Provided your water-based paint is non-glossy you can use the Polyureseal over that for countertops. See note below. If it is a glossy paint, then you would need to rough it up a little with sandpaper so the Polyureseal has a surface it can grip onto.NOTE: While countertops are not included on the official usage for this product (made chiefly for floors), we have had customers use it for countertops with some success. It could work for you if applied and maintained correctly to your painted countertop. Beyond following the application instructions, we at Green Building Supply recommend: - 4 coats, minimum - Always use a cutting board to cut food on and trivets for hot pots (never cut directly on your countertop) - Remove water/condensation promptly from under flatware and glasses, or use coasters, placemats, etc. - Food oils or acid spills must be cleaned up quickly - Do not expect your polyuresealed coated countertop to perform like quartz or stone - For cleaning use a mild all-purpose cleaner like SafeChoice, Multi-Purpose Cleaner and Degreaser or Blissfully Clean Good luck!
