Silacote paint is made for coating concrete, stucco, brick and any cementitious surface that is clean, dry porous that has not been previously painted or sealed. Raw, unprimed HardiBoard certainly qualifies. Silacote creates a radiant heat barrier that reflects infrared heat from penetrating into your home. How much does it reduce the IR heat depends on many variables such as angle of the sun, thickness of the coating, etc. but in general appx. 95%. Bear in mind this blocks InfraRed heat spectrum only. Yes, this is similar to other paints that create radiant heat barriers. The difference is that this paint is made only for these types of surfaces and not for wood, metal or vinyl etc. If applied properly to the manufacturers specs, it will last many decades without maintenance. It is breathable and will also inhibit the growth of mold and mildew and is highly fire resistant. And it is completely non-toxic and zero VOC. Top that!Another option is our Radiosity 3000 which is a paint additive the creates a radiant heat barrier when added to any normal exterior semi-gloss paint.
