Question: Can another coat of finish be added after installation?
Answer: While additional coats of polyurethane can be added, it is typically not required for many years until the surface finish has been heavily worn. That could be 5-10 years or more depending upon the type and amount of traffic and how well the floor has been maintained. Please note: once a finish is added, the manufacturers finish warranty is no longer valid. Should you wish to use this at a later date, we recommend our Vermont Natural Coatings PolyWhey Floor Finish or our AFM 2K Pro Finish Urethane. In the old days, additional coats were applied in order to seal the tiny gaps between the planks and avoid water soaking through them. However, Amorim's waterproof cork floors click together very tight and it's very difficult for water to get through. However, if you have potential water issues with kids, dogs, overflowing tubs and toilets, we suggest using our Taylor Resolute adhesive underneath the planks instead. That is a better way of preventing moisture from soaking beneath the planks and damaging your subfloor.

Question: Are there dye lots or other color differences related to manufacturing that would matter if I order more Traces Natural at a later date?
Answer: Each time a new batch of flooring is produced, there is the possibility for some differences in color. Additionally - as your previous batch of flooring acclimates within your home, it can change color slightly over time, especially in areas that are exposed to strong sunlight.
-
Question: What percentage extra of Traces Natural should I order?
Answer: It depends upon your situation. Contractors usually say 10-15% overage. Your installer should know how much extra to order. If you are installing in a room with a lot of non-square angles this can also mean more overage is needed.

Question: Our goal is to have a floor that has good cushioning, insulation, soundproofing and can hold up to furniture and foot traffic (2nd floor bedroom, office, playroom). I'm torn between Cork or Marmoleum.I'd like your opinion on the durability of the Go-cork plank product. Indenting, fading and non-waterproof seem to be the main marks against it. Can you interpret these numbers? From what I can see on this website, the Cork has IIC 58, STC 54, r-value: ? compared to Marmoleum IIC57, ASTM E 492, STC ?, r-value 0.53.Am I to understand that marmoleum plank has almost similar properties to Cork plank?
Answer: Yes, there are many similarities between these two products from a health and safety as well as sound and durability standpoint. Aesthetically, however, they are very different. Without knowing the precise nature of your families foot traffic, e.g. dogs, cats, age of kids, amount of kids, shoes vs. no shoes, it's challenging to provide a black and white answer. We have customers with pets using both floors with success in bedrooms and offices and playrooms nationwide. However, if you don't clip the nails of your pets and they run through the home they will scratch almost every type of floor.Resilient floors will dent, but they both will bounce back because they both have a memory. They both will fade as all natural flooring such as hardwood or bamboo products fade 10-15% over time. Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc Seal is waterproof and Amorim Waterproof cork is also waterproof. However, the Cork Go products are water-resistant. You still need to wipe up all spills no matter what type of floor. If you want something more bullet proof, it will not be as resilient and comfortable as these two such as our GBS Strand Bamboo or our GBS Waterproof Hardwood.
-
Question: Mold resistant?
Answer: Cork is naturally antimicrobial and it is very difficult for mold to grow on it unless it sits in water all day long.
-

However, we now offer a wall cork called Dekwall which is designed for walls. It is lighter, less expensive and easier to apply for DIY. We have this in stock and can ship immediately. Free shipping for orders > 250 SF.
-
Question: I'm thinking about this flooring for a mobile dog grooming trailer. My biggest concerns are moisture from the environment, sound dampening, and comfort for my feet. Would this be a good fit?
Answer: It would be best for you to use Marmoleum glue down tiles or sheet goods as those are most often used in vets offices and grooming parlors. Marmoleum can move best with the trailer. They state that areas to receive material should be clean, fully enclosed and weather tight. The permanent HVAC should be fully operational and controlled and set at a minimum temperature 65 degrees F (18.3 degrees C). If this is not possible, the areas should be acclimated and controlled by means of temporary HVAC to the service level conditions expected during occupancy. The temperature and humidity should range from 75 degrees F ? 10 degrees F (23.9 degrees C ? 5.5 degrees C) with a 50% ? 10% ambient relative humidity. These conditions must be established at least seven days prior to beginning the installation, maintained during the installation, and continued for at least seven days following the installation.https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...

-
Question: Will this perform well over uneven and sloping floors?
Answer: Per the Installation Instructions on the product page itself, https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c... , "Confirm that subfloor and site conditions are in accordance with the specifications described within these instructions. Amorim Wise can be installed in all domestic areasand in most commercial areas, except in saunas and permanent wet areas. Wooden Subfloors must be APA rated. All subfloors must be even, flat, level, and dry. Variations Should not exceed 5mm in 2m (3/16" in 6 ?'). " If your floor is sloping, it would not fit within these parameters.
-
Question: How does it do with stains, such as in kitchen, or from pets?
Answer: If your asking if the floors can be discolored, etc., of course they can, not unlike any other floors. The key is to clean up messes as they happen and don't let them sit for an extended period of time.

Answer: Only the Nova Cork comes in 12x12 glue down tiles. The Amorim waterproof cork can be glued down too but they are 7 1/2 x 48".We barely ever sell 12 x 12 anymore because the click floating tiles perform better and require no glue. Much easier to install.Hope this helps.

-
Question: The installation instructions say: Never install Wicanders floating floors without using a PE moisture barrier film with a minimum thickness of 0,2mm (6mil.Do not install the PE over wooden subfloors. If I'm installing over plywood subfloor do I need to put something else down first?
Answer: Per the verbiage on the product page, "They (these floors) can be easily installed without glue by floating over most flat, stable subfloors made of concrete, plywood or even over existing vinyl, linoleum or tile floors. ". The installation guide from them is a bit confusing. But you may install it over a stable, flat, high grade plywood subfloor.
-
Question: Has anyone noticed contraction and joints at short ends opening up in winter for a glue down installation over clean plywood substrate? Gaps are somewhere between 1/16 and 1/8" in size and noticeable from a distance.
Answer: When a floor is glued down, the panels generally don't gap like they might if they were floated. Gapping is usually, but not always, due to the absence of moisture in the ambient air which causes the panels to shrink slightly usually in cold dry months of the year. At other times of the year, they may expand back to their original shape. That is normal and controlling your humidity within 30-60% will help mitigate that.On the other hand, shrinkage can also be due to a plywood subfloor contracting and flooring that is glued to it will move right along with it. So, if the cork floor happens to sit on top of a seam of two pieces of plywood and the plywood separates, so will the cork separate that is glued on top. Not much you can do about that at this point.
-
Question: Does a cork floor need to be temperature controlled?
Answer: Yes. Per the Installation Guidelines in the Downloads section on the right side of the product page, https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c... , "Maintain temperature and relative humidity to a level consistent with the conditions which will prevail when the building is occupied. In most cases, this means maintaining a temperature range from 18?C to 28?C (65?F to 82?F) and relative humidity range from 35% to 65%. "
-
Question: What size are the Samples?
Answer: The Cork GO are about 6x6 inches. But all sizes of different floors vary.
-
Question: How is this product made waterproof? What specifically is added or is used to treat the cork.
Answer: The Amorim Wise line is inherently waterproof because of the makeup/construction of the product, mainly the cork components which are very water resistant to begin with. The mineral components involved in the construction/process of making the core are also a contributing factor. As for the non-toxic piece, the Wise product is produced PVC free, there is also no off gassing with the Amorim Wise products. Also Amorim Wise has a negative carbon balance.
-

Amorim Wise should also be protected from excessive heat and sunlight by the use of curtains or blinds.". So just keep that in mind.
-
Question: Can you put kitchen cabinetry on top of the flooring, or should the flooring be cut around the cabinetry?
Answer: Regarding Waterproof cork, when floated the manufacturer recommends putting around the cabinetry with a 1/4" gap between the cork and the toe kick. Then cover the gap with a quarter round molding. Generally, cork should be glued down in a kitchen if there are frequent spills, kids, dogs, etc. The glue prevents moisture from getting between the planks and makes for a more stable, i.e. non-moving application. In this case, you can apply cabinets directly over the top of the floor.

Question: Can you explain what all the "Non PVC" Components are. On Amorim Wise website for Wood look materials, from the bottom to top there are 5 Layers: 1:"Integrated Cork Underlay" 2. "Non PVC Cork Rigid Core" 3. "Cork Inlay" 4. Non PVC Wood Printed Film". "SRT Non PVC Protective Wear Layer"What is the difference Between HRT and SRT wear layers? What is this layer, Aluminum Oxide, Acrylic Polyurethane, or a wax such as Carnauba Wax, or other? What is the non PVC textured wood printed film actually made of?How are the subsequent three layers (cork inlay, rigid cork core, and cork underlay manufactured? Do any of them contain any resins or binders. If so what are they? Thanks,Nicholas M Schedeler
Answer: Thanks for your excellent questions.1. The cork underlay is made of 100% cork2. The Rigid core is made of 100% cork that is impregnated with high density polyethylene (HDPE) which is a food grade plastic used in milk cartons 3. Cork inlay is simply a veneer of cork layer added beneath the surface.4. The non-pvc wood printed film is a HDPE film with 3D printing s5. The superior resistance technology (SRT) wear layer on top is made of PET which is also a type of non-toxic polyethylene that does not off-gas.The cork look has a UV cured acrylic Polyurethane finish. The wood look has the PET coating. The non-pvc wood printed film is answered in #4.All of these layers are compressed under heat and pressure. The natural suberin resins contained in the cork cells are what help bind these layers together.High resistance technology (HRT) is used on the cork look and Superior resistance technology is used on the wood look. The HRT can be refinished with a polyurethane finish if desired. The SRT cannot be refinished.

Question: Currently have 20 yr old cork flooring in our home I want to replace to keep the sustainable nature the designers initially intended. Much of the floor has dramatically faded due to sunlight. Will sanding floor bring back the original color? We have floating cork planks in kitchen over radiant floor heating (buckled from water damage, have large floor gaps) and glue down cork squares in areas with baseboard heating. Your website seems to say the Waterproof CORK look floors need to be initially top coated then regularly resanded and varnished to make them waterproof while the wood look is maintenance free? If additional top coating is needed for the cork look why is the price different from regular cork flooring? Thoughts on Osmo Polyx-Oil?
Answer: 1) Sanding will not bring back the color and is not recommended. Re--coating can be done, however with our AFM Polyureseal BP after a light sanding of the surface but the color will be as it is.2) The Amorim waterproof cork flooring is pre-finished and can be recoated after years of wear in high traffic areas, but is not needed initially. The waterproofing is throughout the entire product, nothing need be added.3) There is not such thing as maintenance free. You still need to sweep and damp mop your floor regularly to keep it looking and performing well.4) The finish on the cork look has an HRT high resistance technology that uses a highly elastic resin resulting in a natural and flexible surface with superior wear resistance. Produced from sustainable materials, it is micro-scratch resistant, prevents color shading and is warm and pleasant to the touch. It is also recoatable. The wood look uses a PET finish which is very durable but not recoatable.5) We have tested (Osmo Polyx-Oil) but it is not recommended for either of these cork products. It emits a very strong odor that most of our customers would not want to experience.

Question: Can this be installed directly over Dricore basement subflooring?
Answer: Yes, but a vapor retarder should be used first underneath.
-
Question: Can this be used in a dry climate such as Kanab Utah?
Answer: Any floors have specific parameters with regard to humidity and temperature - this is either spelled out in the warranty or the installation/maintenance instructions. If your home is not climate controlled then most flooring will fail over time if exposed to high and low temperature and humidity fluctuations, cork is certainly no exception. In the case of the Nova Cork Comprido Collection, the warranty states "Damage [is not covered] due to exposure to excessive heat, cold or dryness (It is recommended that the relative humidity in a home stay in the healthy range of 40-60% throughout the year. To accomplish this, it may require the use of a de-humidifier or a humidifier depending on the condition)..." this phrasing is also included in the installation instructions, which also add that temperature should be kept at a moderate temperature.Warranty: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c... Installation Instructions: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
-
Question: Can I paint the surface of the product if I want it to appear as a different color?
Answer: No. Painting over pre-sealed flooring is generally a bad idea as you need a good bond between the floor surface and the paint. You could do this if you were going over raw, freshly sanded wood or porous concrete. Over pre sealed cork however, no, would not work. And it would absolutely void the warranty on the floor.
-
Question: You need instructions on how to install?
Answer: On the right side of the product page under Downloads, you will see all the installation instructions. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
-
Question: Hi! In reviewing this - it appears I need to install this as a glue down as I want to put this in a laundry room. I also saw the official list of recommended adhesives - but I couldn't find them for sale. What am I supposed to use?

-
Question: does this cork keep the floor warmer than tile? what is the expected lifespan of this product w/ normal foot traffic ? thank you
Answer: Cork is a natural thermal insulator and will certainly be much warmer than ceramic tile. Our customers have been using cork flooring for more than 20+ years. Many have told us they grew up with cork as kids and the cork is still in their parents homes after 60 years. We also see them installed in courtrooms, libraries and museums where they last for many decades. As long as you take care of your floors and maintain them regularly and properly, they should last as long as your home.
-
Question: We are wanting to install waterproof cork in our Mercedes Sprinter van conversion. Would this be an appropriate application for this type of floor?

-
Question: Although your colour selection is very nice, you do not offer the colours that I am looking for. Is it possible to paint/stain or otherwise alter the colour of the cork tile? Is it possible to make the floor smooth, to aid in cleaning? Thank you!
Answer: Anything is possible if you are willing to experiment with different finishes. Of course, the manufacturer's warranty will not be valid if you apply anything to the surface.Cork cleans up just like hardwood, bamboo or linoleum. Just damp mop with water or a neutral pH cleaner.
-
Question: I'm interested in the waterproof cork flooring. Are the the closeout colors on sale or just won't be available any longer?

-
Question: My kitchen already has tiles. Can I install cork floor over them or Indeed to take tiles off and work over clean/cement surface?
Answer: Sure. As long as the subfloor is sound, level, and flat, floating floors can be laid on top of most hard surfaces such as resilient floor coverings, wood flooring, and ceramic tiles. Soft subfloors such as carpets, cushion-backed vinyl, and similar must be removed. For the Cork GO Wicanders product, this is spelled out in the installation instructions which are included in the downloads on the product page. Direct link below for your convenience.https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
-
Question: What is the best way to get scuff marks off the flooring?
Answer: If you are talking about cleaning the floor, I'll quote the installation guidelines section on maintenance:AMORIM Wise waterproof cork should be maintained in the same manner as most hard surface floors. This includes daily vacuuming and sweeping of dust and dirt with products such as a Dry Swiffer or Swiffer Moisture Cloth, as well as damp mopping every week. Should there be extra dirt and grime, typical neutral pH floor cleaners should be used.Examples include:? WoodWise Hardwood Floor Cleaner? Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner? Core Products HydroxiPro concentrate? Vermeister Detergente Neutro Hardwood Floor Cleaner, etc.Cleaners to be avoided include those with oil, strong acids or alkalis. All steam cleaners and wet mops are also to be avoided.Installation Guidelines: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...

Question: Can I put it directly over a painted cement basement floor?
Answer: It depends. If you are doing a glue down installation you can apply it directly over the concrete (glue down is a must for high traffic and high moisture areas). If you are doing a floating installation you need to have a vapor barrier installed between the concrete and the flooring. This is all covered in the installation guidelines and instructions, located in the downloads section of the product page, direct links below for your convenience:Guidelines: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c... Question: Would there be any issues with installing in an unheated sunroom (with concrete subfloor)? My sunroom is not climate controlled (heated or cooled) and I would like to install cork flooring in it. I don't believe the temperature will wildly fluctuate in a short period of time and the room is fairly insulated. But I am in New York State and it does get cold outside. I've read good things about this product and would like to give it a try but don't want to have it fail on me for using it in the wrong application. Thank you!
Answer: This cork flooring could be used in your location but there are a few risks that the customer should understand. It does expand/contrast with the weather, so it will have movement unless you glue it down. Also, direct sun may cause it to discolor. The manufacturer of this flooring would not validate a warranty if the location the floor is installed in is not temperature controlled year round.
-
Question: Hello, I'm installing the royal oak cork flooring throughout a house, do you have matching stair nosing or stair treads to match the color of the flooring?
Answer: Per the verbiage on that product page, "Looking for molding to compliment your new floor? We recommend Versatrim compatible moldings. These can be purchased via Versatrim at 866-200-8132." Or you may go to their website.
-
Question: The Amorim Waterproof Cork Flooring is advertised as 100% waterproof and the ads show the floor in a room with several inches of water. Why then do the installation instructions recommend gluing the floor in bathroom/kitchens or sealing the joints to prevent water penetration?
Answer: Just because the flooring is waterproof will not automatically make all the connecting areas of your home waterproof - the subfloor and the walls will continue to not be waterproof. So any water could potentially get around and beneath the waterproof flooring (standing puddles, etc.) and will cause moisture problems down the road in your subfloor unless you glue it down. The glue we recommend is the Taylor Resolute which is virtually a waterproof glue and will prevent moisture from getting underneath it. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/T...
-
Question: Can you refinish?
Answer: No. These cork floors come pre-finished and do not have enough of a wear layer to sand and refinish.
-
Question: Are there any matching stair nosings?
Answer: We can help with nosings and other custom trim pieces, although some refer to versatrim.com, while others choose to acquire unfinished pieces from a local hardware store and have them painted or stained to compliment their floors.
-
Question: Can you put it directly over plywood sheet flooring that has been painted (and is paint-chipped in some areas) without removing or sanding off the paint?
Answer: Per the installation instructions : "The subfloor must be even, flat, dry and variations should not exceed 3mm in 2m (1/8" in 6 - 1/2' feet)..."Provided it's flat and stable plywood sheet flooring, and this is a floating installation, you don't need to touch the paint.Installation instructions are located in the downloads section of the product detail page, direct link below for your convenience: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
-
Question: I'm thinking about covering a couple of old beat-up end tables with cork. How easily does it cut? and can/should it be sealed/waterproofed? If so, what should I use?
Answer: While we applaud your outside the box thinking, we also need to point out that this is not what this flooring product was made for. Wicanders Cork GO is a floating floor, it can't be nailed or glued to the tabletop. We'd recommend instead a glue down flooring product that has been used on tables and desks, Marmoleum glue-down sheet goods. We've used this on our work desks at Green Building Supply.https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...
-
Question: I was interested in installing this on my son's bedroom wall. Is that something that's been done? Can you easily pin things to it like a regular cork board?
Answer: No. Attaching it to a wall is not what this product was made for. The warranty would not cover such use, and there are no directions for such an application. It is click/floating flooring. If you are looking for wallboard you can pin things to, we offer this product from Forbo.https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...
-
Question: Can these planks arranged in a diagonal or herringbone pattern? Will cutting the row-end pieces at a diagonal affect durability or integrity?
Answer: The Cork GO line are click mechanism floors, so they can only be installed in one direction. No herringbone is possible with these while maintaining the design/integrity of the clicking floor.
-

Question: how well will this hold up to rabbit pee? will it dent easy? Pet toenails. Thanks
Answer: We've never tested this with Rabbits, so we can't say for sure. We use this currently in a bathroom at our showroom and it holds up very well to human urine. I would recommend gluing this down to prevent anything from getting between the planks.Re; denting I would not worry about rabbits or other pets denting this product. However, toenails always should be clipped as they can scratch the surface if they are large dogs running through the hallways.
-
Question: Can this material be used for a kitchen backsplash?
Answer: The Amorim Cork Essence panels were designed for flooring and not intended for use as a backsplash. Due to the way this product clicks together side to side and edge to edge the only way to secure this to the wall would be with tiny nails and/or a construction adhesive like our AFM Almighty Adhesive.Unfortunately, there are no instructions for this type of application and the manufacturer will not warrant the product for uses outside its intended purpose.
-
Question: Can I use this in an rv?
Answer: No. For an RV the only product we recommend is Forbo Marmoleum Glue Down Sheet. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...
-

-
Question: Can I use this flooring on a wall, specifically as a backsplash?
Answer: This is flooring, so not warranted for use on a wall. It is also cork only, there is no wood core, so you cannot staple or nail or xxxx this down.
-
Question: Is it possible to use this material aver a technical floor using the glue option? If this is the case, is this floor easy to remove and install if necessary?
Answer: Hi Diana, I'm not sure if it's a typo or if words are missing from your question. The waterproof cork may be installed as a glue-down or a floating floor (certain situations would warrant one installation over another) over an existing floor or subfloor. More info is included in the installation guidelines document we have on the product page in the downloads section (direct link included below).https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c... If the floor is floated, it is easier to unclick and reinstall elsewhere. If it is glued down, that is not really possible to unglue and move elsewhere.
-
Question: We have a covered porch with a floor of 5/4" x 6" pine decking boards (with a small space between them) over 2x8 joists 20" o.c. that are exposed to weather below. We would like to turn the porch into a 3-season room with waterproof cork for flooring. What kind of subfloor & underlayment would be needed between the decking boards & the cork? Thanks for your help & wonderful products!
Answer: We would suggest contacting a contractor to discuss how to waterproof under the deck and lay the subfloor. For the waterproof cork, it would be best to glue it directly to the subfloor. This will keep the floor stable against expanding/contrasting with temperature ranges. Please note, that a location that is not maintained within the temp/humidity of the manufacturer's instruction (65 degrees F to 82 degrees F and relative humidity range from 35% to 65%) will not be covered under warranty. This floor is intended for interior climate-controlled spaces only. For details on installation guidelines, check out the downloads section on the product page (direct link for your convenience: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c... )Another option to look at would be glue-down Marmoleum sheet product. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...

