We recently had a live edge walnut table made for us and the builder finished it with Watco Danish Oil. We have three small children and don't feel the finish is hardy enough for us and we want something that is safe for our kids to eat off of and will be water repellant. There are a couple knots in the wood and small gaps in the board seams that need to be filled as well to prevent crumbs and liquid from entering - will I be able to use this product for this purpose as well or do you have another one you might recommend?

Yes, AFM Naturals Oil Wax is non-toxic choice for countertops as it will provide good water resistance if applied properly. However, the AFM Naturals Penetrating Oil is a better choice as it is made with organic oils and is food grade. It contains no solvents or hazardous air pollutants. For additional moisture protection apply, once the oil has cured in about a week, add our Bioshield Floor and Furniture Hardwax.According to their Safety Data Sheet, Watkins Danish oil is full of toxic solvents and it's not surprising that you would like something safer for your family. Unfortunately, applying our product over theirs may not cover up the emissions. The best way to remove the odor is to sand it off. That will take some effort but it will be worth it.
