Hello, I am looking for a product to waterproof a birch 1 3/4" thick butcher block countertop in our bathroom, what would you recommend? Since the countertop is for a vanity, it will see plenty of water and I would like a non-toxic finish that can resist water. The countertop will not be stained or sealed unless that is recommended. We have an infant on the way and want to use a non-toxic product but don't necessarily need it to be food safe. Thank you for your help!

We can get you water resistant with AFM Safecoat Polyureseal BP, which gives you a degree of abrasion resistance as well and will help seal in formaldehyde if that is a concern. This is a topical finish which will coat the wood. Another option would be the AFM Safecoat Oil Wax Finish (we would not recommend the Clear Penetrating Oil for this application). We have samples available so you can test and find the best match for your project.Neither of these is a waterproofer, but these will give your bathroom counter a degree of water resistance.