Question: If a dog pees on the floor or some other large quantity of liquid spills (especially if you are not able to clean it up right away) would you have to pull up planks to clean it? I get that the planks are waterproof but how does this prevent liquid from getting under them onto the vapor barrier?
Answer: The click mechanism provides a very tight fit and water or urine will sit there for many hours. However, if allowed to sit too long or if it's too much water, it may eventually get between the planks. The problem is not that the cork will get wet, rather, that the subfloor may get wet. Yes, in the event of a major water issue, you could unclick the floors, dry them out and then snap them back together. Floods are not covered under warranty and are usually covered by your homeowner's insurance. Also, we recommend putting a sealant underneath the front edge that is 1/4" away from the walls so water does not get underneath it.Vapor barriers are only required over concrete subfloors. Plywood subfloors do not need a vapor barrier for this product.
-

Question: Would you recommend your waterproof cork flooring for a childcare program?
Answer: Yes, only if was glued down. The glue prevents water, etc. from getting underneath. It also prevents cupping or buckling from excessive traffic, heat or moisture in the air. It is made for light commercial applications like this.
-
Question: How does it hold up in a shop environment where I'll be rolling around heavy equipment on steel roller wheels?
Answer: It will work well if the cork is glued down first. The hallway in our showroom leads from the elevator to the loading dock and 1500 lb pallet jacks run over it every day without issue. If the weight becomes extreme or the wheels are too small or sharp objects are dragged across the floor, that could be an issue. You have to be careful and use good judgment. We also use our Marmoleum sheeting which also works well.
-
Question: Can this be installed over particle board?
Answer: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c... Question: How to clean?
Answer: "Wicanders floors are easy to clean. Simply vacuum, broom or sweep it to remove all loose dirt and then use a damp but not soaking wet mop to clean. You can also use a broom handle with a cloth at the end. Its anti-static characteristics will clean and prevent dust from settling on the floor. Harsh abrasives or ammonia-based cleaning products should be avoided. Use simple floor cleaning products or approved products by Wicanders." -wicanders.com/faq
-
Question: I've read that appliances (refrigerator, range) sitting on floating cork flooring can dent the floor. Some places I've read that 1/4" plywood should be under appliances, other places say furniture pads are sufficient. What do you recommend?
Answer: Furniture pads are sufficient as they are made for this and they distribute the weight well without hurting the floor. Cork has a memory and the dents usually bounce back after several days. Also, once an appliance is removed, a new one usually takes its place.
-
Question: I just purchased this flooring and wondering if I need underlayment for an upstairs plywood subfloor?
Answer: Per their installation guide https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c..., it states, "Never install Wicanders floating floors without using a PE moisture barrier film with a minimum thickness of 6mil. DO NOT install the PE over WOODEN subfloor. "To translate: You can install the Cork GO over plywood, the quotation indicates you should not have a PE moisture barrier if installing the Cork GO over a wood subfloor. In that case, you would place the Cork GO directly onto the wood subfloor.
-
Question: Has anyone installed this in a travel trailer?
Answer: Per the Amorim tech department, installation in a van/trailer/rv may have flexing of the van's floor. This could break the adhesive bond. Also, temperatures can hit 100F outside and could elevate. The adhesives are not warranted for the temperature ranges exceeding their tolerances, usually between 50F to 85F. The possible floor flexing could damage the locking mechanisms. We would not recommend such an install. The only product we sell that could be used in a trailer is the Forbo Marmoleum Glue-Down sheet products. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...
-
Question: Do the samples in the cork look box have a smooth finish? I didn't like the ridged texture in the wood look samples, even though I liked the looks of some a lot.
Answer: The best way to know is to get a sample box of the cork look and see in person for yourself as everyone's definition of that is different.
-
Question: Can this product be sanded/refinished?
Answer: No, it cannot be sanded. Instead "light scratches can be repaired with tool kits made by Loba-Wakol, Novority, Unika, and Dr. Schultz. Deep gouges can be repaired with wood patching compounds or putty. However, serious damages will usually require replacement of the panel." -Amorim Wise Waterproof Cork Installation Guidelines
-
Question: I had the Wicker floor installed about 6 years ago and absolutely love it. I unfortunately placed some plants directly n it and there is warping in abut there boards; I have one replacement but have decide to use the same pattern in our bedroom for a fresh modern look. Can the warped boards be replaced by the new ones or do I just need to live with the situation?
Answer: Yes, you can definitely replace these. Here's a youtube video: https://www.google.com/search?q=wican...
-
Question: Does the click system allow you to open and close the floor from time to time to reach a trap door in the floor?
Answer: That is a strong "No". Unclicking your floor and clicking it back together again to access things beneath (like a trap door) will put a vast amount of strain on the clicking mechanism, it is not made for and not warranted for that kind of use. Click floors are intended to click together once and then done.
-
Question: Where can I find bullnose trim that matches this flooring for stair treads?
Answer: Per the verbiage on the product page, "Looking for molding to compliment your new floor? We recommend Versatrim compatible moldings, these can be purchased via Versatrim at 866-200-8132."
-
Question: Can I use a robot vacuum to clean this?
Answer: If your robot vacuum is safe for use on hard surface floors, of any kind, we don't see why not.
-
Question: Can this type of floor be used in a bathroom?
Answer: This glue-down cork tile can be used in a dry bathroom. If you have a bathroom prone to wet/moisture (small children, area prone to standing puddles, dogs in the bath, etc.) we would recommend our glue-down waterproof cork floor instead which comes in a cork or a wood visual.
-
Question: can the planks be used on wall?
Answer: Nova does not state that they can be used on walls, we would not recommend it either.
-
Question: If I install the cork over a concrete floor, will the floor still feel springy, or do I need to do it over a plywood floor to achieve that softness?
Answer: If your installing it over concrete, you have to have a barrier under it, which will help with that anyway. Use the MP Global, QuietWalk Plus - without Antimicrobials. It will be the barrier you need as well as give a little more "cush" under the floor. Here are the installation instructions from the Downloads section on the right hand side of the page that you'll want to follow: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
-
Question: Does any of your cork flooring come in wide planks, more than 8in?
Answer: None of the waterproof cork does. If you are looking for cork, in general, https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/s... , scroll down the Filters on the left hand side to width and filter that way.
-
Question: When looking at the website for this flooring, the Creme Weave in a couple of the pictures looks like beige and brown and the other picture with the flowers looks to be off white with gray? So which is it? And, no feature to see it loaded into a room?
Answer: Often variations in lighting/photo studio situations can lead to differences in display online. It's for this reason we always insist that customers order a sample to view the floor in their own home/own ambient lighting conditions. Nothing can simulate or compare to your own eyes on the floor. The "see it in my room" visualizer is dependent upon us securing good enough images, which we are still working on with some of the smaller manufacturers, such as Nova cork.
-
Question: Can the cork floor be used in a bathroom and laundry room?
Answer: Yes. With a caveat. If the room is prone to wetness, we would recommend our Waterproof Cork Flooring which can stand up to wet conditions. The waterproof cork is cork all the way through. By comparison, the Cork GO line of traditional cork flooring contains a wood core, which can swell and warp if standing puddles of water manage to seep through the floorboard seams and into the core of the floor.Waterproof Cork Flooring: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...
-
Question: Is it hard to clean?
Answer: "Wicanders floors are easy to clean. Simply vacuum, broom or sweep it to remove all loose dirt and then use a damp but not soaking wet mop to clean. You can also use a broom handle with a cloth at the end. Its anti-static characteristics will clean and prevent dust from settling on the floor. Question: Installation instructions say "Do not install the PE over wooden subfloors." For Wooden/Plywood subfloors - what moisture barrier to use if any? Thanks.
Answer: Per the installation instructions, https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c... "Subfloor requirements Wicanders floating floors can be installed in most domestic areas and in almost all commercial areas except in bathrooms, saunas and persistently wet rooms. Wicanders Floating floors can be laid on top of most hard surfaces such as resilient floor coverings, wood flooring and ceramic tiles. Soft subfloors such as carpets, cushion backed vinyl, and similar must be removed. The subfloor must be even, flat, dry and variations should not exceed 3mm in 2m (1/8"in 61/2' feet). All type of concrete, wooden and ceramic surfaces must be completely dry". You may install it over plywood that is in good shape and level without any moisture barrier. A moisture barrier is required if using over concrete. Make sure to follow their instruction on the condition of the subfloor.
-
Question: I saw on the Amorim Wise website that they have a new collection of cork, Origem Capsule Collection, which is colorful! Do you know whether the Origem line might be carried here soon, and also whether it shares the waterproof nature of the other Amorim Wise products?
Answer: We have spoken to Amorim and confirmed that the Origem Collection is not stocked or available in the US and will not be any time soon, sorry.
-
Question: Do I need to seal newly installed (Floating cork floors) with polyurethane in addition to the pre-finished seal on the planks? Thanks.
Answer: If you are talking about one of the floating cork floors we sell, no, you do not need to apply any additional coatings as they all come prefinished. If you are talking about a floating cork floor we do not sell, read the installation instructions for that floor (they should spell out if you need to apply anything).
-
Question: I am considering cork planks in my midsouth home with a crawl space foundation. If I have a plywood subfloor, will I need to put down any underlayment or vapor barrier? I read about using a foam underlayment to help with any imperfections, but I wanted to collect more data about it.
Answer: Vapor barriers are required when Amorim Wise is floated over concrete, ceramic tile, or stone tile either on grade or below grade. Vapor barriers must be made of 6 mil polyethylene or foil (perm rating of .1 or less) - we recommend the product Moisture Block. Vapor barrier seams should be overlapped and taped with waterproof tape. Vapor barriers are not required when floated or glued over plywood, OSB, composite wood, Luxury Vinyl Tile, Vinyl Composition Tile, Wood Plastic Composite, Stone Plastic Composite, cork, or linoleum.
-
Question: Hi, are these products suitable to install over either DMX airflow, DMX 1 step, DryBarrier, or DriCore underlayments? I'm installing below grade and prefer one of the above. Thanks
Answer: All of these products seem to be moisture mitigating systems that would allow water to flow freely underneath, and none really mention being a vapor barrier which is what the Wicanders requirement is for use over concrete. If these companies can guarantee you in writing that their products are the equivalent of using a 6-mil vapor barrier, then it should work fine. If they don't, that just means you would have to put a 6-mil poly (like Moisture Block) over the top of the water mitigation system.
-
Question: If an animal had an accident on this floor, what would happen? I have experience with laminate flooring and with LVP and I have not had issues with those. Would it be permanently discolored?
Answer: If you are talking about urine... Urine is acidic, and over time it will compromise any floor and any floor finish. Pet accidents are best cleaned up immediately to minimize this kind of damage.
-
Question: How does the flooring hold up when moving heavy appliances in a kitchen or laundry room when you want to clean under them? Does the cork indent with the weight when moving?
Answer: The manufacturer suggests furniture pads under anything over 300 pounds to help toward denting. We would not suggest pushing furniture or appliances across the floor. Similar to hardwood, it can still be scratched. If this ever occurs, you can replace a plank if you have spare flooring from your installation. How to replace a plank: https://youtu.be/T27K2shvaVg
-
Question: Are any of your solid bamboo flooring vertical grain?
Answer: At this time we do not sell any vertical grain solid bamboo. We used to, but due to pandemic related issues some of our vendors went out of business.
-
Question: What sealant is best to waterproof between boards/around edges? I want to use the most green/low VOC sealant possible. I imagine I will use safecoat around the edges, I also imagine that caulk would look ugly between boards. What do you recommend? Will be floating over an old vinyl floor with asbestos glue we don't want to disturb.
Answer: The Waterproof Cork Look is already sealed so you do not need to add another sealant to it.
-
Question: Can you use this as a marine flooring on a boat? The IAQ, environmental and insulation properties are a plus. Boats are high moisture environments - can this work if you glue it down and seal the perimeter? Thanks!
Answer: None of the flooring we sell (including this one) is usable as marine flooring on a boat.
-
Question: Cork over wood subfloor. What type of under payment needed?
Answer: If you are installing Wicanders Cork GO over a wood subfloor or other wood flooring, you do not need any underlayment or moisture barrier.
-
Question: Does this product contain natural latex?
Answer: It contains no latex of any sort.
-
Question: Can cork planks be installed over ceramic tile? My grout lines are 1/4" and is all tight and in good condition
Answer: Here are the installation guidelines https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c... that tell you what condition the floor needs to be in to install over it. There, they state, "Floating Installation:On subfloors: Install on top of most hard, smooth surfaces including concrete, plywood, OSB subfloors. See subfloor requirements below.Over existing flooring: It can also be installed over existing flooring such as:? Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT),? Vinyl Composition Tile (LVT),? Stone Plastic Composite (SPC),? cork,? linoleum,? ceramic tiles.? provided these floor coverings are:?? securely adhered?? completely flat and level?? have no loose areas?? have no cushion attached.?? Amorim Wise cannot be applied over carpet or carpet tile. "
-
Question: I am interested in using cork flooring in a dental office is it a appropriate use?
Answer: Yes. Cork in a dentist's office sounds like a great idea. As this is a commercial space, for the waterproof cork we would recommend a glue-down installation.
-
Question: I'm trying to do a comparison of Amorim Wood Wise vs. LVP. Vinyl (and other flooring) describes the wear layer in mils. Like, 20mil wear layer. How does the HRT Protective Surface compare for depth of that coating (as the wear layer)?
Answer: Cork and Vinyl is apples and oranges. You can check out the technical data for the WISE floors (link below). The things you want is probably to look at is wear resistance, impact resistance, and castor chair resistance.https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c... For us, personally, there is no comparison. Vinyl is not a sustainable product, it off gasses, it's toxic, bad for people and bad for the planet. More on that here: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/L...

Question: Is Drybarrier an acceptable subfloor for this wood-like cork flooring material? If so, what underlayment would also be recommended? Planning to install in a concrete basement below grade. As of right now, moisture is no problem but we did have water infiltration one time after our sump pump malfunctioned (less than 1/8" water on the floor) so I'm trying to plan for the worst despite it not being the norm. Thank you!
Answer: Drybarrier looks to be a reasonably good product for your application. However, we are not in a position to approve or disapprove products from a legal warranty perspective. Only Amorim can do that. In general, Amorim WISE waterproof cork products require a rigid surface with as little deflection as possible. I was unable to see any information about this on their website other than it was flexible. If there is too much flex when walking, the planks may separate from one another. To be sure, please contact Amorim's technical support: csiflooringinspections@comcast.net

Question: Can I use cork tiles on a metal ceiling in my van conversion? If so, what underlayment would I use and how would I fasten it? Is there a bendable cork product that would work better in the vaulted van ceiling?
Answer: None of the cork flooring we sell can be used on van conversion ceilings. It's not warranted for such use.
-
Question: Do i need to sealcoat the waterproof cork flooring if used in a kitchen?
Answer: No. This floor comes prefinished and you do not need to add additional coatings when installing in a kitchen.
-
Question: How does the waterproof cork flooring do in dry climates? I live In the high desert and was told by a builder not to use cork due to the dry climate and extreme temperatures.
Answer: It all depends upon how well you control humidity in your home. 30-60% is required for all of our flooring products. If that is not possible, you should think about using ceramic tile.
-
Question: Do nova cork tiles include polyurethane?
Answer: Yes, Nova cork contains a water-based polyurethane finish
-
Question: I need to know where I can find the transition mouldings for tis floor? to put on the entry ways.. Also do you offer matching baseboards?
Answer: Per the notes on the product page, "Looking for molding to compliment your new floor? We recommend Versatrim compatible moldings, these can be purchased via Versatrim at 866-200-8132. ". Amorim deals directly with them for their waterproof cork moldings. We are not associated with Versatrim.

Question: I am going to put this in a very dry basement in the gym area over concrete (new construction). A treadmill will be on it. I prefer to do a floating installation for ease of removal. However, will the treadmill cause a problem with that type of installation? What underlayment would be best for me to use? I am planning on a vapor barrier at least.
Answer: Gym areas can go one way or the other. If there is excessive weight or activity/movement on the floor (basketball, running, zumba, free weights, cross-fit, aerobic, etc.), or potential for moisture (hot yoga) we would 100% recommend you glue the waterproof cork flooring down. A stationary treadmill (and that is it), you might be able to get away with just a floating installation, but we'd recommend you go the extra step to glue it down. If you decide to do a floating installation over concrete, a vapor barrier is required. We would recommend Moisture Block. Check out the installation guidelines for further info on optional underlayments: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
-
Question: Can Cork floors be installed over concrete?
Answer: Yes, as long as you use a vapor barrier beneath them. Our Moisture Block was made for that purpose.
-
Question: Is this 100% cork?
Answer: Yes, this specific glue-down cork floor has no wood in it.
-
Question: How large is your sample size? I want to make sure I have an accurate depiction of installation for my client.
Answer: Flooring samples for this line are 12" x 6"
-
Question: Does this require a vapor barrier?
Answer: It depends on what variety of sub floor you are installing over.According to the installation instructions:"Never install Wicanders floating floors without using a PE moisture barrier film with a minimum thickness of 0,2mm (6mil. Do not install the PE over wooden subfloors."We have the installation instructions on the product detail page under downloads. Direct link below for your convenience.https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...

