Our best product for finishing your fir floor is our non-toxic polyurethane, called AFM SafeCoat Polyureseal BP. This is one of our most popular products primarily because it has a slight odor when wet but dries quickly and has no odor after that...usually 1-2 days max depending upon humidity and ventilation, of course.
We recommend 3 coats minimum, and 4 if you have enough time and product. One gallon covers 300 SF on the first coat and 350 on each subsequent coat. So, 2 gallons should do it.
If you want a satin finish, we suggest 1 gal of gloss as the first two coats and 1 gal of satin as the final coat. While the first gallon may not be enough for two full coats, there is no harm in using it completely, then finishing with the satin. Using gloss first and then satin is for purely aesthetic reasons as 3 coats of satin will make for a slightly cloudy appearance. The benefits of resistance to abrasion and moisture will still be there whether you do all gloss or all satin or part gloss and part satin.
This is our most popular finish, which we keep in stock and can ship immediately.
