Yes, it can but it would not be our first choice. That's because oiled finishes on vertical surfaces are typically exposed to heat and moisture (toaster ovens, InstaPots, coffee makers), acids, dirty fingers, etc. and will stain more easily and will be harder to clean than a topical sealer. Oils work better on furniture or flooring as it does not have the same type or amount of exposure and it can be buffed out more easily.We recommend AFM Acrylacq which is non-toxic lacquer substitute. It comes in clear or Ecolacq which is a tintable version (so any paint color). 3-4 coats will provide a very hard durable long lasting coating that is moisture and abrasion resistant. It can be sprayed or brushed, ideally with the doors and drawer fronts laying horizontal.