Question: The specs say this product is recyclable. How do I recycle my leftovers?
Answer: There are a couple of ways to recycle the waterproof cork flooring. A. Check with your local recycling program to see if they take cork (some cities do, others do not). B. See if there is a reCork partner near your location, they gladly take cork scraps. https://recork.com/us/en/locations C. We have a zero-waste program, you can ship us scraps 6" or larger that we will recycle into flooring samples for our store. More details here: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/L...
-
Question: Does the HDF have any formaldehyde in it? Does the Acrylic varnish release any VOCs?
Answer: All wood naturally has some level of formaldehyde in it, what is important to look for is if flooring has any added urea formaldehyde contained, and the Cork GO products do not.As we say on the product detail page: " Natural Cork is manufactured with no harmful adhesives such as formaldehyde or isocyanates, and contains no VOCs in its finish. Wicander's Cork GO Collection is GreenGuard Children and Schools Indoor Air Quality Certified to ensure that it does not contribute to harmful odors in home or office. "
-
Question: Hi There,The finish is listed as poly, what does that mean, what is in a poly finish?
Answer: This is a durable UV-cured acrylic varnish (Poly). Zero VOC, GreenGuard Gold certified.
-
Question: could i lay-relay this as a temporary floor (three days or so) over a portion of an outdoor stone patio?
Answer: No. None of our floors can do this. All we sell are interior grade floors, and all need some kind of containing border to keep the individual planks from moving apart when walked upon.
-
Question: Can you use Swiffer Wet pads to clean these floors?
Answer: Yes as there is very little moisture on these pads. Bear in mind, the less moisture is better.
-
Question: How does cork handle weight on top of it? Looking for a light colored solution for a home gym on concrete and the cork is perfect! However, if there would be equipment on it, would it depress the cork vs rolled rubber flooring for example. Thank you!
Answer: Yes. To protect your floors you will want to either use some kind of mats or furniture pads. Cork is soft by nature, so it is susceptible to weight and sharp/hard edges that unpadded legs/equipment might have.
-
Question: How would this work as flooring for a Sprinter van upfit? It would be laid on top of 3/4" baltic birch with an insulating layer beneath the ply. Would this expand or contract the same way vinyl click flooring does at extreme temperatures (i.e. summer in the desert or winter in the mountains). Thanks!
Answer: Yep. Your spot on, the wood components on this floating floor would make this not recommended for a van installation; expansion, contraction, and inherent movement of the van structure, along with the heat and cool make it tough to find the flooring that will handle everything. We only have one recommendation for vans, and that is glue-down Marmoleum. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...
-
Question: Can I use quietwalk over vinyl/linoleum that is on top of a plywood subfloor or would this need to go directly on the vinyl?
Answer: You can use optional breathable underlayment such as QuietWalk over a vinyl/linoleum covered subfloor.
-
Question: Hello, a couple of years ago I ordered samples and liked the Nova New Dimensions Green Elba. My project got derailed by the pandemic and I see that you no longer have that available. Could you please let what the closest current product is?
Answer: The Elba Mocca is the only one left. They have nothing else that looks similar. Order a small sample online to see in person and compare.
-
Question: does the Wicander cork flooring warranty being applied only to original purchaser mean that I must purchase, not my builder contractor?
Answer: Yes.
-
Question: I have read that cork flooring does not do well in places where there are extremes in temperature. We would like to lay cork over a tile floor in Phoenix Arizona where there can be 30 degree changes in temperature in one day, and temps ranging from the 40 in the winter to 115 in the summer. Humidity is usually low - it is 17% today. Of course, our homes are AC/heat controlled, but failures can happen. Will cork floors work in this setting?
Answer: This new Waterproof Cork will be durable and can be placed in your type of climate. Installing the floor as a glue-down would prevent any movement. You may also float the floor and leave the recommended expansion gap around the perimeter.
-
Question: I see the Greenguard Gold certification was good through September 2020. Is there an updated certificate that could be posted?
Answer: An updated certificate has been posted.
-
Question: Can be used on ceiling of bus for insulation? R-value?
Answer: While Nova Cork flooring does have an R-value of about 1.5 it is was designed for flooring. Attaching to the ceiling is very challenging due to the weight and clicking mechanism. A better solution would be 1/4 cork underlayment which comes in rolls. It would need to be fastened to the ceiling with screws as there is no adhesive we know of that will hold it up.
-
Question: Can I order a transition piece for this option?
Answer: WaterProof cork is so dimensionally stable that it can be installed in very large areas, up to 3,229 square feet (56 x 56 feet), without transition strips. So unless you have a very large area you can probably get by without transition strips. That said, we can put you in contact with a molding provider Versatrim. who can set you up with complimentary colored transition strips. https://772072.app.netsuite.com/core/...
-
Question: Is this appropriate for a walkout basement (so part on-grade and part below) where summer/fall humidity is often 70 - 80+% and the windows are open?
Answer: According to the installation instructions, it states to keep it at a temperature from 65 degrees F to 82 degrees F and relative humidity range from 35% to 65%. So, if you have air conditioning in that space in that time of year to help with that and keep it in that range, that will be helpful.
-
Question: Can you please explain how it is carbon negative?
Answer: "In the Life Cycle Assessment* process, all stages of the product's life were analyzed: spanning forest management activities, cork crushing, transportation, and the industrial process. All the products analyzed have a negative carbon balance."* The life cycle assessment, which was conducted in 2019 and 2020, was based on a cradle-to-gate approach, i.e. contemplating all environmental impacts up to the factory gate. The assessment also included additional information on the carbon sequestration of the cork oak forest. The methodology of the EY studies was based on the ISO 14040/44 (ISO, 2006) standards, complemented with guidelines from the Handbook - General Guide for Life Cycle Assessment - Detailed guidance (EC-JRC, 2010), and the International Reference Life Cycle Data System (ILCD). The production data was provided by Amorim Cork Composites, while data on the general production processes associated with the production of raw materials, energy, transport and waste management was obtained from the ecoinvent 3.5 database (Werner, et al., 2016).You can go into more detail on the Amorim website (link below)https://amorimcorkcomposites.com/en-u...

Question: Your specifications say the Wicanders Cork GO, has a beveled edge. But the samples I got, Whim and Charm, are not beveled and the Wicanders website says it is not beveled. I suspect this product does not have a beveled edge. Are your listed specifications a mistake? I would prefer that it not have a beveled edge.
Answer: Yes, our online specs were wrong in this case. This is a non-beveled or square edge floor. Thank you for pointing out our error, we will correct this.
-
Question: How do they get the wood grain look? Is it printed on? Does it last or fade away?
Answer: It is 3D printed and then covered with a PET coating to protect it.
-
Question: What is the rating for NRC of this product? I only see values for STC and IIC. Thanks!
Answer: It's not been tested/rated for NRC (noise reduction coefficient). We've only got the records of what the floor has been tested for, which DO include the sound values for Airborne sound transmission loss, Impact sound transmission, and Impact sound reduction.https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
-

-
Question: Can it be used outdoors in the sun under a swing set?
Answer: No. We sell no exterior grade cork.
-
Question: Can you steam the waterproof cork flooring?
Answer: Yes, a steam mop can be used by a VERY conscious and cautious adult. The potential issue with a steam mop is that someone might hold the tip too close to the surface for too long and damage the finish. Or spraying too much moisture into the seams might cause water to penetrate through to the subfloor and eventually cause mold. Usually, the less moisture the better when it comes to all types of flooring.Routine sweeping with a dust mop or Swiffer type every week and occasionally damp mopping with minimal water is all that is necessary to maintain this floor.
-
Question: How does waterproof cork hold up as entrance way flooring? Is it damaged by grit and salt walked in from city streets?
Answer: The waterproof cork is like any other floor with regard to yes, if exposed to grit, dirt and salt it will wear the floor down. This is best prevented by having a doormat that is used when you come in from outside. Wipe your feet before moving on to the inside of the house, or better yet, take off your shoes. Your floor will last longer.
-
Question: I just installed the "Moment" flooring in my kitchen. Do I need to seal it with a polyurethane coat?
Answer: Cork GO Moment, like the rest of the Cork GO line, is pre-finished with UV-cured acrylic varnish. You do not need to seal it after installation.
-
Question: we are thinking of using the waterproof cork flooring on our ceiling in a campervan that we are building out. We would use a horizontal layout instead of a vertical layout. Is there any give in this product?
Answer: The waterproof cork would not be warranted for a ceiling or wall install. This is a glue-down product, and technically not advised/warranted for RV's or camper vans due to the wide differential in temperatures and the flexing in the floor and walls which would compromise the locking mechanism and the adhesive bond.A better product would be Marmoleum Sheet Glue-Down Goods, which have a history of van installs.https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...
-
Question: Can this flooring be installed in a class b RV or a cargo van?
Answer: No. More appropriate for RV floors would be Forbo marmoleum glue down sheet goods. This product has been used on everything from battleship decks to ambulance floors to a wide range of customer RV remodels. Have a look at all those options here: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...
-
Question: How wide Is roll of sheet marmoleum?
Answer: Forbo Marmoleum Sheet Products are sold by the Square Yard. They are 79" wide, edge to edge.
-
Question: Will this flooring hold up to a 150lb Newfoundland dog running across it?
Answer: Dogs' toenails are one of the hardest things on floors as they're "sharp".? Even if well cut and manicured, they are still sharp little objects going constantly over a floor.? If you have smaller dogs, it'll be much easier on a floor than larger, heavier dogs.? But in the end, dog nails are just rough on the floor and you will see marks and wear on the finish through time.? About the only floor you won't see that on is porcelain tile or concrete.? So, as long as that awareness is there and you know you will indeed see wear heavier in those areas because of the weight of the dog and its nails, you may certainly use the waterproof cork. First order the sample 10 day rental boxes online to see colors in person before ordering your final floors as nothing looks on a computer screen as it does in reality.

Question: The finish says Poly, but does that mean pre-finished with poly or that after installation we will need to apply poly?
Answer: The Cork GO is pre-finished, so you do not need to add anything to the surface after you install.
-
Question: I really like Whim. But does it have lots of indentions that can catch dirt?
Answer: Whim has a durable UV-cured acrylic varnish with a matte finish. It is best to order a small sample online first to see in person to know what it will really look and feel like in actuality.
-
Question: We live in the Fort Myers FL area. Does anyone carry this locally, so we can see in person and bring a sample to our home?
Answer: For this flooring (Amorim Waterproof Cork Wood Look), we have a sample box rental program where we priority mail you a box of samples that you can look at in your own home. Once you've decided on your floor, you ship the samples back to us using the pre-paid mailing label and receive a coupon code for $25 off your future flooring purchase. We have a wood look light and wood look dark sample box, each comes with 10 samples so you can pick the color to best go with your home's decor and lighting conditions.

Question: The amorim wise website mentions it is fine over hydronic radiant heated concrete subfloor and mentions nothing about needing to glue down this product. What is correct? Thanks
Answer: The installation guidelines have evolved since they first came out two years ago and the most current version is now on our website. It is Amorim's current view that wherever there is excessive heat or moisture or traffic, the waterproof cork should be glued down with the appropriate adhesive.
-
Question: Can this product be used in an underground basement?
Answer: Absolutely. Amorim Wise Waterproof cork flooring must be applied over a flat, smooth, stable subfloor that is clean, dry, and neutral pH (7-9) - beyond that it can be installed above, at, or below ground level. Please have a look at the Installation Guidelines for more details, located in the downloads section of the product detail pages, direct link is included below for your convenience. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...

Question: Can this floor be restained? And/or what is the best way to handle scratches.
Answer: Light scratches can be repaired with tool kits made by Loba-Wakol, Novority, Unika, and Dr. Schultz. Deep gouges can be repaired with wood patching compounds or putty. However, serious damages will usually require replacement of the panel (it's good to have an extra box of flooring for this purpose).Instructions for panel replacement can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EShdK... We would not recommend restaining.
-
Question: Can this Waterproof Cork flooring be installed over old, glued down cork flooring without a vapor barrier between the two floors?
Answer: You do not need a vapor barrier if you are floating or gluing this waterproof cork floor over your older glued down cork floor. The only requirement is that your older cork floor be flat. From the Installation Guidelines:"Whether floated or glued down, Amorim Wise cork flooring must be applied over a flat, smooth, stable subfloor that is clean, dry, and neutral pH (7-9) in accordance with National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) guidelines (https://www.nwfc.net/documents.html). Subfloor flatness should have no vertical deflection: not to exceed 3/16 in a 6' span. Any deflection should be either smoothed with a patching or leveling compound (such as Ardex brand) or ground/sanded down mechanically.Installation Guidelines are located on the PDP page under "Downloads" - direct link below for your convenience. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...

-
Question: When installing glue down Amorin WISE tiles in a kitchen, should the tiles be installed under appliances, e.g. refrigerator, range, and dishwasher, or should it be installed around the appliances to allow for expansion?
Answer: Wise can be installed under stoves and refrigerators. The key is to protect the flooring if the appliances need to be pulled out. If Wise is floated it is not recommended under cabinets. If Wise is glued down it can be installed under cabinets.
-
Question: I would like to find some light white/cream AFM SafeCoat paint to go with the Quartz Oak Waterproof Cork flooring we are planning on ordering, Could you please recommend some colors?
Answer: We cannot recommend colors. We are not an interior design firm and complementary color selection and matching is entirely subjective. What we can do is sell you an AFM swatch book and you can make your own selection.
-
Question: How soft the cork planks surface? Is it easily to be dent like marmoleum floor?
Answer: Wicanders Cork Go is a resilient floor and is slightly softer than Marmoleum. However, it had several coats of UV cured acrylic/urethane which provides excellent moisture and abrasion resistance to most residential and light commercial traffic. Cork is different from Marmoleum because it has a memory. That means it can dent today but rebound tomorrow. The manufacturer recommends spacers or felt pads underneath the feet of furniture to spread the load and reduce potential damage.
-
Question: How do you intersect with a stair nosing? I have 15' of open stairwell to nose.
Answer: When it comes to moldings for cork flooring, like stair nosing, the manufacturers do not make matching moldings that connect to their flooring products. There are some 3rd party companies that will produce matching moldings to order though. The moldings will not have the click connector system like the flooring planks, so they will need to be glued, or nailed and glued to the step for installation. We suggest Versatrim.com as an outlet to have the moldings produced. We do not retail their products, so you would need to contact them directly or have a contractor order for you.

Question: Can this be installed as a floating floor even if it goes underneath the refrigerator and range?
Answer: Direct wording from Amorim states, "Wise can be installed under stoves and refrigerators. The key is to protect the flooring if the appliances need to be pulled out. If Wise is floated, it is not recommended under cabinets. If Wise is glued down it can be installed under cabinets."
-
Question: Can you do a floating installation under a refrigerator and range?
Answer: Direct wording from Amorim states, "Wise can be installed under stoves and refrigerators. The key is to protect the flooring if the appliances need to be pulled out. If Wise is floated, it is not recommended under cabinets. If Wise is glued down it can be installed under cabinets."
-
Question: Can I install a cork floor over laminate or vinyl? How would I do this? Thanks!
Answer: Yes. An important first step is to read (or have your installer read) the directions of the floor you plan to purchase. These will always include details as to how to install over particular subfloors or existing flooring. In the case of the Waterproof Cork, we also have an installation guidelines document. This is located on the product detail page, to the right of the main product description, under "Downloads" - direct link included below for your convenience.https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...

Question: Hi there. I am a massage therapist and wondering if my massage table legs would damage these floors? Thank you.
Answer: We always recommend furniture pads/furniture sliders under the feet of furniture to help maximize the life of your floor. This advice is applicable to any floor.
-
Question: HOW DO YOU DETERMINE IF FLOATING OR GLUE DOWN IS BEST?
Answer: In general terms, floating installs quicker and is a more manageable Do-It-Yourself (DIY) project, perfect for rooms above grade where there is NOT a lot of moisture, heat, or rough traffic and movement on the floors. Glue-down installation is for rooms that do have a lot of moisture, heat, and rough traffic and is also a must for below-grade installation on concrete slabs (i.e. basements). Glue down also involves more tools and set-up so it's a more advanced DIY level project or something to use outside contractors for.More details can be gleaned from the installation guidelines : https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
-
Question: ? if you are doing a floating Installation can you install it under the kitchen cabinets ?
Answer: Forbo recommends that items such as cabinets or islands should have the click Cinch Loc tiles installed up to, but not underneath, them.

Question: I love, love, love this waterproof cork. Unfortunately someone dropped something really sharp on it and there is a tiny gouge in the surface--not even a divot, just a tiny bit of the surface was shaved off. What's the best product or method for repairing this? Color is Fashionable Grafite. If it were dark black I'd use a Sharpie, but this is a dark, soft gray.
Answer: We are happy to hear you are loving the Waterproof Cork! One option is to color in the marking with a wax or ink pen similar to how they repair hardwood floors. It would be best to test the color before directly applying it. If your floor has been floated, the second option is to replace the plank. That is a quick fix but a permanent solution as you would need to glue down the new plank. On the product page, there will be a video instructing how to replace it. repair video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T27K2...

Question: What is best flooring in your collection for keeping clean, but that is not tile? We want something warm on bare feet without heating the floors. :)
Answer: Our hardwood, bamboo, cork and linoleum all clean about the same, i.e. with very little water and a damp mop. When it comes to warmth on bare feet, cork takes first prize, then Marmoleum, then hardwood and bamboo. Cork has a higher R-value and is a better thermal and acoustical insulator than the other types. Compared to ceramic or porcelain tile, they are night and day apart. But compared to one another, the differences are minimal. We offer two types of cork flooring: traditional and waterproof. Both have the same insulating properties. Our Amorim waterproof cork is ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, basements etc. The traditional cork floors are water-resistant but excessive moisture can cause issues. If there is no excessive moisture in your room such as: bedrooms, rec rooms, living or dining, then there is no real need for a waterproof floor. Traditional cork flooring has a built in cork underlayment which adds warmth to the floor.

Question: Could you send us a copy of the the limited lifetime warranty for the cork flooring? Specs say to refer to warranty but I don't see it on the site. Thanks.
Answer: The warranty is located under the downloads section on the product detail page. Direct link included directly below for your convenience.https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...

