AFM HardSeal was designed to block emissions of VOCs on hard surfaces that are water-based only. Applications over oil-based stains or conditions may not adhere properly. Also, it will not hold up to hot pots. For that a trivet should be used over any finish. We have no products that can be applied over an existing oil finish. Our only suggestion is to sand off the finish and apply a safer product such as our AFM Durotone Stain combined with three coats of AFM Polyureseal BP as a topcoat. This will provide a durable long lasting finish that is safer. We also offer a number of food grade oil finishes such as AFM Naturals Clear Penetrating Oil or Bioshield Herbal Oil.
