Amorim has created two types of coatings for their waterproof cork flooring; High Resistant Technology (HRT) which is used only over the Cork Look and Superior Resistant Technology (SRT) used over the the Wood Look. The HRT is identical to the coating used over regular Wicanders cork flooring. It is multiple coats of UV cured acrylic/urethane. The SRT coating is made of PET which is a food safe polyurethane used in milk containers. There are no isocyanates, no VOCs and no formaldehyde emissions. It is a more scratch resistant surface, however, it is not repairable like the HRT. The manufacturer recommends replacing the planks in the even of serious damages which is quite easy to handle.Aside from the coatings and the appearance, both the Wood Look and Cork Look products are identical from the bottom up to the surface. They both have a waterproof core made with High Density Polyethylene (HDPE). Again, food safe with no emissions or hazardous chemicals and completely inert. It will not absorb moisture at all. Because of this, no additional coats are needed to prevent moisture from getting in between the planks. The click mechanism is so tight, liquids will have a very difficult time soaking in. This is unlike the regular cork flooring which has a high density fiberboard core that is not very moisture resistant and subject to expansion should there be moisture intrusion between the planks.Adhesive can be used beneath the planks but not in-between them because the adhesive will spread the two adjoining pieces further apart making it easier for moisture to soak in.
