The only truly food safe product would be a plant based oil like AFM SafeCoat, Naturals Clear Penetrating Oil, but that is meant to be used directly on raw wood and won't stick to any other product like paint. It is also not recommended to paint a cutting board. We do have people use AFM SafeCoat, Acrylacq on painted cabinets. It is non toxic. But it is not meant to be cut upon.
