While additional coats of polyurethane can be added, it is typically not required for many years until the surface finish has been heavily worn. That could be 5-10 years or more depending upon the type and amount of traffic and how well the floor has been maintained. Please note: once a finish is added, the manufacturers finish warranty is no longer valid. Should you wish to use this at a later date, we recommend our Vermont Natural Coatings PolyWhey Floor Finish or our AFM 2K Pro Finish Urethane. In the old days, additional coats were applied in order to seal the tiny gaps between the planks and avoid water soaking through them. However, Amorim's waterproof cork floors click together very tight and it's very difficult for water to get through. However, if you have potential water issues with kids, dogs, overflowing tubs and toilets, we suggest using our Taylor Resolute adhesive underneath the planks instead. That is a better way of preventing moisture from soaking beneath the planks and damaging your subfloor.