Question: How do you dispose of scraps?
Answer: Cork scraps can be recycled (if your local recycling facility is set up to take cork) or otherwise thrown out with your regular trash. This product is biodegradable.
-
Question: (Not really a question?) Sample boxes vs colors seen on computer: I have heard on this site and many others that the colors do not match the Website. This is usually used as a criticism. The color discrepancy comes from the settings on your computer and the Website. Those two will never match. Every computer is different when it comes to color. Also, you are dealing with light on your computer. It will always make colors and other items look different than in real life. THIS is why it is SO important to get the the boxes of samples; so you can see what the product REALLY looks like. Three cheers for GBS for providing the SAMPLES in a box.
Answer: Preach! It's all true. Another thing is ordering samples allows you to see the real product, in your own home, under your own ambient lighting conditions. Nothing replaces seeing the real thing in the real environment it will be installed in. Thank you for your kind words.
-
Question: I live in an area that is extra humid. Is there anything I can do, an extra or different underlay, that will help? I cannot always control the humidity. Thanks.
Answer: In extreme environments, it's best to glue this product down with our DriTac 7700. No underlayment will be needed.
-
Question: We have USFloors ebro cork throughout our house, which is now discontinued. It is 12x36 floating CorkLoc planks. We have to replace the cork in our powder room due to a leak. Do you know if this will lock into our current cork as a replacement?
Answer: We sell nothing that will click into that Ebro cork as companies all have their own clicking system that doesn't click to someone else's system.
-
Question: Can I purchase a sample of just a couple colors that I may keep?
Answer: We do not sell individual samples of the Amorim Wise Waterproof Cork product. If you are interested in obtaining individual samples you can keep, you can do that through Amorim. For Cork Look products go to this page, https://www.amorimwise.us/products/co... Wood Look products go to this page, https://www.amorimwise.us/products/wo... you mouse hover over the floor you like, a "Sample" option is presented, you can click on that and Amorim will ask for your info so a keeper sample can get shipped to you.

Question: I suppose it is not biodegradable?
Answer: It is recyclable and biodegradable, yes.

Question: I'm replacing my flooring in my RV. I'm looking for a product that is freeze/thaw stable. I've read a lot about movement of LVT and VCT and am not impressed. How would your cork floors handle the freeze thaw? Do you have a more appropriate product? Thanks,
Answer: More appropriate for RV floors would be Forbo marmoleum glue down sheet goods. This product has been used on everything from battleship decks to ambulance floors to a wide range of customer RV remodels. Have a look at all those options here : https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...

Question: I don't think I received a coupon. (?)
Answer: Your coupon code is your order #, so provided you received the order of the sustainable sample box rental, you did receive a coupon code as well.

Question: Hi! I read about the presence of 1-methyl 2-pyrrolidinone in the greenguard certification sheet which may cause reproductive harm. Is it present in the PET stain/finish in the wood cork flooring? Also, what are the ingredients of SRT finish? We will be installing cork floor by removing the old carpets. Do we need an underlayment?
Answer: There is no NMP in PET finish. Amorim has several Indoor Air Quality certificates, that certify that no harmful particles are present in their flooring products. While the UL GreenGuard standard may allow it doesn't mean that it is used in the finish. The European certifications have standards that do not allow it and Amorim's waterproof products comply with these highest standards. See the downloadable pdfs on our website for more details
-
Question: Hi! I was going through the Amorim waterproof cork sheet which describes about uv acrylic. Could you please provide the detail msds sheet for amorim waterproof PET too?
Answer: No, because OSHA only requires SDS sheets for hazardous products or chemicals. PET is the non-toxic, food safe plastic used to make water bottles. PET is used as the finish for the Amorim Waterproof Cork. It is molded into a wood grain pattern to give the flooring a realistic look and feel.

Question: The installation guide recommends a glue-down installation in high-moisture situations and areas that get direct sunlight. I'm hoping to install this in a kitchen with a skylight, however there's already a glue down cork floor in the room (solid, fairly level, but surface is beyond repair). Can I install this cork floor as a glue-down on top of the existing cork floor? Or is it ok to float? If yes to gluing, what adhesive is best? Thanks!
Answer: Glue down applications must be to a solid stable surface that is perfectly flat. You will need to make that judgment call. Otherwise, floating is always possible. The manufacturer recommends gluing whenever there is excessive moisture, excessive heat or excessive traffic. That means kids and dogs, tenants, and you get the idea. If it's just you and your partner, floating is fine. DriTac 7700 adhesive is what we offer although there are other options recommended in the installation guidelines. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
-
Question: Could this be installed in a checker pattern?
Answer: Checker patterns require 12x12 dimensions. This is 7 1/2 x 48" and therefore cannot be installed in a checkerboard. Look at our Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc or MCT or Modular tiles which can all be installed as checkerboard.

Question: I'm debating between Cork Go, Cork Essence and CorkWISE. A big reason I'd like to try cork is that I deal with chronic lower leg and foot pain. Are there differences in how soft to the foot one of these is compared to the others? For example, does the waterproof-ness of the WISE make it harder to stand on than Go? Is Essence harder than Go or about the same? Will Go last as long as the others? Thank you!
Answer: Hi, I have 30 years of experience taking care of people with mobility impairments. The cork floors that we carry that I recommend to people with lower leg and foot pain, or who are at risk for falls, are our traditional cork floors, such as Wicanders Cork Go and Nova Cork. I can't comment on the Wicanders Cork Essence floors because we don't carry them.Yes, the Waterproof Cork CorkWISE floors are harder than traditional cork floors.Traditional cork floors like the Wicanders Cork Go and Nova Cork can last for decades, if cared for properly. Sweep or damp mop, instead of wet mopping. Wipe up spills promptly. The seams are tight, but if water seeps in, it could swell up the core of high density fiberboard. Put felt pads and rubber tips on chairs. Don't scrape things across the floor. With those simple tips, your traditional cork floor will give you many years of comfort and beauty.
-
Question: I am interested in ordering two boxes of "moment" cork flooring. Today is May 17, your website says this product is backordered till March. Is that March ??22? How long is the delivery wait if that is not the case?
Answer: The cork products we sell has been very very popular (flying off the shelves). I confirmed as of today the Cork Go Moment is backordered until the beginning of June 2021. Once it's back in stock, delivery would be between 1.5-2 weeks depending on where you live in relation to the warehouse.
-
Question: Can you use electric radiant heat with Cork Go, Cork Essence and/or CorkWISE products?
Answer: Electric radiant heat can be used beneath the Cork Go and Essence. However, it is not recommended for the waterproof Wise products. Only hydronic radiant heat embedded in concrete is allowed for the WISE. Please refer to the installation guidelines for reach product located on the right margin as a downloadable pdf.
-

Question: Can this flooring be removed and reinstalled elsewhere? (If i move)
Answer: If you install it as a floating floor (as opposed to a glue down installation) then yes, you could theoretically carefully unclick the planks and move the floor to another room, another home, etc.
-
Question: How would you recommend installing cork as stair treads?
Answer: You would have to glue it down on stairs.
-
Question: could you use this on walls?
Answer: This is glue-down or floating flooring, it would absolutely not be warranted for vertical/wall or nail down installation.
-
Question: Any issues with the edges crumbling? The installation says to use at least 1/4" expansion gaps. Has anyone found that more is needed?
Answer: We've not heard from any customers that more than 1/4" is needed. If your space is no larger than 3,500 SF that should be all that is necessary. Per your other question, for as long as we have been selling this floor, there has been no complaints of crumbling edges.
-
Question: Since it is waterproof, would it be safe to steam mop this floor? I saw another question touched on this but the answer did not give a straight yes or no on whether steam mopping would damage it.
Answer: No. Steam mopping is not advised on cork flooring or waterproof cork flooring.
-
Question: Does the Wicanders Cork GO cork need a sealer applied after installation to improve surface durability? If so what do you recommend?
Answer: Nope. This is ready to go right out of the box, factory sealed as part of the manufacturing process.
-
Question: If I install over this over laminate, will I truly be making my home less toxic, or will the toxins from the laminate seep through?
Answer: This is a question we get all the time.If your laminate floors are off-gassing, this process will honestly continue to happen regardless if you cover them up, or coat or cover the top surface with something. Because they are there, and going to do their thing, until they are done. If they can no longer off-gas upward, they will off-gas from the sides and downward, and that off-gassing will seep back into your airspace. If you liken a home to a biological body, laminate is toxic and will continue to be toxic for the rest of the body the longer it is contained within it.That said, however, there are some things that can affect how much/often off-gassing occurs. For example heat and sunlight can be two big factors, if the laminate floor gets no light and has a layer of insulation (i.e. another floor installed above it) that prevents it from getting too warm, that can help cut down on off-gassing. Not eliminate, but cut down. Less off-gassing *could* mean you are making your home less-toxic. Continuing with the body analogy, if the goal is the healthiest body possible, wouldn't you do everything you could to remove the toxic influences? Stay away from junk food, cigarette smoke, things that make that body sick. If you can, we strongly recommend you remove the laminate before installing this floor, that is the healthiest/cleanest stride toward a less-toxic home.
-
Question: How many SQ ft does one box cover?
Answer: One box of the waterproof cork wood look covers 20.04 Square Feet. When calculating how much you need, we recommend you order 10% more to cover overage, installation mistakes, cutting and non-square areas.
-
Question: What carriers do you use for delivery of the samples?
Answer: USPS.
-
Question: Is Underlayment necessary?
Answer: Per the installation instructions, vapor barriers are required when Amorim Wise is floated over concrete, ceramic tile, or stone tile either on grade or below grade. You may use MP Global Moisture Block or MP Global Quietwalk Plus, in these cases over concrete, etc.
-
Question: How do you clean this flooring?
Answer: Per the verbiage on the product page, "Easy maintenance - use neutral pH cleaners just like on hardwood ". You may use the AFM SafeChoice, Multi-Purpose Cleaner and Degreaser or the Core Products, HydrOxi Pro Concentrated Cleaner, as well.
-
Question: Can the Amorim waterproof cork - wood look flooring be floated on stairs or does it need to be glued? I don't see any instructions for stair installation.
Answer: You will want to glue it when using it on stairs. They do not give any particular instructions for stairs, but here are their glue down instructions. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
-
Question: Are there raised ridges on these cork planks? I have the wood look cork floor samples now and don't like that it is not completely smooth surface. I'm wondering if these are smooth because they are not attempting to look like wood.
Answer: The waterproof cork with the wood look has an embossed surface that is not perfectly smooth. The cork looking products are not embossed and are smoother in feel. They are both anti-slip surfaces but in different ways.
-
Question: size of actual pieces, not the sample?
Answer: At full size the boards measure 48.23" x 7.48" and are 0.28" thick. There is 20.04 Square Feet (8 boards) in each box. These measurements are true of both the Cork Look and Wood Look Waterproof Flooring.
-
Question: We are looking for a green flooring material to use in a bathroom with electric radiant heat over a wood subfloor. What do you carry?
Answer: Sorry, we don't have any product ideal for bathrooms that will work over radiant unless it is embedded in concrete.
-
Question: I am looking to put down cork in my attic space that will serve as my yoga/meditation space and have a few questions:1) Is underlayment recommended if cork is going over plywood?2) Do you currently have the Wicanders Whim Go Cork in stock? I'd need about 500sf.3) I'm also looking at icork's 12mm natural cork floor (3mm top cork layer over 6mm hdf over 3mm cork underlayment). I like the Wicanders name but like the thicker product. Any comments on this?
Answer: 1) no2) As of last Friday there were 46 boxes left in the CA warehouse. More to arrive on April 26th and May 13) Thickness does not equate with quality or comfort. Density is key. Also, Amorim makes 80% of all the cork products in the world. They use only non-toxic adhesives and finishes. We've had zero warranty claims over the past 15 years with their products.

Question: Hello, I live in a high-rise condo and the HOA requires that the subfloor and flooring meet this class rating, does the waterproof cork flooring and subflooring meet this requirement? "The underlayment must achieve the floor assembly to yield a field "Impact Insulation Class" rating of at least fifty five (55) when tested according to the American Society of Testing Materials Designation E-1007-84 ("Field Measurement of Tapping Machine Impact Sound Transmission Through Floor-Ceiling Assemblies and Associated Support Structures'), and with classification to be in accordance to ASTM designation E-989-84 ("Determination of Impact Insulation Class")."
Answer: Your quotation and question here talks about subfloor and underlayment, which is something other than the floor that goes on top (if I understand correctly). That said, the technical data sheets for these floors is included in the downloads section, which is just to the right of the product write up on the product detail page. Links included below for your convenience. I note no exact matches with the American Society of Testing Materials Designation (ASTM) E-1007-84 - through several ASTM numbers are listed here. Again, your quote talks about underlayment, and this is flooring. Water Proof Cork Wood Look Technical Data Sheet:https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c... Question: Must the floor be dried after damp mop cleaning?
Answer: That is entirely dependent on what actual cleaner you are using and how wet your mop is. Damp mopping (in our view) is barely wet at all. Any time you mop, you want to make certain your mop is barely damp and not wet. Barely damp mops will clean and pick up the dirt while wet mops move the dirt around and don't really clean. Also, too much water can end up ruining floors over time.If your cleaner's directions call for the floor to be physically dried, then there is probably a reason for that.
-
Question: I unfortunately scratched my new flooring by forgetting to put felt pads on one chair that I moved around a lot. Is there any way to "rub out" or repair light scratches?
Answer: Waterproof Cork is unable to be sanded down to fix scratches. The best solution to repairing the floor would be to cut out the damaged plank and replace it with a new plank. It is a quick process. Here is a repair guide: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
-
Question: Planning a kitchen install. My original floor is wall to wall, including under cabinets, appears to be Armstrong linoleum sheet flooring. As I plan to remove the cabinets to have them re-finished, I would like to do another wall to wall installation. I understand a floating floor does not lend itself to be placed under fixed furnishings. While I have seen reference to installing this floor as a floating floor over linoleum, can this product be installed as a glue-down directly over the original linoleum, assuming it is flat, smooth, and sound, or will I need to go down to the original subfloor if I am planning a wall to wall glue-down installation? I have read the standard and glue-down installation guides and do not see a clear answer.
Answer: Wall to wall installation would be just fine, and under cabinets and appliances are just fine provided the linoleum you are going over is flat and stable, and you do a glue-down installation.
-
Question: Can this product be finished with Polyurethane? We are trying to closely match our 1956 Cork floors.
Answer: Nova glue down tiles are finished with an oil wax finish. This is incompatible with water-based polyurethanes. It is unlikely that an older tile has a poly finish unless it was stripped and sanded. If so, you would have to do the same to the new cork floor.
-
Question: Do all Waterproof Cork Flooring - Wood Look products have an embossed wood grain finish and texture?
Answer: Yes, correct, they all do.
-
Question: Can I obtain a sample of the Mountain Oak?
Answer: We do not sell single samples of any of the waterproof cork products. If you are interested in just a single sample, you can get them through Amorim. Go to https://www.amorimwise.us/products and if you hover your cursor over the floor you want to get a sample of there will be a link made visible to order a sample direct from the manufacturer. If you are interested in receiving a sustainable sample box rental from us, which comes complete with 10 samples and a $25 coupon code you can use in a future flooring order and a return ship label once you are done with the rental period, that is an option as well. Mountain Oak is included in the Wood Look Light Sample Box.
-
Question: what is the lead time for orders?
Answer: If Nova has warehouse inventory available they generally can ship out in the same week an order is placed. If a style is on backorder and there is no warehouse inventory that can take longer. As of the time of this writing Comprido Cherry & Natural are on backorder until early April, and Comprido Sand is on backorder until late June.We are happy to check stock levels for you, just give us a call at 888-727-2101 and let us know the brand, style/color and square footage you are looking for and we can look into it for you.
-
Question: we have a large studio with concrete floor but do not want to cover the whole thing - more like a 12x16' foot area so wonder if there is a strategy for edging such that there is not a right angle lip?
Answer: It's called an Overlap Reducer molding. But we would recommend going with a different floor, as the Cork GO floor is nearly 1/2" thick, so even with an overlap reducer, you would probably be perpetually tripping or scuffing that edge between your bare concrete and the Cork GO.Better suited would be a thin glue-down floor, such as Marmoleum Glue down sheet or tile (links below), which is more in the ballpark of 0.1"tall. This would mean less tripping and scuffing. You will still need an overlap reducer (your floor cannot have any raw edge) but it would be much more subtle.Marmoleum Glue Down Sheet: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A... Marmoleum Glue Down Tile: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...
-
Question: How do you maintain the cork floor? Vacum? Swiffer? Mop?
Answer: For Nova Cork Floors simply sweep or vacuum your floor frequently in order to avoid dirt build up, which may scratch the finish. Do not use any abrasive or aggressive cleaners or solvents that contain glycerin, as these will attack the surface and could make refinishing impossible. Simply sweep and mop with a well wrung-out sponge with neutral detergent (pH of 6 to 8, we recommend AFM SafeChoice Multi-Purpose Cleaner and Degreaser) or cleaners that mist over the surface and damp mop up as you go. You can also use 4 parts of water to a 1-part vinegar. It is not a good idea to use the old bucket-and-mop method.

Question: If installing Wicanders, Whim - Cork GO on a plywood subfloor, laid over an encapsulated crawl space, is a moisture barrier under the cork floor unnecessary? Thanks.
Answer: Not needed according to the manufacturer.
-
Question: Does cork flooring require underlayment?
Answer: No, but it does require a vapor barrier over concrete subfloors.Optionally, 1/8" breathable underlayments made of cork or our QuietWalk Plus are acceptable over wood or concrete, but not required.
-
Question: Is this a waterproof cork?
Answer: No. Waterproof cork flooring is located elsewhere on the website (link below) the Nova Cork Flooring is traditional cork flooring, with a wood core. Waterproof Cork : https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...
-
Question: Can you get a finish for this other than recycled PET? I would prefer a non-plastic finish.
Answer: The Amorim waterproof cork in the cork look has a UV cured acrylic urethane finish that is not PET. It is just as durable and carries the same warranty. The different is that it is repairable, i.e. can be refinished with a polyurethane finish as needed after much wear and tear.
-
Question: Are there cork tiles suitable for walls, particularly as backboard for a dartboard?
Answer: This is cork flooring made for floors, a completely different situation than wall application. So... no.
-
Question: Is Novacork lighter weight than traditional hard woods?
Answer: While cork as a general rule is less heavy and less dense than hardwood, a lot of cork flooring (including Nova Cork) contains MDF/wood cores which makes cork flooring roughly the same weight per square foot +/- as hardwood floors. If you want lighter cork floor options, check out the waterproof cork flooring, which contains no wood at all.

