None of the products we sell are food-grade outside of plant-based oils such as those used in AFM SafeCoat, Naturals Clear Penetrating Oil. But that product must be applied directly to raw wood so will not work in your case unless you sand it down to a raw wood surface. A non-toxic product people often use on tables/furniture is AFM SafeCoat, Acrylacq. It is best to go online and order a small sample of it first to test on your finish as you are not aware of what the original finish is made of. Trying the sample on it first will let you know if it will adhere well or not. Also know that, if what's currently on there is wiping off when you wipe it down, water-based Acrylacq may not work/adhere at all. When you apply something on top of another finish that already comes off, the new finish on top may come off right along with it. Again, testing is the only way to know for sure.
