This is a penetrating oil product, so provided you are putting this oil over raw wood that has not been treated/painted before then it should be okay. Otherwise you will need to sand off any previous coatings first before application. A few caveats 1. While this is non toxic to humans, and a mix of natural and organic oils, it has not been tested on ecosystems or animals so we could not say with certainty that marine life would not be affected, as it might. 2. This is a clear product, and as such will not hold up well to constant UV rays if your dock gets a lot of sun. You will need to reapply periodically to maintain a good finish. If you want something that will last longer between maintenance, you will want a stain with some pigment to it. We recommend Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Exterior Wood Protector or PolyWhey Exterior Penetrating Stain from Vermont Natural Coatings. If you want something that would last even longer, use paint. 3. None of these are "Marine" grade coatings (we do not sell those) so based on how much abuse your dock takes from water and sediment that could also affect the timespan to how long these products last before maintenance coats are needed.