Question: Are there any adhesives used in the construct of the actual cork flooring? Not looking for a glue to install but wondering if there are adhesives in the cork floor panels?
Answer: Yes, there are non-toxic adhesives within. We can't disclose what those are, but the product has zero VOC, zero PVC, zero phthalates, zero added formaldehyde, zero isocyanates and it is nationally and internationally certified: GreenGuard Gold, TuvPROFI Premium, Blue Angel, A+ French cert, Global GreenTagCertM, EPD third party.
-
Question: Does Wicanders Go cork contain any aluminum?
Answer: The product contains zero aluminum. There is no aluminum oxide in the finish. Cork Go is classified as a UV cured varnish with no off gassing and is Greenguard Gold Certified.
-
Question: Do you have a video for replacing/repairing the glue down cork flooring?
Answer: We have a general replace/repair video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=PL... the video example shows a floating floor, but glue down floor repair would work more or less the same, just with the added complication of removing the glued down portion of the floor and adhesive beneath. Depending on the subfloor you are going over this can be achieved through chiseling and possibly including some kind of mastic remover to pull up enough of the dried glue so you can get fresh adhesive beneath your new replacement plank.
-
Question: Can this cork flooring be installed on a bathroom floor?
Answer: Yes. This flooring will work in any room of your home, including the bathroom.
-
Question: Where is this product manufactured?
Answer: Portugal.
-
Question: Does the waterproof cork have a slick or slightly textured surface? I am trying to replace the adhered cork tiles in my kitchen that had a slight texture and we're not slippery when wet.
Answer: The waterproof cork, cork look does not have a textured surface. If it is texture you are after, check out the waterproof cork, wood look, which has a wood grain feel embossed into the surface.
-
Question: I want in my bathroom but am hesitant due to the chance of water seeping into seems and getting moldy or warping the material, esp since it is a layered veneer. (I am also concerned about pipes bursting now that I just survived this TX ice storm and am afraid the cork would be ruined whereas my current tile os holding up well). Will you please speak to this?
Answer: People are installing Waterproof Cork flooring in every room in the house. It is waterproof from the top down, so it's recommended that you use a moisture barrier underlayment like Quietwalk Plus. Keep in mind that cork, in its natural properties is a mold and mildew inhibitor so, with that extra protection, the likelihood of mold and mildew is greatly reduced.
-
Question: does the cork flooring have to acclimate to the space it is being applied before installation?
Answer: The installation instructions are pretty clear on this point. These are located on the product detail page to the right of the product details in the download section (link included below for your convenience."Transport and store the cartons horizontally. Unopened cartons should be acclimated at the job site in a dry, well-ventilated area for a MINIMUM OF 24 HOURS. Remove planks from packages just before starting the installation. During storage and installation, maintain temperature and relative humidity to a level consistent with the conditions which will prevail when the building is occupied. In most cases, this means maintaining a temperature range from 65 degrees F to 82 degrees F (18 degrees C to 28 degrees C) and relative humidity range from 35% to 65%. Use heating or air conditioning to control temperature and humidity before starting installation..."https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...

Question: My dining room is connected to the hallway that leads to the bedrooms. I'd like to put waterproof cork in both areas. If the dining room plus the hallway is more than 60 feet long, do I need to use transition strips? Or do I count the length of the hallway and the dining room separately?
Answer: Transition strips are needed whenever there is a continuous application of Waterproof cork > 60 lineal feet. The floor doesn't know whether it's a hall or a bedroom, it's the total overall length that matters.
-
Question: Can I butt the end to the length to make a 90 degree corner ? I have a hallway with a corner and I want to change direction of the floor without a transition moulding.
Answer: The proper product installation (this is a click floor, with click mechanisms along one edge only) will not allow for this.
-
Question: I will be installing in a fairly large kitchen that opens (leads) into a dining room. Is it possible to frame around the walls with the plain waterproof cork and then create an area in the center (rectangular) that is the waterproof cork in the wood look? thank you for any advice.
Answer: As these are all the same brand, same line, same plank size, same clicking mechanism of Amorim WISE Waterproof Cork flooring, yes you could click different colors of the cork look and wood look together to create your own unique floor pattern per your description.
-
Question: can i get a sample of waterproof cork in sprucewood for $1? If yes, how?
Answer: We do not sell single samples of any of the waterproof cork products. If you are interested in just a single sample, you can get them through Amorim. Go to https://www.amorimwise.us/products and if you hover your cursor over the floor you want to get a sample of there will be a link made visible to order a sample. If you are interested in receiving a sustainable sample box rental from us, which comes complete with 10 samples and a $25 coupon code you can use in a future flooring order, that is an option as well.
-
Question: Are there thresholds and quarter round available in the same pattern?
Answer: I'm sorry, there is not molding available to coordinate with that pattern.
-
Question: Is waterproof cork flooring a good choice for a waterfront beach cottage - sandy and wet feet?
Answer: Sure. It's waterproof. Extremely durable. Kid and pet friendly and with the SRT (Superior Resistance Technology) finish, it's suitable for your highest traffic areas and is used in high moisture areas of the home. Kitchens, bathrooms, mudrooms, entryways, laundry rooms, etc. For residential use, it comes with a limited lifetime warranty (finish and structure); 10 years for commercial use.
-
Question: Has anyone combined multiple colors to make a unique appearance?
Answer: We have not heard of anyone doing this (it's an interesting idea). It would be physically possible as any of the wood look waterproof cork styles can click and lock together. If you go this route, let us know and send us pictures!
-
Question: Dog friendly?
Answer: Cork floors are coated with a finish that could be scratched by the claws of cats and dogs running on the floor. However, because cork is resilient and will move away from pressure the surface will be less subject to abrasion than a similarly treated hardwood floor. Keeping your pet's nails trimmed will help keep your floors looking beautiful.
-
Question: Should I apply a polyurethane coating on the floor?
Answer: If your cork flooring has become dull from normal wear and tear, it can be re-finished with two coats of polyurethane.Instructions from Nova Cork here: FINISH AND FINISHING Your floor comes with a factory water based polyurethane finish. Nova Distinctive Floors recommends putting 2-3 additional coats of Bona Kemi Traffic or AFM Safecoat Polyureseal BP polyurethane in order to seal the seams to prevent any water penetration. Please keep in mind that all natural products are recommended to have a UV finish to protect the product from fading. Use 220 grit or finer sand paper using a random orbital or hand sander to lightly abrade the finish. Problem areas must be abraded sufficiently in order to completely remove the imperfections in the polyurethane. DO NOT sand the polyurethane down to the raw cork.It is the installer's responsibility for verifying the usage of the proper grit sand paper and other tools to ensure the finish is not scratched, gouged, or otherwise damaged during the abrading process. After the floor has been swept and cleaned and dried, apply water-based polyurethane on the abraded area.

Answer: Yes.
-
Question: I want to install cork flooring in my laundry room. Will it hold up to having a clothes washer on it? Will the washer cause indentation or tearing?
Answer: Many customers use this in laundry rooms because it is comfortable to stand on and waterproof. We recommend using some type of plastic, wooden, rubber or even cork spacer underneath the feet to help control movement and denting.
-
Question: This flooring looks fantastic. Would it work for a screened porch?

Question: We plan to install in a basement over the slab and we will use the vapor barrier (MP Global Moisture Block) as recommended BUT we wondered if we ALSO need a underlayment with dimples for air flow - like DMX 1-step?
Answer: You could add an underlayment if you like, but that is optional. Please follow the directions (included in the downloads section on the product detail page, link included below for convenience) that any underlayment needs to be 1/8" or less and structurally stable/flat (no dimples). If you are going the underlayment route we would recommend 1/8" cork underlayment OR Quietwalk Plus.https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
-
Question: So. Are you saying it will not hold up if you have a large dog?
Answer: No. Not all large dogs run through the house. Older dogs are fine. Young 80-90 lb Labradors, for example, will tear up any floor unless they have carpet runners installed over them. Then they are not an issue. Clipping the nails will also help.
-
Question: Do the wood-look cork floors require a specific backing on entry mats and kitchen mats? I understand there's an issue with rubber or latex backed mats on cork, but since the top layer of the wood-look flooring is a different material, what kind of mat or rug can be used?
Answer: Rubber backed area rugs are not recommended over Amorim Cork Flooring. Rubber can trap moisture and cause movement. Some area rugs also have a binding of fibers on the back that can be very hard. These fibers can cause a slight indentation when stepped on. (Like stepping on a pebble that is on the floor). If these hard fibers exist, they would recommend a mesh carpet barrier to help protect the floor.
-
Question: does the nova cork flooring have foam on the back of the board or no foam needed ?
Answer: Our Nova Cork Flooring does not have any foam on the back. You may be referring to the underlayment. The one we would suggest is called Quietwalk Plus. This will be placed over your subfloor and the flooring will be installed on top of it.
-
Question: Does the Amorim waterproof cork require an underlayment if installed in a bathroom on concrete slab?
Answer: The only requirement is a vapor barrier if your Waterproof Cork Floor is floated over concrete. If you are gluing your floor down a vapor barrier is not required. Additional underlayment is optional in either case - please see the installation instructions for additional information, located on the product detail page under downloads, direct link below for your convenience. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
-
Question: Does this work well on the second story of a house? As in will it reduce the traffic noise similar to carpet?
Answer: Yes, cork is known to be a natural sound reducer. We would suggest adding our underlayment called Quietwalk Plus as well for additional sound deadening.
-
Question: Can I use 1lb MLV under my cork flooring to further soundproof the room?
Answer: No. Per the installation instructions, IF you want to use an optional underlayment to improve acoustical properties it needs to be a breathable material, like cork (not vinyl)."OPTIONAL UNDERLAYMENT Amorim Wise cork complies with most residential acoustical standards by itself and does not require additional underlayment. However, to improve thermal or acoustical benefits, installing a dense underlayment that is 1/8" thick or less- such as cork, urethane, or other padding types that are breathable- can be done..."Installation Instructions : https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
-
Question: Does this product have any odor? Also, we would be installing on a OSB subfloor above a sealed and conditioned crawl space, it seems the instructions say not to put down a vapor barrier if installing over wood. Would we need an underlayment and if so should it be breathable? Or is it best to install directly over the OSB subfloor?
Answer: A persons nose and scent capability is super subjective, but when I installed this myself I could smell no odor for what that is worth. If installing over an OSB subfloor, a vapor barrier is optional. Also stated in the directions (link below for convenience) you can use optional underlayment, we recommend a dense underlayment that is 1/8" thick or less, such as cork, urethane, or other breathable types (no to rubber and no to squishier/thicker underlayment options).Installation Instructions : https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
-
Question: Will I be able to roll a 7 ft. grand piano on casters to a different part of the room without scratching the floor? Also, will the weight of the piano leave dents?
Answer: We recommend gluing the floor to prevent the weight of the piano casters from buckling the cork. Rollers don't scratch the surface. We roll 1500lb pallets of product across our waterproof cork from our loading dock into an elevator every day without issues.Regarding dents: use some type of wooden, plastic or metal coaster to spread the load and prevent indentations. We recommend this for wood, bamboo, Marmoleum and cork because of the point loading of the weight on the caster is excessive. The coaster will spread the load and minimize the denting.
-
Question: What is the difference between Green Guard Gold Certified and FSC certified?
Answer: The GREENGUARD Gold seal certifies that this product has been independently tested and verified to meet rigorous standards for chemical emissions and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), such as formaldehyde or phthalates. FloorScore (FSC) is a voluntary, independent certification program that tests and certifies hard surface flooring and the materials they are made with to ensure they are in compliance with stringent indoor air quality emissions. The FloorScore certification means a product can lead to healthier, cleaner air.
-

Answer: Yes, but we strongly recommend gluing it down with our DriTac 7700 or 5500.
-
Question: How does it hold up to multiple large dog households?
Answer: We recommend porcelain tile.
-
Question: Can this flooring be used with a rolling office chair? Would the wheels sink in?
Answer: Rolling chairs are xxxx floors, in general. The Waterproof Cork isn't "cushy" like people think of corkboard that goes on the wall or a cork underlayment. You may order the sample box for a 10 day rental. Then, you'll be able to see the cork in person to know how dense this particular cork floor is. It's best, on any floor, to buy a floor mat meant to go under rolling office chairs. That will protect any floor you buy.
-
Question: Can your product be used on walls and if so would it be glued on?
Answer: At this time we have no installation method for applying this flooring to walls. We have heard that some customers have done this successfully, however, the manufacturer does not warrant such an application.
-
Question: If I decided to use the Wicanders Cork GO in the kitchen and bathroom, as opposed to the waterproof, is there an appropriate sealer that I could use to make it more water resistant?
Answer: Not really. It's not the top coating or cork layer that is susceptible to water. In the case of the Cork GO it's the middle layer of wood that cannot handle getting wet. And that is only a problem if you have puddles of water on the surface that manage to penetrate into the super narrow cracks between the individual panels of flooring, then that water could cause the wood layer to swell, which could lead to warping. By comparison the Waterproof Cork has no wood layer, it's cork all the way through, hence the waterproof label.
-
Question: Can I use this on my basement walls (no thumbtacks) over Wonderboard or green cement board? We are replacing walls in basement that was damaged due to a flood.
Answer: That is not a warranted installation application, this is only warranted for floor installation. This is a floating floor or a glue down floor, in both cases you have gravity working against you if trying to place on a vertical surface.
-
Question: How is this for being stain resistant ?
Answer: Waterproof cork with the cork look is just as good as regular cork flooring in terms of stain resistance. You need to clean up after spills but it will perform just like most hardwood flooring. It can also be refinished after many years of wear.
-
Question: Can it be used on walls?
Answer: This product was made for flooring and it is not warranted for walls. However, I'm sure some people have applied it to their walls. It will require some nails to hold it up. We do not carry an adhesive that is strong enough.
-
Question: Are there samples? I don't see an option

Question: Can you ship to Hawaii?
Answer: Yes...with conditions. We will ship any smaller in stock items to Hawaii, but cannot ship flooring or anything that we don't have in stock. Our partners will not drop ship to the Aloha state. It's best to call and speak to an Eco-Advisor regarding shipments outside the contiguous 48 states.
-
Question: How does the traction (slip-resistance) of the waterproof cork compare to regular cork? is it as slippery as hardwood would be?
Answer: The Waterproof Cork Cork Look has a degree of give and slip resistance that I estimate is marginally more than some hardwoods. Please, do not take my word for it. The best thing is for you to get some samples of both hardwood and waterproof cork and see and feel them side by side.
-
Question: How many square feet are in a box?
Answer: Per the specs section at the bottom of the product page: Square Feet / Box 15.18 Square Feet
-
Question: Can this cork product be installed over existing tile floors?
Answer: Yes, it can as long as the tile is flat and smooth. Ridges and bumps must be ground down. Grout lines 1/4" or larger must be filled with patching compound such as Ardex brand or any portland cement type made for this purpose. A vapor barrier is required underneath the cork flooring. We offer Moisture Block which is 6mil polyethylene that comes in 100 SF rolls.
-
Question: Would this be a good option for a dance studio? One where ladies dance salsa in heels?

-
Question: What is the price /sq footage? Is this all cork boarding or just the top layer of the plank/board.Thanks!

-
Question: If installing over plywood subfloor do I need a moisture barrier? If so what's the best non toxic option for that? Preferably thin. Or could I just install directly over existing linoleum?
Answer: Provided your surface area (be it linoleum or plywood) is flat, smooth and stable you can do a floating installation directly over it. Moisture barrier is optional in this case, but if you wish to go that route we recommend Moisture Block. Complete Installation Guidelines are located in the downloads section on the product detail page, link included below for your convenience. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
-

-
Question: Can the cork flooring be used on a wall like a bulletin board? Will it hold thumbtacks?
Answer: It is very much not the intended use, no.If you are interested in a wall that is designed to hold thumbtacks, we would recommend Forbo's Bulletin Board Pinboard Linoleum.
-
Question: What sealant for cork flooring that is non toxic do you sell?
Answer: Amorim waterproof cork flooring comes in wood look with a PET finish that requires no additional sealant--ever. The waterproof cork with the cork look, however, has a traditional UV acrylic urethane finish that can be re-finished after years of wear and tear. We recommend our AFM Safecoat Polyureseal BP. Instructions for application must be discussed carefully with our staff to insure proper bonding.
-
Question: If installed in a kitchen, how would it work under a heavy commercial-type stove (heat, weight) and heavy refrigerator (weight)?
Answer: Waterproof Cork is different from traditional cork because it is impregnated with high density polyethylene HDPE which is a food grade plastic. This is very tough, much like gallon milk containers and when it saturates the cork becomes highly dense and resistant to weight and denting. We've tested it on our refrigerator for two days and found almost imperceptible dents which popped out after several days. Cork has an excellent memory which is why it can be used in wine bottles successfully for decades. Having said this, we always recommend using a plastic, wood or even cork spacer underneath the feet of heavy furniture and appliances to spread the load and reduce indentations over time.
-
Question: can i use your cork panels to soundproof a wall?
Answer: Cork underlayment is a great sound deadener. However, "SoundProof" cannot be guaranteed as there are many type of sound and several factors that affect the reduction of sound. If you call us at 888-302-6051 M-F 9-5pm CST and let us know what you are trying to accomplish and what you are working with we can work with you to give you some sound mitigation options.

-
Question: Can this be used as a wall covering?
Answer: It is not warranted for that kind of use.
-
Question: Can this product be installed in a high traffic commercial area?
Answer: WaterProof Cork wears as good or better than its synthetic counterparts. Its superior wear resistance is suitable for almost any indoor location. It can be installed in high traffic commercial spaces as well as any residential area below, at or above grade. We have the Amorim Wood Look installed in our shipping area behind our showroom and it has heavy carts wheeling over it all day long. We are quite pleased with its wear.

