It sounds like something in the Kilz Primer awoke a semi-dormant chemical reaction. We'd suggest a multi-step process to get ahead of whatever is going on here. The keyword here is encapsulation. Following the Kilz primer directions, the first step is to make sure the primer dries completely. Increasing airflow (fans) and dehumidifying the air (dehumidifier) will help this move along quicker. It is CRITICAL that the Kilz is dry before you add more chemicals to the situation. Next, to encapsulate/seal-in this musty organic odor, we recommend you go full chemical. Zinsser BIN Shellac. This will cover most problem organic-based smells, but the Zinsser will off-gas on its own, producing chemical smells. Again, follow the directions and let completely dry before moving on to the next step. Next, to encapsulate the off-gassing chemical smells of the Zinsser, we recommend the 1-2 punch of AFM Safecoat Transitional Primer followed up with a couple of coats of AFM Safecoat Zero VOC Paint. These products are formulated to encapsulate chemical off-gassing. (unfortunately, these will not work to encapsulate organic-based smells, and Hard Seal would fall under this category as well, which is why you need to sandwich in the Zinsser Shellac). It's a lot, but this should help you. We do not sell Zinsser BIN Shellac, but this is available via most big box and hardware stores.
