I am looking for a non-toxic sealer for a butcher block countertop that we will be using as a desk. I want to protect the desk from ink stains and accidental coffee/water spills. I read that this will dry in 24 hours, but will need to cure for 2-3 weeks. Can we use it after the 24 hours have passed, or would you recommend waiting for the 2 weeks to fully cure before using a laptop/paper and pen on it? We would recommend you do wait the full cure time before putting anything/writing directly on the desktop. If you need to use the desk before it's fully cured, have a mat or pad between your computer/writing and the desk surface. Otherwise you run the risk of imprinting into the oil wax finish before it fully sets. The Oil Wax finish is a fine choice provided your butcher block desk is raw wood or sanded down to the raw wood. It does not have much in the way of abrasion resistance, however. So based on how much you scratch, scrape and otherwise beat up the surface you may need to reapply this on a fairly regular basis. On the plus side, as it is an oil, you can do spot touch-ups fairly easily.
