It is a penetrating oil, so how often you need to refinish using this product depends on how dry you allow your floor to get. You can spot test areas. Obviously, if the penetrating oil won't or can't penetrate into the floor then it's not yet time yet to refinish/refresh.If you are asking about whether you can apply a completely different finish over your oiled floor in a year... Not really. If you decide to oil your floor now, it means you plan on oiling it in the future. The only alternative that would allow you an even finish would be to sand down to the raw wood again, and after doing that you could choose to re-finish with a water-based product instead. (Water and Oil do not mix).
