AFM SafeSeal was designed to seal the emissions of porous wood products such as plywood, Oriented Strand Board (OSB), chipboard and Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF). Three coats is what the manufacturer recommends. Laminate surfaces are non-porous and cannot be sealed by SafeSeal. VOC emissions are not capable of escaping through the surface of laminates, so it is not necessary to try and seal them on the surface. Most laminates usually encase particle board or other types of wood substrates which may have formaldehyde or other types of adhesives in them. The only way to block these emissions is to seal any of the exposed edges where there is no laminate such as: edges, sides, back, bottom of drawers and cabinet box.
