It would not be our first choice for a kitchen countertop that gets a lot of use. The Oil Wax Finish is a great looking product over raw wood, particularly if you enjoy that oiled matte look, but it does not have much in the way of abrasion resistance. You would need to regularly reapply this as your countertops get scratched and scraped and stained. If you need a more abrasion resistant countertop we would recommend AFM Safecoat Polyureseal BP. While countertops are not included in the official usage for this product (Poly BP is made chiefly for floors), we have had customers use it for countertops with some success. It could work for you if applied and maintained correctly to a wood countertop. Beyond following the application instructions, we at Green Building Supply recommend: - 4 coats, minimum - Always use a cutting board to cut food on and trivets for hot pots (never cut directly on your countertop) - Remove water/condensation promptly from under flatware and glasses, or use coasters, placemats, etc. - Food oils or acid spills must be cleaned up quickly - Do not expect your polyuresealed countertop to perform like quartz or stone - For cleaning use a mild all-purpose cleaner like SafeChoice, Multi-Purpose Cleaner and Degreaser or Blissfully Clean
