Is this the best product to prevent cracking on Bamboo poles? I purchased Vermont Natural Coatings, Exterior, Penetrating Waterproofer and applied to Bamboo poles. I sealed outside and inside of Bamboo poles. but it did not prevent cracking after I put water inside the Bamboo pole. Thus, I'm looking for a product:1) Strong waterproof sealing that prevents Bamboo poles to absorb water.2) Prevents cracking on Bamboo poles. I would be appreciated if you give me the answer. This is clearly a unique application and one that will require some experimentation. Our best waterproofing sealer is AFM Dynoseal which is a below grade waterproofing membrane that is used for foundation walls, raised garden beds, roofing, etc. However, it does not hold up to UV and must be covered. It could be used inside the bamboo. However, it would not look good on the outside of the bamboo as it is a dark bronze color. It could be painted with an exterior paint to block the UV.Regarding cracking: this is due to the natural process of bamboo drying out. Most all bamboo poles that we've seen are cracked. Controlling cracking requires control of temperature and humidity. It may not be possible to guarantee that this will not crack as it depends on many environmental factors outside of your control. Neither the AFM Naturals Oil nor the Vermont Natural Coatings products would be recommended for this type of application.