-
Question: We are planning on putting this over porcelain tile. We are in Arizona where the climate is really dry. Do we need to use a moisture barrier or can we go straight on the tile? We are worried about something spilling on the floors and the barrier having an opposite effect and causing mold because there is no way for it to breathe.
Answer: Dry climate or not, the moisture barrier is a requirement for going over tile if you wish to keep your floor under warranty.
-
Question: We are planning on putting this in a bathroom as well. On their install-info on the website, it states " However, in order to prevent the water to penetrate under the installed floor (which can create conditions for growing of fungus, mold or smell), a polyurethane sealant must be applied on expansion joints. Do you have anything for that? Also, when they joints I assume it means where the boards connect to each other? I am sure normal caulking around the tub etc is standard.
Answer: Nope. By "expansion joints" we mean literal gaps in the floor, such as around the perimeter, or anywhere you place a t-molding or threshold. This is only necessary if you are floating the floor. If you are doing a glue down installation this rule is not applicable.
-
Question: How does cork withstand weight such as appliances and furniture? Also can it installed over existing hardwood floor?
Answer: We've installed 1000 SF of WaterProof cork on our loading dock where were run 500 to 1500 lb pallets over them every day with no issues. We also tested this product under our refrigerator for two days and found a slight indentation. After two days the indentation bounced back. Cork has an excellent memory. We recommend using a spacer made of plastic or wood to spread the load and reduce indentations.WaterProof cork is applied as a floating floor which can be installed directly over most hardwood floors assuming it is flat, smooth and doesn't have bumps or dips > 3/16" over a 8' span. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for more details. No vapor barrier is required.
-
Question: What are the installation instructions for this product on stairs? Do we need to glue it down? If so, what glue? Thank you!
Answer: This would be installed the same as most glue down flooring on stairs. You will need stair nose trim (you can buy that through Versatrim 866-200-8132). For glue we recommend DriTac 7700 Easy Clean Adhesive.
-
Question: Do you sell your products in Australia? They pretty much tick all the boxes for what I want in flooring
Answer: We do not know what is sold in Australia. You will need to reach out to that manufacturer directly and ask them. https://www.amorimwise.com/dealer-loc... We are not able to ship to Australia.
-
Question: Is this breathable to prevent dampness?
Answer: Dampness can be caused in two ways: 1) via hydrostatic pressure, i.e. ground water that builds up on clay soil and is sucked upwards through the slab. 2) via condensation where damp air condenses on colder concrete. Our GBS Penetrating Concrete Sealer can be used to prevent #1 but it will not stop #2. Our DriTac Golden Bullet adhesive is also designed to help mitigate moisture intrusion from #1. Cork flooring is a good insulator by nature and and will inhibit cold thermal temperatures from moving towards the surface through the cork thereby preventing condensation (#2). Our QuiteWalk Plus underlayment will also help prevent condensation if used underneath any floating floor.Cork flooring that is glued down will generally not be very breathable due to the glue. However, the traditional floating cork floors will be more breathable.
-
Question: Can the waterproof cork be easily cut on a curve around the edge of a brick hearth? Does it get scored and then broken like vinyl flooring which is harder to do on a curve?
Answer: Yes, this can definitely be scored on a curve and snapped apart like drywall. Very easy and with very little dust and no frayed edges.
-
Question: Can it be cleaned using a steam mop?
Answer: Yes, a steam mop can be used by a very conscious and cautious adult. The potential issue with a steam mop is that someone might hold the tip too close to the surface for too long and damage the finish. Or spraying too much moisture into the seams might cause water to penetrate through to the subfloor and eventually cause mold. Usually, the less moisture the better when it comes to all types of flooring.Routine sweeping with a dust mop or Swiffer type every week and occasionally damp mopping with minimal water is all that is necessary to maintain this floor.
-
Question: How to take care of cork floors?
Answer: Nothing special is needed for cleaning the waterproof cork flooring. It can be swept, dust mopped, damp mopped, or vacuumed. You could use any one of the following cleaners: AFM SafeChoice Multipurpose Cleaner and Degreaser, HydroxiPro PowerSafe, Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner, WoodWise or Vermeister's Detergente Neutro cleaner for regular cleaning needs. They will all work well over the waterproof cork flooring.
-
Question: We're installing the originals harmony cork flooring. Do you have any options of suggestions for transition strips?
Answer: We suggest versatrim moldings, we are not licensed to sell these directly, but you or your contractor can order coordinating transition pieces direct from Versatrim. https://772072.app.netsuite.com/core/...
-
Question: What is the middle layer composed of?
Answer: The core is made from HDF high density fiberboard which has no added formaldehyde and is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified.
-
Question: What do I use to clean the cork floor?

You could use any one of the following cleaners: AFM SafeChoice Multipurpose Cleaner and Degreaser, HydroxiPro PowerSafe, Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner, WoodWise or Vermeister's Detergente Neutro cleaner for regular cleaning needs. They will all work well over the waterproof cork flooring.

Question: Do you have flooring for home gyms specifically or something you recommend?
Answer: Our Amorim waterproof cork is an excellent option. Clearly this depends upon the size and weight of your equipment and how it is used. It will not handle dropping 250 lb dumbbells, for example. For excessive use we recommend gluing the floor down.
-
Question: Given that total immersion in water for 5 days didn't cause any dimensional changes, is the .2 inch expansion area really necessary?
Answer: Yes. Believe us, the installation instructions are written the way they are for a reason. While it is subtle, expansion occurs in more than just the layer of the floor itself, having that safety ensures that as the subfloor, walls, and the rest of your structure expands and contracts, your floor will not buckle or crack.

Question: I'm interested in installing Amorim WISE on a second-floor condo. The subfloor is gypcrete. How does the sound insulation of this product (7mm of cork) compare with other cork floating floors (like Wicander) that have less cork but are thicker (10-12mm) due to the thickness of the foam board?
Answer: The two brands are comparable with regard to acoustic blockage.Wicanders Cork Go collection complies with ASTM standards for sound transmission with a IIC impact insulation class rating of 58 (ASTME492/ASTM E989) and and STC Classification for sound insulation of 54 (ASTM E90/ASTM E413). It reduces impact sound by 16 decibels (ISO 140-8). It provides a difference of loudness by 51.6% (EPH/IHD Works Standard 431).By comparison Waterproof Cork has slightly better numbers. It reduces impact sound by 18 decibels (ISO 140-8). It provides a difference of loudness by 65% (EPH/IHD Works Standard 431) and STC Classification for sound insulation of 60 (ASTM E90/ASTM E413).

Question: For installation in a bathroom and in order to make in waterproof, the instructions state to apply a polyurethane sealant on expansion joints. Are the expansion joints considers the outside border of the floor (against walls) or is this everywhere the planks meet? How do you apply the adhesive to ensure it is waterproof as the instructions don't answer this?
Answer: Expansion joints are anywhere the flooring meets the walls or another type of flooring. It does not mean between planks side to side. Expansion joints and/or transition strips or only required when the length of the floors exceed 60 LF in one direction or 3200 SF. Do not apply any sealant between each plank side to side as that is not necessary. You can use a caulking compound around the perimeter between the edge of the floor and the wall to prevent water from getting underneath the flooring if you wish.
-
Question: How should I clean waterproof cork flooring?
Answer: You will want to clean with a mild cleanser such as AFM Safechoice Multi-purpose cleaner. Also, any time you mop, you want to make certain your mop is barely damp and not wet. Barely damp mops will clean and pick up the dirt while wet mops move the dirt around and don't really clean. Also, too much water can end up ruining floors over time.
-
Question: I'm working from home a lot now, because of Covid. Wondering how this floor would hold up in a home office - would there be indents from sitting all day in a desk chair? Would those add up over time to the area under the desk being indented/compressed?
Answer: Cork has a very good memory and will resist denting to a degree. We always recommend using a spacer underneath the feet to spread the load. The waterproof cork is much denser than traditional cork and our testing with a refrigerator showed that there were very minor dents that popped back after one day. If you order a sample box there will be piece of cork flooring you can use to test this for yourself and see.
-
Question: I would like to use this as an accent wall. What adhesive can I use?
Answer: We do not carry any adhesives that would work to affix flooring of this size and weight to the wall (gravity is working against you). And this flooring is not meant for wall installation.
-
Question: Is it possible to install this product over an existing tile floor?
Answer: Per the install instructions at the right hand side of the page under Downloads https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c... , yes. "WISE on ceramic tile floors--The maximum joint should not be wider than 2mm (0.08"), and 1mm (0.04") depth. If this is not the case, or if there is any kind of embossing, skim coat the grout lines with a floor leveler). All types of concrete, ceramic subfloors must be even, dry, variations should not exceed 5mm in 2m (0.20" in 6.6 feet) and flat."
-
Question: Can I use the Quiet Walk Plus underlayment under the waterproof cork flooring if I want an additional sound barrier? The subfloor is plywood.
Answer: For the most effective sound barrier, we would recommend a 1/8" cork underlayment (we sell rolls of Warm & Quiet from WE Cork). QuietWalk Plus would also work, but would be less effective than cork at sound deadening for this application.
-
Question: Should I not use a vapor barrier on pre existing hardwood floor? The installation instructions state "Existing wood planks, engineered wood boards, OSB panels, drywall elements etc. must not be covered with PE foil acting as a vapour barrier. The area below the floor should also be sufficiently ventilated in an adequate way (back-vented skirting board) to maintain the equilibrium moisture content of the wood planks, engineered wood boards, OSB panels, drywall elements.". Does this mean that I shouldn't use the 6mil underlayment?
Answer: Yes, you are reading this correctly. Provided you are going over one of the subfloors listed and the area beneath the floor is properly ventilated you do not need a 6mil underlayment.
-
Question: Can I use a vapor barrier over pre existing hardwood floor when installing?
Answer: We would not recommend it. Using a vapor barrier over a pre-existing hardwood floor may trap moisture and cause the wood floor to rot. It's best to let that wood breathe beneath your waterproof cork.
-
Question: I don't see anything about Janka Hardness Rating? Thank you!
Answer: Janka ratings are not used in any resilient type flooring, such as cork. These floors are resilient, comfortable, waterproof, non-toxic with a zero carbon footprint. These floors are warranted for wear and waterproofness. If you are seeking a hard floor (with Janka ratings) check out the hardwood and strand bamboo floors we offer.
-
Question: If I first remove linoleum tiles and leave a plank subfloor, do I need to buy a barrier sheet before I put down this product? Or it goes directly on the plywood subfloor?
Answer: Provided your plywood subfloor is flat, dry, stable and clean - yes, you can install this directly over the subfloor. This link is to the complete installation instructions : https://772072.app.netsuite.com/core/...
-
Question: So with this "cork look" product the finish surface is not actually cork it's something else? The cork is internal. Are we seeing a faux cork grain?
Answer: The top of the waterproof cork: cork look product is a cork veneer, made out of cork, which is layered on top of more cork.
-
Question: I only need 20 square feet of Novas cork flooring #12286. May I buy that amount ?

-
Question: Does the limited lifetime warranty for residential use cover chipping?
Answer: The entire warranty is included in our downloads section on the product detail page, included below for your convenience : https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
-
Question: I am interested in purchasing the Cyber Oak "wood look" cork flooring, it will be installed in a basement "below grade". Is this really 100% waterproof or "water resistant"? Also is this product warrantied for installation over a concrete floor?
Answer: We tested the waterproof-ness ourselves by submerging the boards in water for several days, pulling them out afterword and finding no change in board weight or board stability, no warping. In our books, that makes these waterproof. Most of our other flooring is levels of water resistant, so we appreciate the difference. (You can read an article we wrote on the difference here: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/L... ) Installing this below grade over concrete is absolutely fine, provided the concrete is clean, level and dry. You will want to use a moisture barrier between the concrete and the flooring for a floating installation. We recommend QuietWalk Plus for it's slight cushion and wicking properties. The warranty gives details as to what is covered and what is excluded, in short if you install following the installation instructions to the letter (which would include a below grade install over a concrete subfloor) then you are warranted (some exclusions apply) see entire document here : https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
-
Question: Is the waterproof version Item #100941 most similar to the regular non-waterproof version Cork Go Item #86550?
Answer: Both the Cork GO Dawn and the Waterproof Cork Originals Shell are very similar in pattern and sheen, The Dawn is slightly darker and richer in tone.
-
Question: Hi. How many planks before a repeat in the pattern for the wood looking planks?
Answer: Per the verbiage on the Wood Look page, the Wood Look has a repeat every 9 planks. However, it's an offset repeat meaning that nothing shows up in the same place. It's almost impossible to look at a completed floor and see any repeats.
-
Question: Can these be easily installed on a wall above my desk?
Answer: This flooring was not intended to be used on walls. If you chose to do so, you would have to nail or xxxx the flooring to the wall.
-
Question: Do underlayments adversely affect this floor performance or would it compliment it?
Answer: Amorim recommends no underlayment. All that is required is a vapor barrier over concrete subfloors. No vapor barrier over wood subfloors provided there is good ventilation underneath. If you wish to add some thermal and acoustical insulation, an underlayment can be used. We recommend our QuietWalk Plus or 1/8" cork underlayment. Nothing thicker. Subfloors need to smooth, flat and level otherwise to much underlayment will produce too much flex and the click mechanism will not tolerate much movement.
-
Question: can this be installed over tiles?
Answer: Yes the WaterProof cork can be floated over ceramic or porcelain tile as long as it is smooth, level and has grout lines smaller than 1/4". If the grout lines are >1/4" they should be skim coated first to prevent telegraphing, because you would see lines appearing on the surface.
-
Question: Can you seal this after installation to improve water resistance?
Answer: No. This is a click floating floor that needs a degree of space so the floor can expand and contract during the changing seasonal humidity and temperature of your home. To add a seal on top of this already sealed floor is not going to help the wooden core which is still exposed to water which can seep in through the cracks between boards if you let standing puddles stand. If you are interested in a waterproof cork floor, we sell that. Check out the possibilities of the Amorim Waterproof floor; Cork Look and Wood Look.
-
Question: Can these be installed on uneven concrete?
Answer: Per the install instructions, https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c... , it may be installed on concrete. However, concrete floors must be free of dirt and grease; and need to be smooth, dry, level (1/8" over 10') and flat. All cracks, holes must be patched with Portland cement based compound.
-
Question: Are the cork GO products waterproof flooring?
Answer: No. The cork GO products have a High Density Fiberboard in the center, which can react to water should the water get down through the cracks between the boards (which would happen if you had flooding/long standing water puddles). For waterproof cork flooring check out the Amorim Waterproof Cork Flooring : https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...
-
Question: Will cork be OK for basement that could flood?
Answer: We would not recommend the Cork GO product for a basement that is prone to flooding. It has a high density wood core that would be affected by long standing water. A better fit would be the Waterproof Cork product we offer, it's made by Amorim and we put it to the test on having the boards submerged for 6 days. When we removed it from the water and there was no swelling, no weight change, the boards seemed just fine. You can check out those products here : https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...
-
Question: I just had this floor installed and my contractor told me to ask if there is a touch-up stick for possible future scratches?
Answer: Sorry, no such sticks are available, however, most hardware stores offer them in a variety of colors.
-
Question: Is it ok to install the floor around a drain (in our basement) or what do you suggest? Along the bottom of the wall by the drain there is actually a gap that allows for drainage from the washer/dryer and utility sink in the nearby room.
Answer: Per the manufacturer's approval, Amorim did say it is permissible to install their waterproof cork up to the drain.
-
Question: Brochure shows wood look options in both HRT and SRT technologies. From the specs, looks like the wood look HRT floor has better impact sound reduction than the wood look SRT floor. Are any of the wood look options HRT? It looks like maybe the Highland Oak is HRT? We're particularly interested in the Field Oak. Do you know if that is HRT or SRT? Sound insulation is very important to us since we live in a condo.
Answer: Unfortunately the Amorim brochure and technical data sheet are international publications that have good product info, but also shows products that have not yet been imported into the United States. As such we do not have any HRT wood look products yet, and do not know when they will be available to us to sell. All of the Cork Look products do have the HRT tech.
-
Question: I am looking for a color of cabinets to match my grey floor?. Can't decide the color to go for?

-
Question: If I spill a jar of tomato sauce on this floor will it stain?
Answer: The 3-coats of water-based polyurethane finish and the cork composition help make the floor resistant to stains, but does not make it invulnerable to stains. Tomato sauce will stain any floor if you spill it and do not clean it up, it is acidic and will gradually eat it's way through the finish. The same is true of red wine. You will want to wipe up anything spilled as soon as possible to prevent staining; use a damp, clean rag.
-
Question: If this flooring has plastic in it, what does the end life of this product look like? How will it be disposed of?
Answer: Probably in a landfill. However, there is nothing toxic in the product and it will not produce dioxins or other hazardous pollutants like vinyl flooring would.
-
Question: I want to use this in my entire 1600 sf house, is there a limit on the size or length of the area I can cover? Some flooring requires T strips for extra large areas or as thresholds.
Answer: Yes, there's a limit but it's a huge one. 3300 SF or 60 lineal feet. No expansion joints are needed between rooms. Should you need one, Amorim recommends Versatrim.com for moldings.
-
Question: Is there a wall paneling option that uses cork?
Answer: There is, but we have not imported it yet from the manufacturer in Portugal. Hopefully next year we will have some to offer. Right now, wall paneling from this manufacturer is only available in Europe.
-
Question: What is surface texture? Is it slick and slippery when wet?
Answer: The wood look has a slightly embossed surface that has some texture to reduce slippage. However, when wet, all surfaces become slippery. If you order our sample box you can test this out to see if it suits your needs.
-
Question: Can you set furniture on the flooring as your lay it? In other words, could you move the furniture to one side of the room , lay the other side and then move it back to complete the room?
Answer: Yes. While this floor is very dense and has good memory, the manufacturer recommends using furniture spacers/sliders.
-
Question: I am interested in Traces Tea for my bedroom. Is there a threshold piece you would recommend that works well?
Answer: The company who makes coordinating trim for all the Amorim Waterproof Cork cork-look and wood-look flooring is Versatrim. Go to Versatrim.com > Online ordering> Amorim / Wicanders > name of your color.
-
Question: Can cork go on top of linoleum?
Answer: Per the installation instructions https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c..., "WISE can be installed on top of most hard surfaces such as resilient floor coverings and ceramic tiles which are sufficiently fixed, completely leveled and have no loose areas. " So, if it is adhered down well, level, and not loose or coming up anywhere, you may do so. It is recommended to always follow the manufacturer's written instruction.
-
Question: Does this require transition seams at a certain expanse?
Answer: Yes, about every 25-30 feet or if you are changing directions.
-
Question: What is the length and width of the plank?
Answer: 36" x 12" and .44" thick.
-
Question: Will water (and cat urine) find their way to the subfloor via the space between each plank? Does this vary between the click and the glue installs? Thanks! I am excited about this product.
Answer: It would be difficult for water or pet accidents to seep in between the planks unless they were unattended for many hours. The click mechanism produces a very tight fit.Should pet urine find a way in between the planks, it will not hurt the flooring. Based on our own testing for 7 days underwater, we found no change in weight, length, width or thickness. The finish was perfectly intact as well. Also the waxy constituent of cork, repels liquid and naturally resists moisture and mold growth. The best way to understand how resilient these floors are, is to see for yourself. We have a sample rental box program for $25 with free shipping both ways and a $25 coupon towards purchase. The sample boxes include a sample that you can use for your own testing and keep for yourself.

Question: Hello, Can Cork Click flooring be installed in a laundry room in the basement? It will be a dry area with occasional water due to wet clothes. What about supporting the machines? Will the vibrations cause damage to the flooring?
Answer: Our Amorim Waterproof Cork would be a great fit for a basement or laundry room. The flooring can withstand heavy weight but we do suggest furniture pads under items over 300 pounds to prevent denting. If any damage does occur, replacing a board is very simple too! We love this floor and highly recommend it.
-
Question: Can this flooring be installed in a herringbone pattern?
Answer: Sorry, it can only be installed horizontally or vertically due to the way the click mechanism is designed. Only a tile without a click system would work for herringbone.
-
Question: What is the installation process ?

