It depends on what the "smell" is coming from. We sell products that are formulated to seal in chemical off-gassing and work very well at that. What is trickier is sealing in organic odors like perfume, smoke, pet urine, etc. If you are just working to seal in chemical off-gassing, our top recommendation is AFM SafeCoat Transitional Primer followed by a couple coats of AFM SafeCoat Zero VOC Paint. These two products work together to seal in chemical off-gassing... if the polyurethane that is coating the bed has a glossy finish, you will need to lightly sand that first in order to get a good bond. If the bed has an organic odor to it, then you will need to go full chemical with shellac. A shellac will bring its own off-gassing to contend with but will do wonders at sealing in non-chemical odors if that is what you need. Once the shellac is dry, you can go over that with our AFM SafeCoat Transitional Primer and Zero VOC Paint. We do not sell shellac, but this can be found in most hardware stores, look for Zinsser B-I-N Shellac.
