, the problem will certainly perpetuate.Second step is to deal with the flooring that is saturated with urine. Our recommendation would be to physically remove and throw out all that flooring and replace the subflooring too, we do not sell any sealer (including Polyureseal BP) that will cover up or encapsulate that urine smell. Period. Unless you are exaggerating how bad it is, this is really the only way.I can't comment on enzymatic odor removers you mention (Angry Orange, or Rocco & Roxie Professional Strength Stain & Odor Eliminator), as I've no experience with them. But the basic science of the process indicates that in order for these enzymes to do the job thoroughly, they need to penetrate and saturate into the cork and subfloor to the level the urine has. If this has built up over several years (decades?) it may be extremely difficult to get it all.