-
Question: How do you install it?
Answer: Floating installation instructions: https://772072.app.netsuite.com/core/...
-
Question: How hard is cork flooring compared to porcelain tile?
Answer: Porcelain tile is one of the hardest surfaces and is impervious to just about everything. However, because of its hardness, standing on it for very long becomes uncomfortable. Most people use it in entry ways, bathrooms and kitchens because it is virtually waterproof and very long lasting. However, you'll find most porcelain floors covered by area rugs to provide warmth, softness and reduce the noise. Porcelain tile is sometimes made with recycled content but still has a high carbon footprint. Cork is prized for its comfort underfoot. It is highly resilient, quiet, warm and completely renewable. It is also naturally antimicrobial. Our new Amorim WaterProof Cork offers all the benefits of traditional cork flooring plus it is completely waterproof.
-
Question: Is this material appropriate for use in a bathroom?
Answer: For bathrooms, we recommend our Waterproof cork flooring instead. Waterproof cork flooring is a new generation of sustainable, non-PVC flooring that offers a durable, long lasting, comfortable floor that is 100% waterproof. It is a click cork plank floor that can be floated or glued down. It is beautiful, safe and climate positive for the environment. It has all the benefits of vinyl (WPC, SPC and LVT) flooring but with none of the hazardous chemicals. It comes in both a Cork Look or Wood Look option.Cork Look:https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/W...Wood Look:https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/W...
-
Question: Can cork float flooring be directly installed on a hardwood floor?
Answer: Yes, it can be installed directly over a hardwood floor provided that floor meets all of the other qualifications recommended by the manufacturer, such as: level, smooth, dry, clean, etc.
-
Question: How can this floor be cleaned? Mopped? Steam mopped?
Answer: Nothing special is needed for cleaning the waterproof cork flooring. It can be swept, dust mopped, damp mopped, or vacuumed. You could use any one of the following cleaners: AFM SafeChoice Multipurpose Cleaner and Degreaser, HydroxiPro PowerSafe, Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner, WoodWise or Detergente Neutrocleaner for regular cleaning needs. They will all work well over the waterproof cork flooring.
-
Question: Our house has an open room plan and some areas meet at an angle. We will need to create transition lines 6-7ft long where board have to meet at an angle. Would you suggest flush transition molding and which kind for cyber and mountain oak cork?
Answer: WaterProof cork is so dimensionally stable that it can be installed in very large areas, up to 3,229 square feet (56 x 56 feet), without transition strips. So unless you have a very large house (or I am misunderstanding your question) you can probably get by without transition strips. That said, we can put you in contact with a molding provider Versatrim. who can set you up with complimentary colored transition strips. https://772072.app.netsuite.com/core/...
-
Question: How thick is the cork layer (the top layer)? Is there a diagram that shows the layers--is there a bottom cork layer (how thick) or do we need to add a layer? What about the click layer? Fiberboard and how thick? Thank you!
Answer: Dimensions are : 12" x 36" x 7/16" or 3/8"Top Layer: 3mm-2mm Middle HDF: 6.8mm Bottom Layer Cork: 1.2mmAt the minimum you will need a 6 mil vapor barrier underneath this floor when installing. It is up to you if you want to add additional cushion or underlayment to this floor.
-
Question: Would you recommend installing this before or after kitchen cabinets?
Answer: It can go either way really. If you think that you may ever change the cabinetry layout of your rooms, it can be nice to completely cover the floor with the Cork, so that you have more freedom to change a room layout in the future. Often times people install a floor around cabinets if they have no choice, for example, if they move into a home and put in a new floor but are keeping the cabinets. Since you have the choice, it makes more sense to lay the floor over the entire room first, and then install the cabinets.
-
Question: I'm putting it on a slightly uneven concrete slab. Will this floor allow for vapor barrier adhesive in place of the plastic so that the floor won't have air pockets between concrete and floor?
Answer: Installation instructions for this floating click floor - https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c... - The subfloor must be even, flat, dry and variations should not exceed 3 mm in 2 m (0.12" in 6.6 feet). All type of concrete, wooden and ceramic surfaces must be completely dry. Never install Wicanders floating floors with Corkloc without using a PE moisture barrier film with a minimum thickness of 0,2 mm (.008''). This is NOT made to be a glue down floor. For best results you will want to level your uneven concrete slab and follow the installation instructions to the letter. If you have outside the box installation ideas please call us or have your contractor call us to see how to best tackle this. 800-405-0222 9-5PM CST.
-
Question: Does this product need underlayment when installed over a plywood floor?
Answer: Nova cork only requires a vapor barrier beneath their cork flooring. We offer a 6mil polyethylene plastic product that is non-toxic, no odor and zero VOC called Moisture Block which comes in 100 Sf rolls. If you wish additional acoustical and thermal insulation we offer QuietWalk Plus which is an underlayment and moisture barrier all in one. It also comes in 100 SF rolls. You do not need both, just one or the other.
-
Question: Are you able to use cork flooring for interior staircase?
Answer: Yes, it can be glued to a tread and riser. Then use a bullnose on the front edge. Go to VersaTrim.com as they have matching colors in aluminum or vinyl that match well and are very low profile. (Look for Amorim Wicanders logo)

Question: Is the cork flooring as sound absorbing as carpet?
Answer: Cork is well known for its noise blocking properties. How it compares to carpet depends upon the thickness of the carpet and the type of padding underneath it. If you wish to make the cork more sound-proof to the people in the room below, you can add our QuietWalk Plus underlayment that will provide additional acoustical insulation. Unfortunately, we don't have comparative data to show you how they compare because carpeting typically doesn't offer those type of specs.Based on our experience, it should be very close.
-

Question: is a special tool required for locking the planks together?
Answer: The only tools required for installation are a fine toothed hand saw, spacer blocks, pencil, set square, 0,2mm PE film and adhesive tape. None of which are needed to lock the planks together. Instructions are here: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
-
Question: I got a sample and it looks good. I noticed there is a layer in between the top and bottom cork layer. What is that layer? Can you please provide as much detail as possible? Thanks for your help!
Answer: The top and bottom cork layers sandwich the high density fiberboard (HDF) layer with the proprietary Corkloc clicking mechanism. This type of construction is very common with many clicking floors.
-
Question: Do they use some kind if chemical to make this waterproof? If so, what is it?
Answer: Waterproof cork with a wood look is solid cork from top to bottom. It has been impregnated with high density polyethylene (HDPE) which is a food grade BPA-free plastic used to make milk bottles. It does not contain any phthalates, VOCs or other hazardous air pollutants.
-
Question: Can this be used as a shower/bathtub surround similar to Dumawall products? I'm looking for a more natural and lasting product with the same ease of installation. If I glue these planks to either backer board or plywood panels screwed onto stud walls and additionally seal the seams/corners with silicone, would this be able to function as a waterproof surround? Thank you very much!
Answer: Waterproof cork was not meant for shower surrounds. Due to all the seams, it might be a problem with the adhesive being exposed to too much water. The manufacturer certainly won't warrant this application. We have heard of customers using our Marmoleum sheeting. That comes 79" wide x any length. If you run that to the ceiling and glue it with their highly water resistant glue (Sustain 1195) it may work well as a shower surround. Of course, this is not warranted for this type of use either.Good luck.
-
Question: Looks like the greengold certificate is for a different product? On the certification section of the product it says greenguard (not gold).?
Answer: I can appreciate the confusion, Amorim is the manufacturer of Wicanders cork flooring products. Greenguard Gold is the certification. We'll see about making that clearer and thank you for pointing it out.
-
Question: What products can be used to mop clean Amorim Wise flooring? I saw that Wicanders Soft cleaner is recommended, but it seems to be hard to find. Would Bona work safely?
Answer: You'll want to use a neutral pH cleaner like you would for non oiled hardwood such as AFM SafeChoice, Multi-Purpose Cleaner and Degreaser. Make certain your mop is barely damp when mopping as a wet mop actually pushes dirt around and leaves residue vs. actually cleaning. Bona Pro Series Hardwood floor cleaner would also work fine for Amorim Wise WaterProof cork flooring.
-
Question: how thick is the cork veneer and what is the plank core made of?
Answer: Amorim Waterproof cork is .28" thick overall. It is made of cork from top to bottom, however the core is impregnated with high density polyethylene (HDPE) which is a food-grade plastic used in milk containers. The top layer is a UV cured acrylic urethane and comes with a lifetime residential warranty on the wear layer and lifetime warranty on the structure. We recommend ordering a sample box of 10 samples which will help answer most of your questions.
-
Question: Can this cork flooring be used in a basement home gym? The floor is concrete. I can't seem to find a non toxic rubber option. Thanks!
Answer: The Waterproof Cork certainly can be used for a basement home gym. We have many customer who use it for such.
-
Question: How does one clean waterproof cork flooring?
Answer: Nothing special is needed for cleaning the waterproof cork flooring. It can be swept, dust mopped, damp mopped, or vacuumed. You could use any one of the following cleaners: AFM SafeChoice, HydroxiPro PowerSafe, Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner, WoodWise or Detergente Neutrocleaner for regular cleaning needs. They will all work well over cork flooring.
-
Question: What is used to waterproof/seal/protect the flooring? As in the top coat.
Answer: The Wood Look utilizes a special BPA-free recycled PET (as used in milk cartons) coating that has superior resistance to moisture and scratching. It is also PVC free and does not contain any phthalates. It also emits zero VOCs and has almost no odor.
-
Question: 2 questions: 1. What exactly is the HRT protective surface on the Amorim wise cork tiles? I saw acrylic coating referenced below so is it basically water based poly? How many coats appx? 2. Is there anything I can do to prevent water intrusion/dirt buildup in the cracks between the tiles (other than hire a good installer)? Considering glue down installation to help in this regard. Also saw some other folks have used some kind of adhesive between the tiles on the click lock edges to help them stick/prevent peeling or separation. Any recommendations from you folks/manufacturer? Thank you!
Answer: Amorim has created two types of coatings for their waterproof cork flooring; High Resistant Technology (HRT) which is used only over the Cork Look and Superior Resistant Technology (SRT) used over the the Wood Look. The HRT is identical to the coating used over regular Wicanders cork flooring. It is multiple coats of UV cured acrylic/urethane. The SRT coating is made of PET which is a food safe polyurethane used in milk containers. There are no isocyanates, no VOCs and no formaldehyde emissions. It is a more scratch resistant surface, however, it is not repairable like the HRT. The manufacturer recommends replacing the planks in the even of serious damages which is quite easy to handle.Aside from the coatings and the appearance, both the Wood Look and Cork Look products are identical from the bottom up to the surface. They both have a waterproof core made with High Density Polyethylene (HDPE). Again, food safe with no emissions or hazardous chemicals and completely inert. It will not absorb moisture at all. Because of this, no additional coats are needed to prevent moisture from getting in between the planks. The click mechanism is so tight, liquids will have a very difficult time soaking in. This is unlike the regular cork flooring which has a high density fiberboard core that is not very moisture resistant and subject to expansion should there be moisture intrusion between the planks.Adhesive can be used beneath the planks but not in-between them because the adhesive will spread the two adjoining pieces further apart making it easier for moisture to soak in.
-
Question: Does the UV cured acrylic finish stand up to fading from sunlight?
Answer: WaterProof cork with the Cork Look will fade somewhat from the sunlight just like hardwood, bamboo, linoleum and wool or cotton carpeting. All natural products are affected by the UV rays of the sun and must be protected with window blinds or UV resistant window films. The Wood Look product on the other hand, has a much better protection from the suns rays. It still may fade slightly but not as much because it has a thicker protective layer on the surface.
-
Question: I have a sample of the Wicanders cork flooring, and I can easily put scratches in it with my fingernail. Is the Amorim waterproof cork surface more resistant to scratching (thinking pet toenails), and if is scratched through the finish wouldn't that then allow water infiltration?
Answer: Wicanders cork flooring has a UV cured acrylic finish much like what is on many hardwood floors. And, like all flooring, it can be scratched, but it can also easily be repaired. Like all flooring it will eventually wear but can be refinished. We've been offering cork flooring for more than 20 years with no valid warranty claims because it holds up well. The new Amorim Wise WaterProof cork floors come with a Cork Look and a Wood Look. The Cork Look has the same finish as the Wicanders (which is made by Amorim). The Wood Look has a much tougher PET finish that is superior to any other cork finish. We recommend order our sustainable sample box so you can test for yourself. Water will not penetrate through either of these products because the core is impregnated with High Density Polyethylene (food grade plastic - think milk cartons).
-
Question: Are these 100% waterproof?
Answer: Nova Cork Floors are highly moisture resistant but not waterproof because of the high density fiberboard cores, which when exposed to water over an extended period of time, may swell. However, we now offer a 100% waterproof cork product made by Amorim. You can see those selections here : https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...
-
Question: what is the color of the flooring Krystal used in the one review of the waterproof cork?great pictures
Answer: It was Waterproof Cork, Wood Look : Ocean Oak.
-
Question: What are the options for stair nosings?
Answer: Amorim does not make moldings to go with their flooring. However, they recommend Versatrim that makes vinyl moldings to coordinate with the waterproof cork. www.versatrim.com >products>color coordinating moldings>amorim>amorim/wicanders.
-
Question: What are spacers that you use for heavy furniture?
Answer: While WaterProof Cork is very dense and durable, the manufacturer recommends using plastic or wooden spacers (sliders) underneath the feet of chairs, tables and furniture. These are 2-3" in diameter and spread the load. All cork has an excellent memory and our experience with WaterProof cork underneath the feet of a refrigerator after several days was a slight indentation that bounced back in 24 hours.
-
Question: How long does shipping take from time of order to an address in Maryland?
Answer: Waterproof cork is stocked in MD and SF. Lead times will be only a few days if it is stocked in MD. However, it may be much longer if shipped from SF. If you have a particular floor you are looking at, call us at 641-323-6111 and have us check stock on your floor of interest.
-
Question: Sorry, resubmitting to fix a spelling error. How would this waterproof cork floor hold up in the dining room? Specifically with dining chairs that get moved around.
Answer: This product is extremely durable and scratch resistant. It is well suited for daily wear and tear. Its superior wear resistance is suitable for almost any indoor location and can be installed in high traffic commercial spaces as well as any residential area below, at or above grade. Samples are available on our website for your review.
-
Question: How thick is the wear layer on this product?
Answer: WaterProof cork with the Wood Look is a little more than 1/4" (.28") thick. This is solid cork from top to bottom. The core is impregnated with HDPE (high density polyethylene--food grade plastic used in milk cartons). The top layer is 3D printed with a highly durable PET coating. The Cork Look products are not 3D printed and have the normal cork finish which is UV cured acrylic polyurethane. Both are waterproof. Both have the same specs otherwise.

Question: Hi I'm interested in your amorin waterproof cork flooring but I live in the UK - can I get samples sent to the UK. Also, I know that cork is a good insulator so how well does this product work on top of electric underfloor heating?
Answer: Amorim WISE waterproof cork is made in Portugal just a skip across the pond from you. We suggest you contact them directly as we do not ship to the UK. Also this is not recommended over electric radiant heat as the temperatures can build up too high underneath.
-
Question: Does this flooring need to acclimate before being installed?
Answer: WaterProof cork should be acclimatized unopened in a dry, well-ventilated area for a minimum of 24 hours so that flooring may adjust to the temperature and humidity of the room. During storage and installation, maintain temperature and relative humidity to a level consistent with the conditions which will prevail when the building is occupied. In most cases, this means maintaining a temperature range from 65F to 82F and relative humidity range from 35% to 65%. Remove planks from packages just before starting the installation.
-
Question: When ordering flooring do you consider any waste of the product when ordering by square footage needed, some flooring places add 10 or 5% additional flooring?
Answer: We recommend a total of 10%: that is 5% for waste and another 5% for overage as insurance for any future issues that might arise. If your rooms are not square or there are lots of hallways and closets you can add a little more as there will be more cutting.?Bear in mind that if you order too little, your contractor will not be able to complete the job until more flooring is ordered which will delay things for another week or more creating additional inconvenience and expense. However, if you order too much, manufacturers usually charge restock fees of 25%-30% and shipping a few boxes via freight is the only way to return them in one piece which can be very pricey. Because everyone measures and calculates things differently, it's always good to get at least three bids so you can average out the differences.
-
Question: The specs say "Requires no transition strips for 3200 SF or 60 lineal feet of flooring." Does that mean I don't have to put in t-molding in doorways within as long as they are within a 3200 SF rectangle and no dimension is more than 60 ft?
Answer: That is correct. If you have waterproof cork flooring flowing from one room into another room you do not need to put in t-molding in the doorway as long as both rooms are within that 3200 SF and no dimension are more than 60 ft in the combined room area. Please note that there is an installation requirement to provide 5mm (0.2") expansion gaps between the edge of the floor and the walls or other fixed objects like cabinetry, pillars or floor registers.

Question: Is the Cork Look Identity Grafite considered a "warm" or "cool" color? I have the sample box and still can't tell for sure. It seems to be both: with a grey-brown and then a warm beige in the little "holes". Maybe that makes it a "neutral" color? How would any of you rate that color: warm, cool, or neutral?
Answer: We would rate the Cork Look Grafite as a warm color. Even though there is some grey, the predominant color is brown which is considered warm by most standards. What's more important than how we might rate it is how it relates to your decor. Does it blend well or contrast? Does it bring out some of the wood tones in your cabinets, trim or furniture? This decision is highly subjective and depends on lighting, wall and ceiling colors as well as furniture and area rugs. We strongly recommend ordering a sample box so you can see for yourself in your own home and compare with other samples.

Question: Can I cover my kitchen tile with a floating cork floor? Would I have to put down a waterproof barrier as well?
Answer: Waterproof Cork can be installed on top of most hard surfaces such as resilient floor coverings and ceramic tiles which are sufficiently fixed, completely leveled and have no loose areas. The maximum grout line (joint) should not be wider than 2mm (0.08"), and 1mm (0.04") depth. If this is not the case, or if there is any kind of embossing, then you should skim coat the grout lines with a floor leveler. Concrete and ceramic tile subfloors must be even, dry, and deflection (dips or bumps) should not exceed .20 inches in 6.6 feet (5mm in 2m). Installations below grade or at grade on concrete or tile require a waterproof barrier in the form of 6ml polyethylene plastic (perm rating of .1). Installing above grade, however, does not require a vapor barrier. Entire installation document can be found here : https://772072.app.netsuite.com/core/...

