If that clear coat was a water-based finish, then yes, that is exactly what this product was made for. If the previous finish was glossy or semi-glossy, then some prep work is involved, you will need to lightly sand/degloss that previous layer to create a surface that the Acrylacq will be able to grip onto and bond with. As with anything, it's best to follow the application instructions carefully (this is included in the downloads section on the product detail page, direct link below for your convenience).We always recommend you get a sample first and test the product on an inconspicuous area to make sure you can achieve a good bond and love the look before committing to the entire project.