Question: How well does this floor stand up to water? I know it is not waterproof. I know someone with a cork floor (don't know the brand) and she said that the backing material is like a sponge and any spill leads to the edges bubbling. Thanks.
Answer: If you know you have potential water issues, we now recommend using our WaterProof cork flooring. There is no good reason to use the standard cork flooring in those situations, now that we offer the WaterProof version.Even though we have installed regular cork flooring in basements, kitchens and rec rooms, over the past 22 years without many issues; one must be mindful of the fact that it has a high density fiber core and when wet it can expand and cause buckling issues. Spills simply need to be attended to quickly. The backing of regular cork flooring is a thin layer of agglomerated cork which can absorb moisture too without harm to the flooring as long as it can be dried out.
-
Question: What floor is on page 31 of the brochure?
Answer: It is the Ocean Oak floor.
-
Question: Is it faster and easier to use a power miter saw or scoring with utility knife?
Answer: One of the unique benefits of Amorim Wise WaterProof cork is that it can be cut with either a utility knife or a chop saw. Using the knife works exceptionally well and is similar to scoring and snapping drywall. It's also much less messy and produces almost zero dust. A knife can be used lengthwise and crosswise. It saves time, avoids set up of a saw and can be done while on the floor making the entire process much faster and cleaner.
-
Question: I understand the waterproof flooring can be used for bathroom floors. Can it also be used for the walls of a shower? Thanks for any info.
Answer: The WISE WaterProof cork flooring was not designed for shower walls. Because this is not in the installation guidelines, the manufacturer will not warrant this type of application. Any application outside of these guidelines and you are on your own.
-
Question: How many different plank design variations are there for any given style? For instance, how many different planks are there for Field Oak?
Answer: Each of the Wood Look colors have a 9 plank repeat. However, it is an offset repeat. This means that, even in a similar plank, the knots are offset and muted a bit, so nothing stands out at all as the knots don't sit in the same place. It's very hard to look at a completed floor and know where the repeat happens.
-
Question: What is the difference between SRT and HRT finishes on the Wood Look Amorim floors?
Answer: Amorim's WaterProof cork comes in a Wood Look with SRT finish which stands for Superior Resistance Technology. This is very tough non-PVC wear layer designed for heavy traffic including commercial traffic. It is made of PET which is the same food-grade plastic used in making milk cartons. The Cork Look products come with an HRT or High Resistance Technology wear layer which has a UV cured acrylic/urethane finish that contains no PVC. It is not quite as durable as the SRT but has the same warranty. Both are waterproof and come with a lifetime warranty on the finish and the structure.
-
Question: How is the wood look achieved on the waterproof cork tiles? Is this screen printed? If yes, then is it durable?
Answer: The Waterproof Cork Wood Look planks are 3D-printed directly on the cork and then coated with a highly durable PET finish. This finish is a food grade and made of the same plastic used in milk cartons. It is extremely tough, waterproof and long lasting which is why this flooring comes with a lifetime warranty on the finish and the structure.
-
Question: I'm looking to lay the Waterproof Cork flooring in a basement that is currently not leveled. I'm assuming that the floor will need to be leveled. Are there best options for leveling for the flooring that I am considering?
Answer: Yes, all our flooring requires a flat smooth subfloor. The waterproof cork floor installation instructions: "variations (in subfloors) should not exceed 5mm in 2m (0.20" in 6.6 feet)". Please see this link for more extensive subfloor preparation: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...Unfortunately we do not currently carry a patching or leveling compound. These are readily available at most hardware stores or box stores. We recommend both Ardex Feather Finish or Chemrex Level Prep.
-
Question: We are looking to replace our Luxury Vinyl flooring. Can we place this right over top? Or would we need to remove it first? We are looking for a non toxic option as we have a toddler.
Answer: Assuming your existing floor is glued down to the subfloor and is flat, then yes, our WaterProof cork will float over the top easily without glue or nails. No vapor barrier would be needed as the vinyl acts as a vapor barrier. If you current floor is a floating floor and not glued down, it might still work over the top as long as it is flat and smooth. Check out our sample boxes to see all the colors.
-
Question: I'm interested in the Amorin product, but I've read the cleaning instructions and it seems like a lot of work to restore the floor to it's natural state if it gets dull. Is it really such a task or does the floor take a long time to reach a dull state? Also, I would be installing this product on a porch that is not temperature controlled. Will this product hold up?
Answer: Amorin Waterproof Cork has not been warranted for outdoor use. We have tested this product ourselves by submerging a plank for 5 days underwater with no change in weight, length, width or thickness. The subfloor needs to be smooth and flat as possible (3/16" deflection over 8' span). UV exposure from the sun can fade the flooring quicker but will not crack the surface like hardwood. All floors will dull over time depending upon the amount and type of foot traffic. Based on our experience, the coating is extremely tough and is difficult to scratch or wear through. The manufacturer provides a lifetime warranty on the structure and the finish.
-
Question: Can any contractor install this flooring, are there specific things we should ask a contractor before hiring?
Answer: Our WaterProof cork is a DIY floor. It's easy to install for anyone with a little experience and few tools. If you prefer to hire a contractor there is an excellent resource we published recently : https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/L...
-
Question: In the install instructions it says it can be cut with any kind of saw. One of the photos shows a box cutter and in the answer section of someone else's question someone mentioned install can be done without a saw at all. So does it need a saw or not? Can cuts be made cleanly by scoring and snapping? what about lengthwise cuts that could be as much as 48" long?
Answer: All you need is a box knife to score and snap. You do not need a saw. Same answer for lengthwise cuts. It's very easy and it snaps clean.
-
Question: I have noticed that the wood look uses rPET or recycled polyethylene terephthalate from water bottles as the top coat. Does the rPET leach out and/or outgas the heavy mental antimony that is used in the manufacturing of PET. Antimony is a heavy metal that is a suspected carcinogen. Since PET in general is considered a one time use plastic that when heated or scratched can possibility release this heavy metal. Since this is a top coat in the cork wood grain product, which has high scratch resistance and I assume no issues with heat, is there any possibility of Antimony being released into the air and/or leaching? Thanks!
Answer: No, according to the head tech guy at Amorim, it does not leach out or off-gas any heavy metals.
-

-
Question: Do these tiles have some flexibility?
Answer: Please provide some context to your question. Normally cork flooring is applied to a flat subfloor. There is a tolerance of 3/16 over 8' for deflection in the subfloor.
-
Question: How would you install this product on stairs?
Answer: We recommend gluing it down with our AFM Almighty Adhesive. One 10 oz. tube should cover two stair treads (3' wide) and risers. For the bullnose, we recommend VersaTrim. They offer two different types in coordinating colors. They are made of vinyl and are very durable and reasonably priced. Here's a link to their website where you can see all the colors and styles: https://versatrimorders.com/Amorim-Wi....
-
Question: Can this cork flooring be installed directly over Gypcrete subfloor?

Answer: The cork looks you see on the website are the 10 available in the US. Identity Moonlight is not available in the US. We can not special order the finishes available in other countries. We recommend ordering the Cork Look, Sustainable Sample Box which has all 10 looks in it. Answer: If you order more than one box, you can call in with your flooring order, and we will apply the $25 per box credit towards your flooring order of 250 SF or more. At this time our online system currently cannot service this automatically. We have to manually apply it. Thank you.

Question: Are noses for stairs available.?
Answer: Yes, visit Versatrim.com and look for Amorim Wise cork.
-
Question: If the cork flooring is truly waterproof why do you need a moisture barrier to install over a concrete basement floor? I would be concerned that I would be trapping moisture underneath the floor rather than letting it escape. This escaped moisture would then be sent out using a dehumidifier. I just want to make sure I'm not creating another health risk my trapping the moisture.
Answer: The manufacturer requires a vapor barrier even though the flooring itself is waterproof. This is to prevent mold and mildew from growing on the bottom of the floor and causing some degradation. Yes, a vapor barrier will trap moisture and mold and mildew may develop to a small degree, but at least it will not be growing on the flooring. Manufacturers of most hardwood, bamboo, cork, linoleum floating floors all recommend vapor barriers on concrete slabs for this same reason - namely to protect their flooring.
-
Question: The product says "Cork Look". Is it an actual cork surface or is it a printed product? I see on the Wood Look products that they seem to be a photo printed finish.
Answer: The Cork Look is the actual cork surface. It is not a 3D printing like the Wood Look.
-
Question: Can waterproof cork flooring be installed on top of vinyl flooring?
Answer: Yes. It is a floating floor and can be applied directly over the top. This assumes, of course, that it is flat, and does not have any big dips or bumps. If so, they will need to be patched or sanded down. No moisture barrier is needed either since the vinyl acts as a moisture barrier. This is a very easy installation.
-
Question: Can you install this on top of existing vinyl in a bathroom?
Answer: Yes, the Waterproof Cork can be installed over existing vinyl in a bathroom. The pre-existing floor must be level and have no loose areas. I'm including the full installation instructions here, for your review:https://772072.app.netsuite.com/core/...

Question: How is the waterproof cork flooring different than the traditional cork flooring feel-wise? We love the feel of cork and the idea of it being waterproof is appealing but does it take away from the natural feel? How thick is the waterproof coating or is it kind of soaked into the cork? I see that the traditional also has an acrylic layer on top. How is it different?
Answer: The feel of traditional cork and waterproof cork are almost the same. It's not likely you could tell the difference as both are very comfortable to walk on. The coating on any of the Cork Look floors is a UV cured acrylic which is the exact same finish as the traditional cork. The waterproof Wood Look however, does have a different feel as it is a recycled PET finish with a printed image of wood. It has an embossed texture and is even more durable than the Cork Look. Neither product contains nanoparticles or aluminum oxides. Waterproof cork emits zero VOCs, has no biocides, isocyanates, PVC, phthalates or any hazardous air pollutants. Check out our sustainable sample boxes to see what you like best!
-
Question: Is there a way to get stair treads, or make finished stairs with this flooring?
Answer: Nova Cork does not make stair treads or nosing for cork flooring. These can be made out of wood by your contractor.
-
Question: what kind of glue is used in the cork flooring?
Answer: The manufacturer recommendations are located in their installation guidelines here: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...Please read thoroughly. We offer DriTac 5500 because it's a non-toxic zero VOC pressure sensitive adhesive designed for cork flooring.
-
Question: What is the core of the waterproof cork and how do they make it waterproof? Being E1 certified, it seems like that means it is a wood core which means some natural formaldehyde (none added as per the ingredients sheet).
Answer: WaterProof cork utilizes cork that is impregnated with High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) which is a food grade plastic used in milk and yogurt containers. There is no VOCs or formaldehyde emissions from this product.
-
Question: Great product from the description but being sensitive to chemicals, I find that the poly underlay needed for a basement gives off VOCs that bother me. I know they are covered by the floor but I have found the VOCs being a gas will migrate out along the perimeter. I don't want to seal the edges with a caulk as they can become moldy over time. Do you have a recommendation for a moisture barrier that would not pose VOC/odor problems from degassing? Also how safe are the top coats acrylic and PET for the cork and wood look, respectively?
Answer: You are correct that most plastic sheeting does off-gas, however, our Moisture Blok vapor barrier does not off-gas and has no odor. That's why we love it. We have samples for you to test that can be purchased from our website. The top coat of the PET Wood Look is made from a food grade plastic used in milk bottles and the Acrylic Cork look coatings is also zero VOC and do not off-gas any hazardous chemicals. Testing is the only way you can confirm this. Check out our sustainable sample boxes.

Question: Can Nova Naturals cork floating planks be installed on stair treads and risers? If not, can any cork flooring from Green Bldg Supply be installed on treads and risers? Thx!
Answer: Yes, the Nova Naturals Floating Cork Planks or any of our cork floors, including the WaterProof cork can be glued down as tread and stair risers. You can use the Build Secure Adhesive for securing it to those surfaces. In all cases you will need some type of bullnose on the front edge. We recommend Versatrim for a color coordinated durable and reasonably priced bullnose. For WaterProof Cork, copy this link into your browser: https://versatrimorders.com/Amorim-Wi....

Question: How does this hold up to UV exposure? We have huge south facing windows.
Answer: Fading happens to almost all natural materials including cork flooring. It also affects hardwood and bamboo floors, kitchen cabinets, window panes, doors, and other building products. Excessive exposure to sunlight also affects Coretec, LVT, SPC and WPC vinyl floors.Cork will fade but it will not face crack from the suns drying effect. Hardwood is susceptible to face cracking and color change. To reduce the drastic effect of fading around area rugs we suggest to "hold off" for the first year or so. Most of the fading happens during this time.
-
Question: Can this cork be installed on stairs?
Answer: Yes, they will work as stair treads, but you will need to find or make a bullnose out of wood to cover the front edge. You can then stain without our Rubio Monocoat OIl Plus 2C stain and sealer. This flooring can also be used for the risers as well.
-
Question: Can this cork be installed in high traffic areas?
Answer: WaterProof cork has a very durable surface suitable for pets and kids. The Wood Look utilizes a special BPA-free recycled PET (water bottles) coating that has superior resistance to moisture and scratching. It is also PVC free and does not contain or emit any phthalates. It also emits zero VOCs and has almost no odor.
-

Question: How resistant is this new generation cork floor to fading from sunlight? Our current cork tile installation faded badly around area rugs after a few years of partial daily sun exposure through south and west windows resulting in a bleached-out appearance compared to the much darker covered areas. Thanks.
Answer: All natural materials will fade somewhat from UV light. That is true of hardwood, bamboo, cork, waterproof cork, linoleum, vinyl and even some tile. The only way to avoid this is to use some blinds on the windows and avoid area rugs for the first year or so - or move them around so the fading does not contrast with surrounding areas.
-
Question: Is there going to be a tile/stone look version of this flooring?
Answer: Perhaps there will be a stone look down the road, but that's very hard to predict. Right now, we have a beautiful wood look and a cork look. My guess, and it's just a guess, is that the will bring out more colors before they try a stone look.
-
Question: Is this slip proof for dogs? We currently have laminate and have been recommended luxury vinyl to reduce dogs slipping while standing and regular walking but I would prefer a less toxic solution such as cork as long as it will still help my dogs stand and walk comfortably without sliding on the floor. Thank you so much
Answer: Yes, our Wood Look WaterProof Cork has a highly slip resistant surface that is much different from laminate. I would recommend a box of samples to confirm and to help you choose colors.
-
Question: Is this flooring easily removable? I rent and will need to remove it when I leave.
Answer: The Waterproof Cork floor is a click floor, so you will click it into place for install and will also be able to unclick it to remove it when you leave.
-
Question: Is this flooring truly non-toxic? I will be installing it in a baby's room and he will be crawling in it. It says there's no ADDED lead, so does that mean there is lead in the flooring? I've also read that nano-coatings like that used in this product can abrade or otherwise leach from the surface and the particles can cause health problems. Is that a concern with this flooring? Thanks.
Answer: No lead has been added, however, there may be some naturally occurring in very small quantities. That's true of many chemicals such as formaldehyde which is in almost everything on the planet. The coating on the surface is either a UV cured acrylic on the cork look or a recycled PET on the wood look. Neither contain nanoparticles or aluminum oxides. Waterproof cork emits zero VOCs, has no biocides, isocyanates, PVC, phthalates or any hazardous air pollutants. It carries numerous green labels and has been third party certified both nationally and internationally by GreenGuard Gold, TuvPROFI Premium, Blue Angel, A+ French cert, Global GreenTagCertM. It does not get any better than this.

Question: I am interested in the Amorim Wise wood-look flooring to install in a basement. I was curious how "waterproof" it truly is, would you happen to know? Is it "waterproof" like some laminates claim to be? Or legitimately waterproof like vinyl plank?Additionally, I was not able to find any guidance regarding installing it over a concrete subfloor. Is this acceptable? Does it require any call barrier beneath it in this case? Any underlayment?
Answer: Yes, this is 100% waterproof. We have done our own testing for 5 days submerged underwater with no change in weight, length, width or thickness. The finish was perfectly intact as well.Unlike most waterproof flooring, this product has many additional benefits which are especially useful for a basement such as: warmer (better thermal resistance), quieter (better noise cancelling properties), softer (more comfort underfoot), naturally fire resistant, naturally antimicrobial and most importantly zero VOC, zero formaldehyde and no PVC. It is also is the only floor with a negative carbon footprint.WaterProof cork requires a vapor barrier (6ml poly) beneath it but no underlayment (pad) is required. The subfloor needs to be smooth and flat as possible (3/16" deflection over 8' span). While this product is new, cork has been used for flooring for more than 100 + years. We've supplied hundreds of homeowners cork flooring for basements with excellent results - without the waterproofing! Question: Hi, does heavy furniture leave indentations on cork flooring?
Answer: We recommend using felt pads on the feet of furniture to prevent scratches, but there is still a point load that can create indentations in regular cork flooring. In many cases cork has a great memory and the indentations become invisible after a few days. However, we always recommend using wooden or plastic spacers to spread the load.We recently tested our WaterProof cork flooring and it appears to be much denser and less prone to indentations. We tested a refrigerator for 24 hours and it left a very minor dent almost imperceptible. However, we still recommend using pads or spacers.

Question: what is the cost for installation per square foot?
Answer: This is a DIY type flooring that is extremely easy to install. You don't even need a saw. It can be scored with a box knife and snapped clean. If you prefer to hire a professional, the cost per square foot of installation depends on 1) where you live - big cities charge more than in small towns, 2) how much preparation work must be done - e.g. level the subfloor, 3) how much to remove your existing floor, 4) additional work e.g. thresholds, base moldings, 5) Clean up.The range would be $2-$4 per square foot. However, if you can pay by the hour it will often save money. Do the math.

Question: Is this product truly waterproof? Or is this just clever marketing speak? I have three children, all of whom loves baths and a husband who is obsessed with taking at least two showers a day, I have a wet bathroom and need some flooring but am wary of anything that says "waterproof"
Answer: Yes, 100% waterproof. We have tested this ourself for more than a week underwater and it absorbed virtually no water and did not change shape or color in any way. It will hold up fine for bathrooms and does not produce any toxic off-gassing. It is also very comfortable to walk on and cleans just like any hardwood floor.

Question: When doing a click cork floor on a concrete slab in the basement, do you need an underlayment in addition to a moisture barrier?
Answer: Wicanders as well as any other floating cork floors require a moisture barrier over concrete to prevent moisture from absorbing into the bottom of the cork. The film must be a minimum thickness of 0.2 mm or (6 mil). The MP Global Moisture Block meets these requirements and is NWFA (National Wood Flooring Association) approved. It comes in 100 SF rolls and requires no tape. Underlayment can also be used if desired. They are typically 1/8" thick and add some additional thermal and acoustical insulation. They are also softer to walk on. Our MP Global QuietWalk Plus is a vapor barrier and underlayment all in one and satisfies the above requirements as well. It has zero VOCs and is made with recycled content. We have it made specially for us without any biocides, fungicides or antimicrobials.

Question: Does amorin wood wise floor easily dent?
Answer: The Amorim Wise waterproof cork flooring is much like all cork flooring in terms of density and resilience. Normal foot traffic will not dent it. However, heavy furniture or heavy point loads can dent it which is why the manufacturer recommends using spacers to spread the load. Cork has an excellent memory so in a few hours, the dents usually disappear.

Question: The installation instructions mention (at the very end) that Nova recommends having a professional apply polish after installed. Is this necessary or what is the benefit to this?
Answer: Yes, it is necessary to follow the manufacturer's instructions. Applying a sealer or polish protects it from dirt and gives it a glow. We offer a number of oil/wax products made by AFM Safecoat and Bioshield that are non-toxic and perfect for this application. See here: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/s...

Question: How to clean nova cork ?
Answer: Glue down tiles have an oil/wax finish and require different cleaners from floating cork floors which have polyurethane finishes. Never use an alcohol based cleaner (such as Bona or Woodwise) on an oiled floor as it will strip off the finish. We offer several options for cleaning and refinishing. Our most popular are Bioshield Floor Soap, Bioshield Floor Milk and Rubio Monocoat Surface Care Spray. Our Sh-Mop is a terry-cloth/microfiber covered mop head works well for application.
